Thank you! Not an easy topic to cover in a short period of time. Thank you for making this so clear and concise! Very much appreciated and I'll be sure to share some of these videos with students. I think this would be so useful for them to understand as well. Very much appreciated!!!

Jason, I have a student who is probably in her 70's. She's in great shape and has been weight training and practicing yoga for years. When she practices forward folds her right hamstring makes a noise. She says it doesn't hurt but it feels like it is going to pop. Her doctor can't figure it out. I am not a doctor so we tend to soften the knees whenever we stretch the hamstring. Have you ever experienced this before with a client?

Thank you for your clarity. You confirmed what I have been feeling and experiencing in my yoga practice AND teaching. Lately, passive stretching has been demonized as so impractical! But the deep relaxation you experience in a practice like, for example, Yin yoga is profound. Of course, given that you don’t use Yin yoga as a way to try and deepen the stretch but more as a practice for deep release, softening, and letting go. 🙏🏾

Please clarify something for me. Does engaging your muscles while they are in the passive mode, over time, increase their active range of motion?
@JasonCrandellYoga2 жыл бұрын
Good question, Ute. I want to be careful with what a promise here. So, instead of saying "yes," I'm going to say, "likely." Here goes: it is likely that converting passive range of motion to end-range strength will 1) create greater strength at your end-range, and 2) increase your active range of motion. I say likely, because, well, an honest person will tell you that your intensity and frequency over time also need to be considered.

Jason, for somebody with a very cranky hamstring, will end range eccentric stretching best to help to improve hamstring flexibility?
