Solo prax at home, but I still love to follow a Led P on Sundays. Thanks for the cadence and for the little nuggets of instruction here and there. And yes, the birds were such a lovely way to "stay present" (to the recorded sounds from half a world away- irony not lost, but still). Thank you!

Loved this full primary, nice pace and mostly the basic instructions. Appreciating that there are 3 holds in the first pashimattanasana (3x 5 breaths, which I'm used to), 5 counts/breaths before lift up to sarvangasana and 10 breaths in balasana. These details along with the calm instructions made this led class an extra pleasant experience. I wasn't familiar with this instructor before, so I'm glad I gave this video a chance. Looking forward to coming back to this video again. Thanks for recording this and sharing!

I loved that 5 count before sarvangasana. First time for me, and it was super grounding and re-orienting after backbending, folding, etc.

I am confused. Is this an expert level class or some sort of expert level retreat in Goa, India? I did not understand a single thing the instructor said. Shouldn’t the instructor perform the movements and provide step-by-step, detailed instructions? How in the world would a beginner ever learn this stuff? Somebody please help me.
@AmiBlueyoga4 жыл бұрын
This is a Mysore Ashtanga class being taught in a Led format. Typically, students work in a semi-private setting 5 days a week and then once weekly (or so) the teacher brings everyone together just to remind them of the cadence and the count, to build community, to let them hear the pose names and the Sanskrit numbers.... but this is NOT the way a student learns this routine. the real work is in the day to day, working one-on-one with a teacher. This is just a bringing-together of students to synchronize breath and instruct the count of each sequence.

Dear Joey Miles, I watched your primary led series in ashtanga yoga today and I am very impressed with your teaching. Please may I know if you give certification for passing this primary series and how long it would take a student to be proficient in this series?
@dontask49905 жыл бұрын
Most people doing primary series 5-6 days a week would move on from the primary series within 3 years and some people take longer than 3 years. But not everyone has the ability or time to commit to the practice in that way. I know some student in my class still do primary series after 10 years.

It interesting to see an image of respect depicted of Mr. Pattabhi Jois on the wall but no image Mr. BKS Iyengar because I surely see evidence of his influence being incorporated into this led class with the use of blocks, blankets etc. 20:37
@charlottequinney40776 жыл бұрын
The influence of iyengar is coming with this particular teacher. Purple valley teaches in line with patthabi jois and there are several teachers there who learned directly from him. Joey miles did not and in his interviews says he has inherited ideas from both in favour of neither. Maybe at his own school he has both pictures! 😀

Haha. But I love it! And he still kept it under 90m!? #pro
@dontask49903 жыл бұрын
@@jolebug6398 I meant " When you are a beginner, you will have no choice. You need to do 5 Suryanamaskara A and 5 Suryanamaskara B, BECAUSE YOU HAVE FEW YOGA POSES", until you reach more than half the series. The problem is that it is a retreat and Joey is not the regular teacher. Teaching unknown students on different learning levels can be difficult. It is better to give the students 5 Suryanamaskara A and 5 Suryanamaskara B. Back in the day, people used to do 8 Suryanamaskara A and 8 Suryanamaskara B, and everything was at eight, not five. That is why the limbs of yoga is 8 and not 5. Unfortunately, the series has been greatly shortened over the years. To be fair, if you can't hold 5 Suryanamaskara A and 5 Suryanamaskara B, you don't have enough physical fitness to cope with the whole series. Doing five Suryanamaskara A and five Suryanamaskara B is nothing.
