This historical video shows my playing with the first planetary gong set ever for a Yogi Bhajan (founder of the 3HO Kundalini movement) in Hamburg 1990 and: him "acting" on the gongs as well.
Have a look and make up your own mind.
For me personally, it has been kind of trauma shock and I started to research why people are playing things they way they do it. I came to quite some solutions which I share in my integral gong playing classes around the world.

Brings back memories of Harijiwan's gong "sound baths" in which I spent an hour laying on the ground completely unable to relax and convinced that was because something was wrong with me.

The most important video document for the gong community. You can hear and see clearly how important it is to play in a soft manner. What Bhajan explains at the end, that the gongs help to relax our minds and hearing how brutal he plays the gongs, it becomes obvious that there is no relaxation possible. I've collected emails from victims of this loud sessions and just yesterday I received a report from England from a woman, who got a serious headache after such a gong session, which was performed by a Kundalini gong master. The SOFT MANNER is the way to go. If it feels stressful, it is stressful for your mind and body and there is nothing good on it. Crescendos (loud amplitudes) can be useful to help the receivers to focus, but only for a very short period, like 10 or maximum 20 seconds. A full session with crescendo playing (white or pink noise) is harmful to the holistic wellbeing and does no good at all.

I Agree, from my own experiences with light work, body work & Reiki. Space between tone sounds as they are gently played is also important as it allows each sound to expand, fully develop and become expressed for healing🌟

Completely agree as well. Watching Jens perform shows his consideration when crescendoing with the entire gong array on stage. His technique and command over the dynamic nature of each particular gong and blending them symbiotically was beautifully demonstrated. The Yogi’s demonstration was pure over-the-top decibel damaging noise-making imo. Perhaps a shock to the system to keep his followers in a state of traumatized obedience? 🤔

Whoa - the Yogi's playing got very 'energetic'. I would never do anything like that in my presentations, as I am attempting to 'cultivate tranquillity'. It is a shame the recording was not of a quality to reveal the subtlety of Jens' playing.

I could not stop laughing watching the Yogi having his personal encounter with the gongs. I watched children playing the gongs the same way ful of joy while the adults had to leave the rooms because they could not bear the sound

In my 40 years of playing and teaching gongs I have seen innumerable numbers of kids playing gongs, and nothing was close to that; and if it would happen then the parents would be kindly asked to stop the children, as this way of mistreating a gong can easily damage the sensitive surface of the expensive instrument. Yes, I am sure there are people like you who will not stop laughing when the innocent joyful Yogi is raping other people's properties. Yes, so nice cute yogi guy.

@@JensZygar Aaaaah I struggled to watch the the part when the guru BEAT the gongs, I had to scroll. Did you ask him prior to his blacksmith technique on your poor gongs to tap them gently Jens? You maintained a normal expression after his go. Aaaah, a bit funny, a lot shocking. I know you must have examined the gongs when you got back home. The guru wasn't paying attention when you were tonal painting.

What is hé doing 12:00. That painful to watch and hear with just a headset! Dont tell me he his a gongmaster! I have 28 HSB ( Singing bowls) i cant imagine playing in front of people like that who come for some kinda of meditative state to bring themself centerd and maybe find some kind of therapy or healing. The gongs and bowls can brings your consciousness to state of Thêta wave where healing can takes place. Hats off to Jens Zygar, even 30 years ago he was a master!

the value of Bhajan's approach to the gong is of use ONLY AFTER a strong yoga set! ABSOLUTELY NOT BEFORE! The human psyche (or any kind of psyche) will not be able to handle this kind of intensity without doing the strong Yoga first! All that said I would not 'whack' any gong quite as hard as he is playing, but there are times when those in attendance really want the amplitude and "rough play" for up to a minute
@JensZygar
@JensZygar Жыл бұрын
Playing gong sounds on a high amplitude is not the issue; the issue is not understanding the physics of a vibrating membrane; the louder it gets, the more important it is to target the correct spot on the instrument, unless, you don´t care; which is always an option, particular as we claim to live in a sphere of free will.

@@dasgongbad197 sorry I am not sure if I understand your question; all I can remember that I was shocked; the reason why I didn't stop him was that I thought I don't want him to lose his face in front of his many students; and later on, I spent many many thoughts analyzing the situation (maybe I was wrong not liking to? ;-) but after many years of reflections, as well, there are quite a few kundalini gong freaks out there following this kind of heavy gonging, I have a clear opinion on all of that.

It's disgusting. The gong player in me finds this kind of show to be damaging and so many levels. Stimulation is not the same thing as intensity. Gong playing is not the same thing as showmanship. A transmission of awakening through the gongs does not require excessive volume and nor does the 'clearing of stuck energies.' The lack of respect for Jens here is remarkable. The lack of humility. It's disappointing to witness.

This is obviously horrible gong playing on YB's part, but this is not a representation of what he actually offered. He played gongs in all different ways, at all different frequencies and levels for different effects. I agree with the person who shared that strong gong playing is a tool to have massive subconscious breakthroughs - I've experienced this myself many times. Of course, you have to be ready for it with a precursor of kundalini yoga and softer playing in the beginning - and that concoction can radically change your mind, body and life for the better. To see this one demonstration and criticize someone's entire approach who doesn't play them musically and has a completely different approach to them as tools is limited. That said, this was clearly bad.
