Here is my review of the update to the Yonex VCORE SV 98, the VCORE 98. A crisp, powerful and spin-friendly racquet. Easy to use, relatively comfortable, but not a fantastic feel on contact.

How can you say that the VCORE 98 feels crisp? It has an RA rating of 65. That's actually pretty low. I bet i read about 20 different reviews on this frame and I think you're the only person that said it felt crisp. Everyone else says how comfortable it is. Do you have arm issues?

Thanks for the reviews!!! I would like to know which racquet you prefer between the Vcore 98 and the Ezone 98. Which one would recommend?

Great video as usual! Currently I am using a vcore pro 97 310 and sometimes I feel the racket is a litte demanding. Is the vcore 98 305 easier to play? What is the minimum suitable ntrp?
@Tennisnerd
@Tennisnerd 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Guillermo! Yeah, the VCORE will be a little easier for power and forgiveness. Or why not try the 100 sq inch version so you have a little more real estate from the string bed and some more power. Hard to say minimum suitable NTRP, I think a 100 sq inch, 300-gram racquet could work for beginners to pros (with some customization).

Why didn't you like it on spin? What is your opinion as to why Wilson left the vicinity where the Yonex is made in Taiwan? Good review.

I bought this racquet and havebeen trying it out over the last couple of days. I quite like it so far (very easy to play with, very open pattern, lots of easy spin etc), but wish it had a fraction more stability / solidity. At 0:01 you seemed to have experimented with lead tape - did you prefer it with or without the lead tape and how much did you add roughly?
@gazoller
@gazoller 4 жыл бұрын
I added a bit of lead tape at the 10 and 2 positions of my vCore 98 and it helped with stability and plow-through... I like it better now.

Hey Tennisnerd, love your video's. I play with a pure earo 300 gr. If i want a the same racket with a little bit less power, would the vcore98 be a good option? Greets!

Nice review. Do you know what the feel on contact is like compared to the Tour G construction?
@Tennisnerd

Thanks. The Tour G feels a bit more solid and less hollow I would say. It is more similar to the VCORE Pro racquets, but I actually prefer the Tour G in a way.

@@Tennisnerd I must be showing my age but alot of 310g racquets don't feel solid to me. The Pro 97 felt flimsy in the upper hoop. Never understood why they mix thin beams with low weight...
@Tennisnerd
@Tennisnerd 6 жыл бұрын
Google Reviewer Yes, I agree. You need some lead tape in the hoop. A racquet needs to be at least 320-325 unstung for it to be ”solid”. There is the 330 version of the Tour G however...

Good review, but I'd argue the point about the contact feel being not that great. I've tried playing with this racquet with hybrid gut/synthetic string, polyester, and then a good quality synthetic gut, and each string type gives vastly different feel on contact. The frame doesn't seem to like the monofilament polyester, but synthetic gut or hybrid gut/polyester (gut mains) is very crisp and provides a huge amount of spin. That's just my own personal opinion - which is not even worth 5cents! lol!

If you have already played with it, but not posted a review yet, could you tell me how it felt? Keep the reviews coming bro, awesome channel! Salaute, from Brazil.

Thanks! Yes, Karl has some nice technique on both wings! I can do a review of it, as I have played with it a bit. It is not my favorite racquet in the world to be honest, the string bed feels a bit unpredictable. And it is not really arm-friendly, although not as bad as some racquets. I will see if I can get a review done in an near future, but in short: not a racquet I really recommend. Salute, from Malta.

I bought the new Vcore 95, sold it after hitting with it for a few minutes. Very dull feeling, nothing like a 95D. Also has a strange flex, not an even flex like the Vcore Tour, Duel and Pro -- which has that nice graphite feel. The SV95 is closest to the 95D. BTW, a full bed of Poly Tour Strike is like ice, very slippery, round, best used in a hybrid. I think a full bed of PTP grabs the ball better for a smooth poly.

Luke Christo I normally string Black Code 4S 17 at 52 lbs. and I would try a thicker gauge and higher tension with the 95. It is still too lively with the 1.25mm string.

Great video. I have always played with Pure Drive but recently I have started thinking to change my racket. I like pure drive, I like its power, but sometime I don't feel the ball well, I don't have control, expecially when I go to the net. I am thinking about buying a racket with more control but still powerful. I was thinking about Pure Strike 98 16x19, Ezone 98 and Vcore 98. Which of these do you advise me? I am a biseliner but sometime I like to vary doing drop shots and going to the net. I use a lot of topspin.

Hi tennisnerd you mention the DR98 in the video as a comparison but there is no review of the racquet itself :) was wondering your thoughts on the DR98? How does it feel compared to some of the Head Pro Stocks? Thanks!
@Tennisnerd
@Tennisnerd 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Andre, yes I only made a written review of the DR 98 as it was before I started doing this "KZbin thing" :) It is a great all-round racquet. Good spin, decent comfort, and I enjoy the control and feel too. I prefer a lower launch angle and more bite on the slice personally, but a lot of players are very happy with the DR 98. There are many variations of HEAD Pro stocks so you would have to be a bit more specific than that. HEAD is mostly famous for their control so my guess is that they would offer a bit better control than the DR 98, but probably less power depending on which pro stock you mean.

@@Tennisnerd appreciate the quick reply! Congrats on getting so big on KZbin so fast! Not sure if this is the right area, feel free to redirect if you want. Was checking out your Vcore reviews because i love a classic feeling control (Prestige Mid!!) But own a bunch of sticks.. seeing if the VCore would fit the bill but seems it may not. Therefore thinking of going back to a more forgiveable leaded DR98 or a Blade or if maybe pick up a 93P. Forever on the hunt. :)

The Pure Strike/Project One Seven feels a bit crisper than the VCORE 98, but the response from the string bed is more controlled and the launch angle slightly lower. The VCORE is livelier with a higher launch angle and slightly more powerful.

Im looking for a powerfull racket that doesn’t have that terrible touch and is nice for volleys too. The touch part is what I love about prestige’s just not the fact you need to work so hard to generate power and pace. Any suggestions?
@Tennisnerd
@Tennisnerd 6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you are looking for the elusive combo of touch and power that pretty much everyone is looking for :) I did like the touch and power combo of the HEAD Graphene 360 Speed Pro (worth a demo), I also think the Angell K7 has a good power/touch combo if you add some lead tape to it. The Blade 98 2015 18x20 is also a good choice here. Many people, some of them pro players, swear by the Yonex DR 98. I also found good mix of positive features in the Prince Beast 98.
