I modified my compressor to fit a bearing on the crankshaft and modified the piston arm to fit and it works so much better now. Runs way cooler too

I need to remove the crank case from the motor. It is like the only thing that you did not film. Mine is stuck on good. I have removed the 4 long screws is that All I have to do?

hi Sambo. I have just ordered one of these and your videos have been very helpful . have thought about machining the end of the crank to fit a bearing on the big end? also, do you think it would be worth making a support of some sort for the outboard end of the crank. there seems to be plenty of room in the crank case for such a fitting . to me an ally con rod running on a cast iron crank with no bearing is not a good recipe .

It actually does make sense. The idea is that the softer aluminium wears instead of the crank. Same principle with the relatively soft carbon piston rings, so the cheapest easy to replace parts wear instead of the cylinders, especially the high pressure aluminium cylinder. The trouble with bearings spinning at those speeds, and thrashing around in that much oil, is that the bearings can skid, and actually end up wearing faster. The entire cylinder, piston and crank kit is only about $45 on AliExpress, and given that there's people out there that have had them for two years, and used a few times per week, without needing a rebuild, you really don't need anything more complicated or expensive. They are so cheap to rebuild, and so simple, I don't think you can go wrong really.

stuart surkitt Hi Stuart, I think Bear has hit the nail on the head, every small lawn mower engine I’ve ever had apart in the last 35 odd years has had this set up, and as long as you keep good clean oil in it, at the right level, and keep the cooling fins clear it will run pretty much forever!

That second stage... those rings look like some sort of plastic. Nylon perhaps. The plastics really soften and deform with heat. I think the water cooling is very important for these lower-cost imported compressors. You could also bypass the water pump and use an adapter on your water faucet, the water outlet to the drain. This second stage is the high pressure; it should have had a few rows of stacked steel/ cast rings, with pairs sharing the same groove. The plastic will have a shorter life.

Rick Halverson I believe they are semi-metal rings, probably bronze particles bonded with some sort of carbon fibre ( think I read this somewhere) I have thought about machining some cast iron rings, but it might be impossible to get them on without breaking them, but all the time it’s pumping air I will leave it well alone ;0)

I read that they were carbon rings. The trouble with cast rings will be that being harder they will wear the cylinders faster, especially the high pressure aluminium cylinder. So much cheaper to have the rings wear, and just replace rings more frequently than cylinders. Same principle with aluminium con rod on what's probably a drop forged crank. Think the complete cylinder, piston and con rod kit is only about $45 on AliExpress. Cheap as chips, you can't go wrong really.

good video but why leave out the hard part ( disassembling the head with valves ) ?

hi i have like this put i have problem i see water cooling coming to cylinder where you think this leak ? i open may cylinder i found rust inside

O rings or gasket on the second stage that bolts on to the piston cylinder head
