Hello everyone, in today's case we will be discussing one of the largest search and rescue efforts in the history of Yosemite National Park. I'm presenting this Video because I'm hoping that we can honor Jeannie by learning from this tragedy and helping to prevent future tragedies like this. This is every families worst nightmare, and I'm hoping by making these videos, together we can help prevent more cases like this 🙏🙏
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the family and friends and everyone who put so much work into finding Jeannie 🙏 🙏 My thoughts and prayers go out to Mike who lost the love of his life🙏🙏 I pray all of you have been able to find peace 🙏 For those that might see this video, please know my intention is not to bring up past hurt, it's to help other's. I spend between 3 to 4 months a year out on searches or investigating cases to help families find closure, and to help prevent future tragedies. I wish I could do more, and I will continue to strive to do as much as I can to help.

As a boy at scout camp back in the 70’s i was hiking from Devil’s Postpile back to our summer camp. I was slower and often hiking alone on the return trip. I didn’t have supplies and was thirsty. I heard the rustling leaves and thought it was flowing water. As i started to walk off trail a voice yelled where you going! It was my scout leader who was staying just behind for stragglers(me) Thank God for Mr Levitt!! We hiked the rest of the trip together. I was lucky and had a great safe troop and leaders!

Because of you and a few other creators that I watch, I will be much safer now. I will let people know my destination and return time. I will have a whistle, compass, map and the knowledge to use them. I will have a way to keep dry, to start a fire, to protect my family and the smarts to listen to my intuition. Yes, those are important details for sure, however, you have completely failed to comprehend what is going on inside these wilderness areas, you have failed to realise that there are thousands of missing hunters globally, these hunters being very experienced woodsmen who had, maps, compass's, rifles, first aid equipment, food camping equipment cell phone, even satellite phone carried by some, even GPS and beacons, appropriate clothing. What we can derive from these missing people can ONLY BE that there are non-human identies, visiting and or living within wilderness areas, these beings are more than capable of killing humans despite any human technologies, also despite the most intensive autopsies, no cause of death can even be detected. Take note that humanity knows a vast amount of information, however, there are many thousands times more that we DONT KNOW.

Since I’m introverted I hike alone. I hike with a Garmin inReach mini satellite sos communicator since I hike alone. I carry a sidearm as well for serial killers who are interested in people who hike alone😊

Step one is to find a tracker! Every time I’ve ever seen one work I’m freaking in awe and amazed! Literally should always be the first person called in these scenarios.

I noticed the rocks next to the steams deceivingly appeared safe to walk on. The slightest moisture and the surface would go from having traction to slick as ice. Once in a stream you experience the shock of the cold water and your clothes and pack weigh you down. Not having experience enough to read the terrain or recognize sounds makes getting out futile. Yosemite is no paradise even though it looks like it. We need to use our gear, practice over landing navigation and outdoor living to get comfortable enough to function productively in nature. Thanks for the great response ! So many think that Yosemite is a naturalized Disneyland it is wild place, deservedly so. Few take the time to learn how to be safe in a natural environment, wander off alone then we hear these sob stories about the inadequacy of S&R, the National Park Service, USFS , law enforcement. See you on the trails, we are the ones who look like we are hiking for days, when we are out enjoying nature.

Good advice but I say don't go hiking. Especially never even in twos. Only in a bigger group perhaps. There are snipers and sadists in these places. You are right about all the natural dangers too.

Being caught in the wilderness during a moonless night is really scary. It is pitch black and a person can easily fall and get hurt. I took my kids out camping in the High Sierras, and walked them out of camp site on a moonless night to look at the stars, after walking out about 300 yards, turned off the flash light to show them how dark it can get.

Yosemite is my favorite National Park. Listening to the story I am amazed at how people are lulled into a false sense of security not realizing that a few feet off the road or trail it is pure 100% wilderness. If someone knows you are there the best thing to do if you are lost is to stop and stay put, wait for rescue. Thanks Bryan for your attention to the topic of safety in the parks and wilderness.

I'm often astonished by people saying "but they searched there, how could they not have found them?" I'm sure some envision a search as being a line of people walking across open terrain in perfect conditions without understanding just how difficult it can be to move through bushland with no trail to follow. Kudos to all who do that job, it must be heart breaking when a search is unsuccessful.

I have a picture on my nightstand that my mom took of me on my 1st trip to Yosemite when I was 16 :) I remember it being so vast and thinking a person could definitely get lost in just a few minutes. Now, almost 40 years and lots of hikes later, I know how important it is to stay on maintained trails, preferably with someone. Your advice to stay put once you realize you’re lost is very wise! Don't forget to learn good outdoor skills before you visit, Yosemite is vast, amazing especially the "High county" and easy to get lost in. We have hiked for decades there.

I have two adult boys and a husband who love to hike and I'm constantly telling them not to go hiking alone and also not to split up when hiking with others. My husband travels and will go hiking alone at times despite what I keep telling him. Ugh! I am seriously looking at beacons for my husband and boys although they are so costly. It's because of all of these stories. Thank you so much for your caring and for your tips. I feel so sorry for these people's loved ones and also for what these people must go through themselves who get lost.

I think carrying a Garmin is very important and I never go out without one. I like the Garmin inReach because not only can you text anyone from anywhere but it has a SOS feature.

I bought a beacon for my son. My son thinks I am nuts for spending money on this but he hikes and skis and knows that this is a “ nonnegotiable “ point for me. I don’t ask much. On this I insist. That surprised everyone and I wasn’t popular. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Too bad.

The first mistake was deciding to separate even for 10 minutes. Second mistake was continuing to walk after she knew she was probably lost. And no whistle or compass was the third mistake.

Jeanne must of been disorientated from dehydrated her anxiety must of been off the scale,frightened and alone 😔Maybe a loud whistle worn around the neck could make all the difference especially when you've not been separated for that long.The National Parks are so beautiful I'm guessing it would be easy not to concentrate on where you are walking taking in stunning scenery that surrounds you.God Bless Jeanne🙏

How horrible. At the very least, having a good quality new lighter in your pocket would be helpful. Learn how to build a fire. With care, even in the driest of conditions, a fire could be built. You'll be warm, and have a signal sent up to help people find you.

We don't live in a National Park nor near one , but where we live we have bears, coyotes, mountain lions, raccoons, and paved streets! It is rural and we like it, we hope to visit England one day, there are beautiful spots there too.

A few years ago my son & I did the route up to Glacier Point from the Valley floor, across from Glacier down to Illiloiette Falls, up to Nevada Fall, down to Vernal Fall, and back down to the Valley floor via the John Muir Trail. It’s rugged terrain, and pretty exposed in spots, so I can’t imagine being lost and alone in that area, with no idea of where you are and no way to get your bearings. I know that part ofYosemite quite well, and even so, we lost the trail at one point and I was really scared, although I tried not to let my son know. I can’t imagine how terrified Jeanne would have been ~ her last hours must have been awful 😢

ive been lost in Yosemite on the Clouds Rest trail on a spring day after a heavy winter season so there was alot of slushy snow on the ground making it confusing and covering the trail. I was on the way back and got lost about 1.5-2 miles away from the trailhead. I didnt panic and kept going toward where the red ping was showing on my unconnected google maps, luckily found the trail and made it back before dusk. some other friends a year before got lost overnight on the same trail and ran into some old wizard guy with a white beard that helped them out.

I'm way over in the West of Ireland!! Most of the cases you talk about, i have never heard of. The scenery is breathtaking, just watching it on tv!! I can't even imagine what it's like to be there! Ireland is beautiful but so tiny and always raining🙈🙈I really appreciate the work you put into these videos. For anyone who feels the need to criticise, Bryan does this so selflessly for the victims and their families. Just imagine what the victims may have endured and the families left behind. I have been educated about staying safe from videos like this. My husband and I visited Yosemite in 2016 in early May. We are not hikers due to my health problems but Yosemite is a beautiful place to visit. We spent one night and the scenery was majestic! If I go on another vaca I plan on getting a GPS device for me and my husband If it is going to be close to a wilderness. I’m so glad for the women’s family they at least found her remains.

You can go missing with a crowd or alone. Never be afraid to go hiking alone when prepared. You can't wait for everyone in life to be available to go hiking and put your life on hold. Smart people and dumb people go missing.there is no discretion when it comes to mistakes. Sometimes I don't want to tell people where I am on occasion.you have to have a little faith in the universe. Death comes for all of us eventually.

The Trackers did an excellent analysis of probability. They apparently have a plan or procedure of "what would the person do" that they follow in these circumstances. Doing research by them on her behaviors and character was critical. I have followed these stories for a while and what I see reoccurring over and over is that the authorities follow the standard of grids and saturating the area with searchers. There have been research experiments done years ago by the Pennsylvania F&G on an 10 acre fence enclosed heavy brush woods. They sent hunters in to find any bucks, the hunters never did, not one , even though there were 5 inside the enclosure. When I am in the woods, I never leave my vehicle for whatever reason without a knife, coat, jacket, matches and an awareness of where I am. People who grew up in the city or suburbs should just stay there and explore local small parks

Your preparations for exploring the outdoors is faulty at best. Read outdoor hiking guides, hike with an experienced group for experience, and learn to survive on your own when lost, don't forget to find and read the book, Staying Found". That will fill in he gaps for your exploration necessities. In scouting we call them the Ten Essentials, none of our Scouts or Youth groups dare venture out without them.

Ignoring/disobeying/violating Park signs and park rules holds also for small town and county parks~especially the leash rule! I don't see such deliberate violations as "free" choice but rather an anti~social selfishness where the freedom of others to enjoy the same park is not given even a second thought. Such people~and their number here is legion~require outside force to control their actions

It's amazing how fast you can get lost. I was hiking early season and ran into snow as I climbed. After a while, I started post-holing and between this, and the time, I could see I just needed to turn around and head back down. Well, the snow obscured the trail enough that I got off trail and turned around. I had to sit down and gather myself, study the terrain, have a snack and some water, and then head in a direction where I knew I'd have to bi-sect the trail. I eventually did, and got back to my car safety, but I could so easily have been lost a lot longer.

Good one. Winter is not a good time to camp in the parks. However, summer (vacation time) is the best. So out of all the seasons summer is the best season ton camp in the parks. Just saying.

I can’t remember exactly, but back in the day they told you to mark where you were if lost or maybe it was so you would not get lost. So if it happened you could find your way back or rescuers could find you. They probably don’t mention that anymore with all the modern technology. You are very respectful, thorough in your research and concise in your narration, you are also clearly very curious as to what happened to these people. You do not have the types of videos and photographic idiocy such as hands bursting from beneath soil, bigfoot, unidentifiable creatures or supposed aliens that some missing persons channels resort to, which utterly destroys any credibility they may have aspired to. Yours is a serious channel, respectfully and thoroughly covering very serious and distressing cases in which families are still hoping for answers. I purposely went cross country skiing into an area of dense pines, just relying on my tracks to get out. I followed what I thought was a straight line without the benefit of the sun due to thick clouds. In about an hour and a half I came across some tracks which startled me, until I realized they were mine.

I see people in lower Yosemite falls walk on the rocks ALL the time. Last time I went there was a couple taking wedding pictures literally 100 feet above the bridge. Idk how they even got up there but they were in a suit and dress. I was blown away at the stupidity and how they even allow people to do this.

She hiked off in a wrong direction, and got farther and farther away. She then slipped into very cold water, and was unable to get out before she lost control of her arms and legs.

Never go hiking alone in unfamiliar territory , a personal locator beacon is really a safeguard one should have . There are predators out there , some known and some perhaps other worldly . More people disappear in Yosemite than any Other location , people need to know this fact , don’t be alone there even for a short time .
