I'm Japanese. You really well described Yoshinoya's beef bowl as " very blue color homey meal ". It's a typical cheep food in Japan for working class people or poor students. It's really such a blue color meal in Japan. But we rarely cock beef bowl at home. Anyway, if I happen to have to go to the US, I would eat at Yoshinoya.

In Japan there are three major gyudon chains: yoshinoya, matsuya, and sukiya. yoshinoya is by far the most famous and has the most storefronts worldwide(in China there are at least 10 yoshinoyas for every matsuya). But my family and most japanese people i know prefer matsuya for a simple bowl of gyudon. its my go-to breakfast place everytime i stay in Japan(pretty heavy for breakfast i know)

Yoshinoya's opened when I was living in LA. It's basically a Japanese Gyu-don bowl. That's all. At first, the meat was more meat than fat. But over years, they got greedy and served very fatty slices instead of meaty slices. That's when I switched to the chicken teriyaki bowl and it was very tasty.

YOU'RE KILLING ME!! Back in the 70s in Aurora Colorado there was a Yoshinoya my brother took me to. When you go in the guy just asked you how many because the Guydon(can't spell it right) Bowl was the only thing they had and it was called beef bowl. I was skeptical at first but for only 50 Cent what the heck. It was so good I ordered another bowl. We used to go there all the time I would pile The Pickled ginger on top and just go to town. It was so good and they closed after brisket went through the roof. I watched them closely as they swirl the beef and onions in this big pot of broth and put it on some rice. I would love to have that again so bad but I can't find it here in America I live in Oklahoma City now. I went up to the Yoshinoya website and saw they spend their menu tremendously I think they would be a great hit in the malls out here in America. Especially with the Beef Bowl being simple yet satisfying. So send me some and I'll pay you!
