An excellent tutorial with some great tips Kevin, ‘E’ can sure be a monster for some beginners especially those with fat fingers like me. It really does come down to practice, practice and more practice. Cheers

I bow before you! I am a beginner. 3 Weeks. Tried to play "E". And found 2 different versions (and there are 5). And i thought "WTF? Which one is the right one? 5 different version to grap? How can it be?". And found the solution here! Thanks a lot. You really saved my day today! :) Thumb up & subscription done.

I don’t use shape 2 a fair bit which just is essentially a D shape with a mini bar on the A string. :) I like shape 1 when transitioning from a G major chord. I like position 4 when using the similar C shape for G and F, and just sliding position of the bar up and down. I’ll have to work on the 3 version a bit better!

Very clear explanation. I have real problems getting my little finger into the space, so your suggestion that maybe I should look at a tenor to give me more space was an interesting suggestion.

GR8 lesson and GR8 comments. Flairing your elbow is counter instinctive but as in anything you want to get good at.. practice practice practice.

I'm left handed and chose to just turn it upside down and learn the chords upside down. My understanding is chords like E and D are challenging for right handed beginners. Those two chords are actually simple to play..upside down. In fact a lot of the major chords are easier to play upside down. As you would expect however, some chords are simply impossible to play upside down, for me anyways. When I run into those chords (like F#), I just go to position #2. F# is played just like an E major, just up two frets. Very easy. I would recommend any left handers wanting to learn ukulele, try teaching yourself the chords upside down before changing the strings. This way, you can pick up anyone's Uke and play it.

Thanks for this! I'm a newbie so the "E" and "B" chords are boogers for me. This helps very much.

Thank you for this. It's very tricky. Would it be ok to play version 2 (or the barred version) but leave the e string open? And, can you do bflat next?

3:30 What is the word? "Bar Version" or "Bard Version" :) I am a not native english speaker. And what does it mean?

Oh! "Barre Version" I guess? Saw it right now in a other video title :))) I like "Bard Version" :)

It’s ‘barred’. It’s the past tense version of ‘bar’ … like something that has had a bar put on it is ‘barred’.

you forgot the easiest one, the two-finger E, 1X02. You play it like the first shape shown except that you lean the index finger so that it frets the G string and mutes the C string.
