100% agree! I HATE spending money. I send my paycheck to my savings and just transfer over exactly what I will need for bills/groceries and just tell myself that I’m broke. 😅 I’ve had the same iPhone 6s and a 2006 Prius, both paid for with cash.

People eating out nonstop is such a waste of money. Now people have 7 year car payments just so they can drive a luxury car. Now with everyone loosing their job, it’s clear most people have no savings. CRAZY
@taoist32
@taoist32 4 жыл бұрын
Diane Barone It’s not necessarily a waste for me. We all have priorities. I like eating out. I always save between 20%-30% of my gross income per paycheck just for regular savings, save 5%-10% for my investments, and the rest for current expenses. Eating out is one of my expenses. Unlike most, I keep my budget simple yet effective. My savings are higher than 70% of the population despite not making much money per year. I am frugal and don’t buy anything if it is not a need. I don’t desire to buy fancy cars or fashionable clothes or shoes. I buy at discount stores most of the time. Eating out is my pleasure so I do it.

My sister had to replace the rear axle on her old car for about 2k. I doubt it was that severe but regardless, she sold the car entirely for about 300 bucks and used that as a down payment on a car she now has to pay over 500 dollars a month for for the next 6 years. The old car was perfectly fine and paid off. Instead of helping her replace the axle, my dad told her to just get a new car. He knew in advance what the payments would be too. I can't stand my family sometimes 💀💀

A lot of the desire to impress goes back to childhood and our teen years when we're trying to establish our worth, a higher spot in the social pecking order, and since we don't have many actual achievements to set us apart, we use material goods as indicators. A lot of people never grow out of that.

I came home one day thinking I needed a new leather coat bcuz my current leather was about 15 yrs old and severely faded. But, the leather didn’t have any holes in it and still in good condition, besides being faded. I just happened to have some black leather dye and mink oil paste. 3.5 hrs later I had a new leather jacket, at least that’s what people thought because it came out perfect. Didn’t cost me anything bcuz I had the supplies already. If I had to put a cost to it, $4 on 1 bottle of black leather dye and about $4 for small container of mink oil paste. I spent $400 on the original leather jacket that I had for 15 years and now it’s good for another 15 years or longer if I take care of it.

Basically I have stopped chasing money and at 61 years young I have never felt so happy and content in my life. It feels so good to be out of the rat race. Thanks for your videos Tim!

I was raised by a very strict family money-wise because of it. May not have had a lot growing up or all the other stuff that other kids had but at least I was able to live comfortably have food or roof over my head and education nature outdoors. Whenever I've worked at places I've always been kidding because I'm rich they call me, no, it's just that I saved a lot. When I bought my first vehicle they would kid me that I was rich because I bought a very nice vehicle, I'd said no I bought this and it's what I wanted. and your so right and about how we utilize our money it's our own business. Also with budgeting my parents were strict I learned a lot and have avoided debt in fact I've never been in debt thankfully because of that.

I mean I agree w some of the things mentioned: for example where I find the idea wrong is to invest more wisely: learn to cook or cook at home compared to eating out all the time or UberEats, get products that are relatively the same or what you’re looking I budget range (went to a pawn shop and got 3 phones; 1 iPhone 7 w 128g, and 2 droids (galaxy a5, and lg) for just hitting 600. It’s more so finding a comfort in how you spend your wealth, not so much living minimal. Also, your comic book collection could actually seen as a personal investment (I collect Arizona cans and Vans shoes)

An alternative to cheap new clothes, which are poorer quality, less durable and generally worse for environment and humanity, is higher quality used clothes. You can purchase used clothes from Patagonia or REI, for example. Duluth Trading Post clothes aren't available used, I don't think, but they are extremely durable and one pair of pants will last many years while remaining in good condition compared to Walmart pants that, if worn every day, are more likely to be trash in a year or less.

Durable goods like clothes, appliances, etc are one thing... you can learn to keep using and reusing what you have, learn some basic repair skills such as hand mending small rips/holes in clothing to vastly extend their life ... The other category is recurrent expenses....food housing cellphone gas being good examples. . Those you have to find out ways to pay less for them because you will always be repeatedly buying them--daily and monthly.
