In 2019, 150 million Chinese traveled abroad, more than twice the population of the United Kingdom. If the Chinese Communist Party is what the Western media says is an evil government, then you should see a lot of Chinese refugees on the streets of the West instead of Chinese tourists taking tourist photos. From this logic, you can see how ridiculous the western media's coverage of China is.
@TAL142

Well media have been exaggerating negative news in China for several decades. That is nothing new. US was able to control newspapers, radios and TVs for last 40 plus years. Even on the internet, the west has been very successfully in overloading negative China news in like Google search. So even some oversea Chinese that don't travel and have no friends or relatives in China think everything in China is bad. Of course it is not as clean as city if you visit the more rural areas anywhere. But China seems to be able to achieve their 5 year plan again and again including the toilet revolution in 2015. But nowadays they even have smart toilets that monitor air quality and you can find them on their apps. Of course western media probably say these are taking away our privacy. This is why US don't want any China social media because that would take away one of their propaganda machines.

Western media often talked about China fisherman. But the fact is China is the runaway leader when it comes to farming high value in addition to traditional aquatic flora and fauna for human consumption with 63.7 million metric tons produced in 2019. And China is also number 1 in agriculture production.

@Wong Ling i love Cantonese steamed fish. it's the best way to eat fish! we mostly do not eat the actual larger size of the 龍躉 (general term for several species of Giant Groupers like Queensland Grouper, Potato Grouper, or Pacific Goliath Grouper). the larger of the species can grow up to 250-270cm long and there's very few restaurants with a steamer that can hold a fish even half that size, which is why most fish if they're bigger than around 10-15lbs they'll be cut up and stirfried instead. i love eating the stirfried skin of the giant grouper. it's got a really nice chewy texture.

Chaozhou is one of the early source of emigrants from China to South East Asian countries like Singapore, Thailand & Malaysia. A large proportion of the Chinese in Singapore & Thailand are descendants of these migrants. They are called Teochews in their dialect. Many in Singapore still speak the dialect and widely use for religious & traditional ceremonies & festivities but it's use among the younger generation is losing fast due to gov't policy discouraging the use of dialect in the Chinese community.
