Saying it once more for those who missed it: vasectomies are considered PERMANENT. They are classified under sterilization not contraception. Yes, they are reversible but the chance of conceiving is, at best, 30-70% based on length of time since procedure, the viability of fluid in the vas deferens, any prior fertility issues (such as low sperm count), and the expertise of your surgeon. Oh, and reversals are not covered by insurance so they can be costly. So think long and hard before making this decision. (pun intended)
@lucifernazaedi

Usually people get them because they already have kids and don’t plan on having more, or they find out they have a gene that can causes serious health issues in their offspring. So doing this when you’re young and stupid is just… well… as I said, stupid.

That requires restraint, dedication and a desire to save yourself for that special someone, traits that seem to be absent in recent generations. These people have essentially been taught to do whatever feels good at that moment, without ever stopping to think about potential consequences. I'm not necessarily saying wait to have sex till after marriage, but you should be pretty damn sure that the person you are dating is someone you are more than willing to have a future with.

I got a vasectomy about ten years into my former marriage. After the inevitable divorce, another female tried to accuse me of getting her pregnant (like, two weeks after our first time together). Well, I visited my urologist, and got a motility and count test. The urologist told me that he gets a lot of these lately, and gave me certified test results for almost free. Of course the girl turned on the waterworks when I confronted her, and tried to guilt me into taking care of someone else's baby. Thank goodness I got that vasectomy in my 40s.

I won't get graphic but I'll say one had the inability to stand & salute completely and most couldn't complete the task. How frustrating! I've also came to the realization that a lot of young women do not understand how "the pill" works. They think it only regulates their cycle. They are not being taught basic stuff. No wonder they think men can have babies.

After we had our kids and such, my hubby decided to get a vasectomy because it was less invasive than me getting my tubes tied. He had like 4 years of painful epididimytis. @mysticmama_3692
@mysticmama_3692 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. My husband wants to do this for the same reason....because it's much less invasive that getting me sterilized, but I'm afraid of those kinds of complications for him. We REALLY don't want another baby because our 10 year old son is severely Autistic and requires so much attention from us that it wouldn't be fair to him, to us, OR to the new baby if we accidentally got pregnant somehow. Sterilization of some sort IS the best option for us, since I'm highly fertile and I have adverse reactions to birth control that impact my ability to function...we also don't trust condoms because that failed once already, and that's how we have our son, lol. It's a hard decision to make, and one that shouldn't be made lightly or to fit a trend.

A note to guys contemplating this procedure; The doctors won't tell you how common this occurs after-the-fact, however a condition that can arise months after your vasectomy is called chronic epididymitis which is the repeated inflammation of the scar tissue. The epididymis is the tube connecting your testicles to the rest of the plumbing. Imagine that tube swelling up and hurting off and on for the rest of your life, especially when you get aroused. When the doctors tell you that this procedure is "safe" it only means you won't die from it, it does not mean you won't have a ton of painful side effects which will potentially ruin every relationship from now until your death.

It’s definitely good to see men taking some responsibility for preventing unwanted pregnancies. It’s a shame we have to use a drastic measure like vasectomy though. I wish someone would invent something men could wear while having sex, then remove and discard it afterwards. Maybe it could be made from latex, I’ve heard that’s a pretty sturdy material.

You're right Brett! I'm a woman in my late 20's and I work in surgery at a hospital with several OB/GYNs. The number of childless and unmarried young women (like even late teens and early 20's) who are getting their "tubes tied," have skyrocketed. I heard a nurse and nurse anesthetist talking about this and I made the comment that they shouldn't make a decision like that at such a young age. The anesthetist's reply was, "they're terrified!" WTF are they terrified of? The most completely natural- and absolute paramount necessity- of carrying on civilization? Taking part in something that hundreds of billions of females of every single species that has ever existed has done for hundreds of millions of years? The sign of a dead society is when we have become so comfortably numb in life that we don't place our hopes and dreams for a better life, in the next generation.

I had a vasectomy done several years ago. I had 2 kids at the time. I was on the younger side of things so my doctor wanted my wife's input and commented several times that it is considered reversible but it also has a good chance of not being reversible over time. The fact a doctor would allow this, knowing the reversing could fail, is ridiculous. Of course, maybe these guys should not ever reproduce.

A few years ago, most doctors would not perform a vasectomy or tie a woman's tubes if you were not over a certain age and had kids already. The military would make you take a course that informs you what the process is and the dangers of the surgery.
@mbourque

several years ago, I got snipped. BUT, I'm 45 and I have 5 GROWN children (and 3 grandkids)(yes, started young). the procedure was done at the VA hospital in New Orleans. the only pain was the needle for the pain killer. It was less than a hour total and the doctor was very nice and talkative, telling me what was going on the whole time. this made me comfortable to understand that everything was happening like it was supposed to happen. Since it was the VA, it was totally free for me. I did have some serious bruising afterwards for about a week, but the heat and cold swapping helped immensely. the after surgery pain was no worse than I felt after getting hit in the balls before (was just a dull ache, not sharp pain). BUT I had to be vetted before they would do the procedure. Like any responsible doctor, they weren't just going to do it just because I wanted it. I had to be past a certain age and had to already have at least 2 kids before they would consider me for the procedure. They knew that they could be responsible legally if I was too young or didn't already have kids and they did this to me, then later I wanted more kids yet couldn't have them because of this. So, I'm going to wait to see if in 5-10 years there's going to be a flood of lawsuits against these doctors doing the 'spur of the moment' procedures....

Both my wife and I agreed that we were stopping at one due to financial as well as physical and mental strain that we thought we were prepared for but weren’t and if we decide in the future to have another I’ll get it reversed and if it doesn’t take then we’ll try to adopt. What’s weird about this is that when a woman wants her tubes tied, she basically has to argue with the doctor. My sister definitely did. They really discourage women of child bearing age from doing it. But, it seems much like doctors are all for performing this procedure on men, even though, as you said, it can become permanent. I just find that so odd. Also, another example of why you should research procedures heavily before getting them.
