Ever heard this from someone? What is too picky? What is realistic? Today we're talking about one special branch of the whole PICKY VS. REALISTIC tree.

YES! And on that note, if I don’t meet someone who meets my standards and shares my values, fine! Marriage is not the only way to be happy. If I can’t be happy single, I most definitely won’t be happy married (cause I’ll be dependent on another human for joy rather than finding it in myself and in God). THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!

I absolutely LOVE this! For all my sisters who are still waiting to meet a virtuous man of faith, KEEP WAITING! It is 100% worth it. I recently got into my first relationship with a young man who shares my faith and values and let me tell you, it is SO worth the 22 years of singleness I spent refusing to settle for less. Of course, there are going to be times when you wonder "am I ever going to find someone?" but let me tell you, it is better to be single than to be stuck with the wrong person. Just a few words of encouragement for any young people who might come across this! The wait is worth it!

Love the pizza parlor analogy. And worse than being lonely alone is being lonely in the key relationship of your life because, while the other person "doesn't mind" what's at the heart of your life, s/he is not invested in it with you.

As a guy, I agree with all of this! Ladies, don’t compromise your standards, foundation, or identity to attract a guy! If you do, you’re giving the guy permission to define your standards or identity. No matter how high your standards are, challenge guys to meet or exceed your standards if they want to pursue you. The right one for you will not only meet or exceed those standards, but also honor and respect your identity and foundation!

Taraji P. Henson once said "People like to project their fears onto you." That's the logic behind that phrase "You're too picky." So whenever you hear that just know that they're indirectly telling you what they wouldn't do if they were you. Your passion is your purpose and at the end of the day, you just need one person who's truly as invested in the same passion as you are. There are a lot of good men out there, but if they don't share the same passion as you, then they're not good for you.

I wish I'd had you next to me when I was discussing this topic with my friend!! He was trying to explain that if I cut off any guy who's not a Christian I'm limiting myself in understanding new views and perspectives and that he wouldn't want me to limit myself and be unhappy or unfulfilled because of that, but I was trying to tell him that he doesn't need to worry about that for me because I know what's good for me and what will make me happy and marrying someone with opposing beliefs to mine and not sharing my passion for God is not it

That made me feel safe, respected, and sincerely loved. Love this, Emily. I completely identify with this video. I can't tell you how many times I have been told by my "formerly-Catholic" friends that say, "Are you serious? You're still on that 'waiting until marriage' thing that we were told in middle school. Oh my God, come on. Be realistic." I just smile and nod my head, "Yes, I am old-fashioned." I'm not being unrealistic. I have standards. I find it so funny when my guy-friends in grad school find out that I am Catholic and religiously so, they stop paying attention to me. God is helping me weed-out the ones who don't love Him as much as I do. I've been praying for my future husband until I was 13 and will continue to do so. God bless, Emily. Praying for you and your family and the whole world during this time. Stay safe, healthy, and in faith, my sister of God. 💕

Girls should stop having such low requirements! Just because it's definitely not easy to find somebody, doesn't mean ya should stop being picky and standing up for yourself! I know it's hard but gurrrlll, at the end of the day, ya want to be happy. So better wait and be picky than be with someone that makes you unhappy. PERIOD

I made a list with all the values I hope to find in a man. I put this paper on the wall of my room and everyday I look at that to make sure I won't forget I deserve the best. Sometimes I think I'm being so picky, but suddenly I think '' Come on, girl. This is probably one of the most important decisions of your life''. I didn't want to share my list with anyone but God, so I made it in English (as I'm learning English and just in case my parents get into my room and read the list...they don't speak English). Of course I tried not to be futile and I chose his commitment to God as my top priority but I have to say that since I've done it I feel peace in my heart. Having standards is a way to resist loneliness because dating the first guy who appears in front of us is not a big deal anymore. God bless you Emily ♥

Yes! I want a passionate Catholic who believes sex should be saved for marriage. Having dated men who were either not Catholic or didn't value chastity, I realize that I'm weak. I want someone who will help me become a saint, not drag me down into hell. Now, I'm in my late 30s, so I've had to think long and hard on maybe being single for life. I decided my soul was worth more than being married to the wrong person.

This is important advice. I myself am very comfortable with being single, even if I have loathed it at times. People act like I'm too unwilling to bend to societal norms to ever get a boyfriend. The truth is, I don't want to compromise my individuality for anyone else, I'd rather be single. A friend once told me I was too picky about what denomination I wanted a potential partner to be apart of. At the time I reluctantly agreed, but I now see how that could cause problems when it comes to differences in doctrines. For example, what you believe about the state of the dead. When raising kids, this could cause confusion. Where did grandpa go where he died? Daddy says he's in heaven, Mommy says he's sleeping while he waits for Jesus to come back. Thanks for the awesome video Emily, the pizza waving was great xD

This is just the main reason why I broke up with my ex-boyfriend one year ago. He still is a nice person and he's very dear to my heart, but we don't share the same core values and beliefs for example religious beliefs whatsoever. It's already been hard for 2.5 years. I wanted us both to have the chance to find someone even more fitting than we were. And even though it's tough because I feel society's pressure to "stop being so picky at almost 31 years" that it's very important to remind you of this exact message which Emily shares in this awesome video! Thank you Emily. Also: Currently reading Go Bravely and it's so full of God's wisdom for us, comprised in your beautiful words. ❤️

Hi Emily and all who are reading this! I'm so glad you made this video like you have no idea! It really motivates me even more to wait and pray for that someone God is preparing for me, because sometimes it's so hard to wait and the fact that you have half of your beloved ones Catholics who supports my ideals about marrying a catholic guy who has the same passions as me and to live in chastity until marriage and on the other side having these friends or familiars who say that if I'm picky at my short age (almost 24yo) I will never get married and be alone and the older you are the less chances you have to "find a good man", which sometimes it upsets those comments. Once a friend told me to write a letter to God to pray and ask for a good Catholic man and how I would like him to be. I think it's an intimate and wonderful thing to do if someone would like to do the same. Thank you so much, Emily, for encourage each one of us who watch your videos and to never let us down! I love and admire you! Thanks for your videos (: God bless you all!

This is so good to hear. I'm a Protestant Christian in college and the guy I like is Greek Orthodox. Right now, I'm still learning about the orthodoxy and how his beliefs line up with mine (and how passionate he is on them), but I'm struggling to keep in mind that if they DON'T line up, I've gotta let him go. It's too easy to believe that no one better will come but for so many reasons I know that's just not true. I'm really glad you made this video Emily!

Greek Orthodox means Orthodox Christian. So you're both Christian. Of course, Orthodox Christianity is the ancient Christian faith so there's a long history and a beautiful depth of layers to it. It is common that the western world misunderstands the essence of Orthodox Christianity, mainly because it flourished in Eastern Europe and the Middle-East versus the Anglo-Saxon West and seems very foreign to the West, when indeed it is the beginning of how Christianity blossomed. After all, the New Testament was written in Greek. Reading about the history of Christianity from the start, how people perceived and practiced the faith then, are good questions to have in mind. Also, y2am is an Orthodox Christian KZbin channel that may answer some of your questions of Orthodox Christianity. I'm sure being open to learning and understanding the same religion in a different light is not only helpful for you to figure out your personal relationship but also to learn about your Christian faith and its history. All the best!

Wow, I just had a conversation yesterday with a friend and she accused me of being too picky. She told me I would never find someone if I kept being so picky. I told her “How am I being too picky, when I just want someone who shares my values?”. I tried to explain to her all the repercussions of marrying someone who, unlike me, for instance, doesn’t believe in God. She asked me at the end “Can’t you just go to mass on Sunday on your own?”. She didn’t understand... Thank you so much for this video! It really helps :)

I love this. I have been in relationships where i felt emotionally and spiritually stuck. I left then behind and prayed to God for someone to love me the way I deserved to be loved. Three weeks later I met my husband who is a Christian. His faith and love for God is strong and instead of feeling emotionally and spiritually stuck, I felt free. Like I could talk about God when I wanted, I could discuss messages I felt I was getting from God, and when I was depressed and my faith was waivering he guided me quietly and loving back to God, just like I needed. Don't settle for someone just because they're great in so many other ways; if they don't hit the major check marks that you NEED to be met, it doesn't matter if they look good on paper in other ways.

Amen sister! Compromise is apart of life but the last thing you want to be doing is compromising your VERY waking moment instead of sharing and enjoying life with someone. I love what CD Brooks once said, "I get women coming to me saying, 'Oh, but Pastor if I don't marry him I'll die!' And after they marry that person, they wish they were dead." Marry for the right reasons; not because of loneliness or infatuation. And if you want kids, please remember that they pay for your mistakes as well. Blessings xx

Can you do another version of this video where you talk about good standards vs. bad standards? That’s something I’ve always really struggled with. I’m a Christian and to me it’s important that if I get married it’s to a man who’s whole life revolves around knowing God and making Him known. I don’t want a good Christian boy who goes to church and “counts as a Christian”, I want the real, passionate, deal. I’m the type who is really nerdy about the Bible and I love to get into long conversations about what this verse means or what that passage is saying about something in theology, and I want a man who gets just as exited about that as I do, but I’m being told that it’s unrealistic to expect a guy my age to be like that, that only middle aged and older men who have had time to mature in their faith are like that. So in that topic (and many others) I’m curious if my standards are too high and I should just give in, or if I’m right on track and I should keep it up. So a video on standards would be extremely helpful for me (and I’m sure many others)

I needed to hear this. I just broke off a relationship with a guy who was a fallen away Catholic. Of course the faith wasn’t the center of his life but it is the center of mine. We would go to Sunday mass together but that was about it. I didn’t see much of an interest about learning more about the faith from him. Anything faith based that we would talk about or do would come from me. And it’s not like I could have even expected him to be on the same page as me because he was away from the faith for 6 years and really only knew what he did through CCD. He was a good guy. But I recently came to the realization that if I ended up marrying him the faith would only be important to me. I’m sure he’d come to Sunday mass with me but I wouldn’t expect him to initiate praying the rosary every night or get any support when doing anything faith based or religious. When I looked into the future I saw that he would probably never be as passionate about the faith as I am. So yeah. It was a really hard decision but I believe it was the right one. I still pray for him every day, hoping that he’s able to see how fulfilling it is to make God the center of your life. I’m trying to keep my standards high. So this definitely encouraged me. Thank you 💖

I think you are right, but I think as people get older and remain unmarried, it is easy to rethink those things. Like you got married pretty young so you didn’t have to hold out that long, but if someone is 32 or 33 and not married, I think it would be easy to lower one standards or maybe reevaluate.

It's funny that I was just discussing this with a friend the other day and he couldn't wrap his head around my reasons for my decision and I couldn't wrap my head around his reasons why I shouldn't have made that decision!! But this video helped to reaffirm where and why I stand in this perspective and to know that I'm not the only one people think is being crazy!

Preach it, girl! I find it difficult to meet a guy who shares my spiritual values. I've met guys who were Christian, but drank and smoked and as I do neither of those things, it wasn't an option for me to date those guys, though I wasn't attracted to them anyway. I've also met guys who don't drink or smoke, but they don't share my spiritual values. I feel like God is still working on me anyway, so it gives me time to develop into the woman God wants me to be.

Pray for me sisters. I know the Holy Spirit has been telling me to leave my relationship but I was silly and thought that I could inspire him to love God more. He was raised Catholic but strayed when he got older and I thought that it wouldn’t be missionary dating if he was already brought up in the church I guess. He has been absolutely wonderful to me (chivalrous, masculine, loves his family, adores me, all of it) but like Emily reminded me, I would rather be single at 35 and whole and fulfilled in the Lord than wishing my husband was at church with me, or wishing that he would pray over our family even if I’m not there, or prioritize teaching our children about God 10 years in. I need all of His strength to do it. Today is actually my one year anniversary with this guy. I let way too many people speak into my life and minimize the place that God should have. But forgiveness is abounding and satisfaction is found only in the Lord
