Things that bug us about camp grounds. 1. A back-in site with the utility connections at the front of the site. 2. Utility connections so low to the ground (water & electrical) that it is very difficult to connect a surge protector, water filter or pressure regulator. 3. Sewer connections that are 6 inches or more above ground level. 4. Sewer connections that are recessed in concrete that make it difficult to connect a standard elbow sewer hose outlet. 5. Electric connections that are 6 feet above ground on a utility pole.

I was camping at a state park and there were 3 families camped together at the end of a loop. Their kids were running around, riding their bikes and just play in the road but not near their campsites but right by every one else's sites. They were nearly hitting people decorations and things. Then a guy who had walked up to the restroom came by their site and heard the parents yelling and telling their kids to stop playing by their sites and to go play by the other sites. He called the park rangers as he was walking away and stopped to tell several of us who were outside what was going on. The rangers came over and told them to stop this behavior and control their kids or leave. There was a bit of an argument and they were kicked out of the park and peace ensued.
@vaskylark29 күн бұрын
I feel sorry for the kids. They probably got into trouble when their family was kicked out. I think sometimes older people or those with no kids have too little patience when it comes to kids. No, I am not one of those inconsiderate campers since we haven't even gotten a rig yet to go camping but we are actively looking haha As a mother of five though (kids grown) I would simply tell the kids to quiet down a bit myself. No need to tell the hosts on them or try to get them kicked out. Most kids are good people if you speak to them in a friendly manner. I'd only do that if they were playing at my site and doing something dangerous or annoying. My fun is also important, but so is theirs. Otherwise let them have fun I say!

My wife and I have owned and operated two different campgrounds for the last 35 years. I'd offer you other examples but you'd have to make this about a 300 part series. Speeding through the park though is probably the one that makes my blood boil the most. My biggest fear is to have to pull some child out from under a vehicle because someone was too stupid to drive 5 MPH.

Oh me too! I hate that in my sticks and bricks neighborhood too. I've actually screamed at a person for speeding before and one was my neighbor though I didn't know it at the time and thought it was some stranger driving way too fast when kids were riding bikes very close by. He actually lost control of the vehicle, spun around in his midlife crisis, sporty corvette, hit the neighbors mailbox and took it out. Later he called me by name and admitted his foot slipped off the brake and hit the gas while turning down our street, and that he intended to pay for their mailbox haha Then I felt bad because I realized I knew him and it isn't like me to yell at anyone, but I sure yelled at him. Mama bear thing got me riled lol

We are staying at a campground that requires every dog owner to submit a poop sample for DNA testing so that if they find some poop that wasn't cleaned up they can find the owner and fine them. We don't travel with dogs so it doesn't impact us but we do enjoy the fact that we haven't come across any "land mines" as we've walked around the campground.

One of our favorite camping memories was one time when sitting outside the motorhome at the picnic table, we heard a huge commotion. We looked up and saw two big dogs that were tied to a giant cooler full of all their weekend food and drinks. The dogs took off down the campground road with the cooler tumbling along behind them, throwing everything in all directions. It was hilarious! My biggest complaint at campgrounds is the fact that campground hosts rarely do anything about bad behavior unless campers complain. If they were proactive, almost all these problems would cease to exist. We were at a campground one time when a group of people had their dog chained to a tree with the dog barking nonstop for hours. When I went to see where the campground host was, they were occupying the campsite next to the barking dog!

@EndlessRVingАй бұрын
Agree 👍
@JustinSydАй бұрын
Yes there needs to be a way to report issues discretely at every rv campground and it should be part of the duties that daily these reports are addressed sensibly and in a friendly manner by maybe a dedicated worker or two at the park. Rules need to be enforced in kind ways and there is a balance, you want to be a friendly park that is not too restrictive and not gestapo and not with excessive rules but at the same time you need some basic rules that need to be explained to every customer. You can't please every customer or have a pefect park but you can have some basic rules. The basic rulesneed to be printed on an information sheet that every customer should get a copy of and should sign in writing they can read that is not too small. If they break the rules after 2 or 3 warnings they should get small extra fines.

I had a site at a state park campground where it started out downhill and then ramped up in the back. When I arrived I had at least ten people come by and tell me how bad it was to get level. This explains why it was available on a busy week, but I didn’t have a problem getting my trailer in a spot it could be level. The rear bumper was almost on the ground so I couldn’t use stabilizers, but otherwise it was a great site. I have dogs and pick up after them and deposit the bags in trash cans, but my pet peeve is people who bag the poop and leave the bag on the ground. Many times it’s on a trail in the woods, and I would prefer people to get a stick and flick the poop into the woods rather than drop a plastic bag on the ground in random spots for others to pick up. My dogs bark situationally. They will bark at things they see out the window, but they won’t bark on walks. On their own they tend to sleep unless someone knocks on the door.

Ugh! The disgusting bathroom is something we thankfully have never witnessed in any RV park, but that is one of the reasons we have a bathroom in our RV! One of the things we have seen all too often are the calling cards of campers who don't pick up after their dogs, will never understand that! We've seen campsites with varying degrees of level, none as much as you mentioned, Izzy, 18" is a lot. There was one in NC (the campground was literally on the side of a mountain) that we booked, the campsite was described as being a "pull through". Had we attempted to pull through, our coach would have been high-centered and stuck, necessitating a tow! In any case, when you camp, invariably, you will encounter a few folks with whom common sense and common courtesy, are traits they don't possess. But fortunately, these situations have been the exception, not the rule, in our experience anyway.

I'm a camp Host at a state park in Utah [well I'm off season now]. I've been extremely lucky. The only real problem I've had is firepits. People burn garbage in them. Also they gather tree branches, or actually cut tree branches off living trees and throw them in the firepit. Even worse, they put these huge logs in that extend out several feet from the firepit. Gathering firewood is illegal in the state parks of utah. Unfortunately, the park rangers are never around, but that's a whole other subject. At least we don't have to clean bathrooms at my park.

We always put up a portable fence ( 24 inches high ) so the dogs can go out to pee in the night without me having to get dressed. Takes maybe 10 minutes to set up. Although a park , after doing this for over 5 years of travel, told up we could not have the fence. We would have to leave. So we got our money back and went less than two miles down the road to another camp ground that had no problem with our small fence.

I have a American stafford Terrier that I rescued from a local shelter, I keep him on a leash or lead whenever he is outside my trailer. He does fine with other dogs, But with people he has not met before he will back away and hair goes up and the growling starts. So I am always aware when other people and kids are anywhere near the campsite. I dont want random people trying to come pet him as I am not sure how he would react. But the good thing is he is not a Barker unless he feels like he or the wife and I are threatened.

We have friends that a number of years ago had this happen: they arrived at a campground expecting to have an enjoyable time but later that a group of rowdy people showed up and camped right next to them. Well they cut them some slack and let them enjoy themselves during the day and evening, but, by night time when they still didn't quiet down, my friends decided to go to the ranger to express that they were not happy about the noise. Instead of the rangers handling it, they called the Sheriff. The Sheriff did not ask the group to leave, but instead suggested our friends leave. I believe it was because of the size of the crowd and I think the Sheriff's were not prepared or afraid to deal with an out of control crowd. I did not think that was very fair to our friends, because it was their vacation too. Maybe Izzy can shed some light on a situation like this?

But I'd like to say that if you have a legit complaint ruining your stay and the offender(s) are breaking rules (laws) then say something as it currently occurs. Yes, dogs are a large part of campground etiquette, and deserve the care and attention to keep them social and behaved. Unfortunately that thought is not universal and this is one of the reasons I think certain youtube social disallowed contrivances is appropriate. When a neighbor camper can not or will not control their animal, it leaves the immediate responsibility to me. And yes, the campground host should step in and intervene. I have experienced a case where the host (NF LEO and local sheriff both) accepted money from the inappropriate camper to turn the other way, to the point of snubbing my express complaints of their dog being off leash and unsupervised, tangling with my dogs who were leashed, on a run, in my campsite, while we were tent camping and present to observe and untangle all of this. (sorry for the run on sentence) We left after that. It was obvious the campground was socially owned by that bad neighbor. And I wouldn't be attempting to enjoy my visit if I corrected the nuisance animal issue within my ability.
