I think when we say we will be happy if/when, etc we are putting happiness in the future, which will never come because the only moment that exists is now. This is why being present is so powerful. It's more of choice, a conscious choice. Great vid Leo.

Exactly even though it's like I will be happy if I become first boy in the class but problem is that if you become first boy in the class and let's say you get 95 out of 100 your attitude will be why I have not got 100 out of 100 and even though you get 100 out of 100 in your life if you get any fault like a very tiny small amount you will regret cause you are so perfectionist and it's bad .so let go attitude is the best and create a good work habit which is important .Your videos are also excellent and useful

no, you're not happy if you get cut, if you're in physical pain, or if someone deeply hurts your feelings, happiness is pleasure and contentment, you have to do things in the now and not the future to be happy, and no you're not happy without money, do you think I'm happy with the pessimism that goes on in the future? No, I'm happy only when high on alcohol, tobacco or drugs, period!

Charles Fraunhofer There are Buddhist Monks who burn themselves alive while being in a calm meditative sit and you are telling me external circumstances matter more than the internal peace? Happiness is not dependent on the outside, it can be cultivated inside.
@charlesfraunhofer7893
@charlesfraunhofer7893 4 жыл бұрын
@@pierrolosapio4623 That's the fallacy Leo believes and many of his predecessors believed, but it's a lie. If I sat very still with no clothes on and no money I can't be happy with that, give me a tweed and money to buy tobacco and I'd perhaps be happy that I've got something, we're not satisfied with nothing, we're satisfied with the source of delight or joy, or with a recreation and diversion, (a source of) gratification, and a wish and desire, together with being content with it, happy comes from the word "hap" meaning chance, luck, therefore happy people are lucky people, and you have to have events, and therefore chance, to be happy, happy is implied that you're filled, you have everything, you can't be happy out of nothing.
@pierrolosapio4623
@pierrolosapio4623 4 жыл бұрын
Charles Fraunhofer Yeah, exactly YOU can’t be happy with that, doesn’t mean there is a way to be happy with that. A lotta people have shown that after requiring basic needs like food and Water, you don’t need anything else to live a blissful life. It is not a fallacy, it is demonstrable, people in India live in cages or streets with nothing but some clothes and a perfectly happy because they choose a spiritual life and minimizing the Material goodies. It’s fine if you don’t wanna make that commitment but don’t dismiss it just because you can’t be true to your self.

I been feeling this pretty heavy the past year. It's a little hard to explain. Mine might be mild, when something does disturb me I let go of it again easily once my consciousness wraps around it again. The anger or dissapointment is very reactionary when it happens. Most my unhappiness is around people funnily enough. I guess it's part of the understanding that people aren't too different to animals. It's just a field of nature. The concept of evil is so 2014 to me. There is either illuminated vision or There is the darkness. Those in the dark know not what they do

The only way to find happiness, is to not deliberately try to get it, but to accept the problems in life and let it come naturally. Trying to find unconditional is sort of a rule itself, and it puts you in a loophole.

From The Book of Not Knowing by Peter Ralston: "It isn't getting what we want that makes us happy. It's being happy with whatever we experience - or perhaps I should say happy regardless what we experience. To some people this will sound like a defeatist attitude, settling for mediocrity rather than striving for more. Yet nothing in the statement says that we can't strive, or create any number of activities or experiences. Simply that we are happy with whatever we experience, even the striving. But one of the traps we tend to fall into is to confuse being happy with being "finished." " I was just reading this this morning and my mind was blown. Man, I can't fathom what the world would look like if everyone read this book. It's phenomenal. Anyways, it's on Leo's book list, so check that out also if you haven't already ;)

Peoples egos are always getting hurt. It's a poetic Justice, cause we are all responsible for our own egos. When someone's hurting, just go ahhhhh u did it to urself. Heard this qoute, a ship is designed to keep the ocean out. If it let's the ocean in it starts sinking. We too sink when we let the outside world into our internal mind. Obviously we are mortal and are subject to external forces, but most of the time we sink from our minds inner workers rather than physical phenomenon like a tsunami.

Watching this made me cry so much... I really need to be unconditionally happy, but I don't even know what happiness is without achieving a goal or success, I'm so confused... I really need professional help because people get so scared to talk to me because I always act so negative and unhappy, and every time I try "to let go" my brain starts to fry up and I honestly just cry myself to sleep.

You do not need professional help. Confusion is normal when your Nature and Nurture conflict. You have to spend some time understanding how we operate as a species (biologically, pysiologically and psychologically). It doesn't require mastery of such subjects, just a general understanding of them. Once you have this foundation of knowledge in place, you can being to self-evaluate and self-reflect. Doing this will afford you the ability to see why you act/think/feel the way you do... making you aware of your conditioning/acculturation/indoctrination. Giving you back control over yourself and your choices/decisions. Freeing you to act in a manner that is consistent to who you actually are, under all the cause and effect. This is a divergent ideology and you will be viewed as such, you cannot let others influence/manipulate/control you though, because this means that you're a marionette rather than a person. This is a frightening proposition, because it's going to turn your world upside down, it's going to change everything that you think you know about the world. You're going to be very uncomfortable at first and it's going to take a lot of patience... you have years upon years of conditioning to undo, you're going to stumble and fail a lot. Eventually though, you will recondition yourself to be what you want to be, rather than being what others/reality have shaped you to be. Professionals are limited by the same conditioning/acculturation/indoctrination that you currently are limited by, they cannot help you in this type of journey. They will merely influence/manipulate/control you, altering your perception/perspective to better suit the conditioning/acculturation/indoctrination... teaching you to suppress your consciousness/awareness/conscience further, in order to lessen the conflicts between Nature and Nurture within you.

Truth is you have over the years grown away from living in the honest way of reality. That reality is the core (without trying) in our being, existence is very blissful in itself. You have blocked this out, you do this 24/7. Stop trying. Letting go does not need try. Try not to try. Meditation is very unwelcomed for all beginners.

you don't feel sad/cry when your child is rapped because you feel like it's going to change something. You cry and hurt because of empathy, because you love them and are attached to them in a spiritual way. You are feeling what they felt and it's horrific. Happiness is not the only valuable human emotion. It can sometimes bite you in the ass if you choose to be happy at the wrong time. For instance, if someone you love dies or betrays you, you need to accept and show that you are sad or else others won't recognize what's going on and reach out to help. There are appropriate times to be sad. This idea of "unconditional happiness" is like telling people they need to be like robots, and makes the assumption that happiness is the only valuable emotion. Emotions make us human and I'm not ashamed of any of mine.

I just watched 3 of your videos since yesterday and I feel self affirmation. I know i am doing what i am supposed to do to reach self awareness. Yes. Tired of pretending and living a mediocre life.

I can be anywhere doing anything and still be olay with it. so I do still look towards some goals but I wouldnt even care if I stayed in my house for a week without doing shit. ive also tried not to eat for 24 hours in order to test my food adiction and I did completely fine! so it makes me happy to see that Im 19 and I can already be happy without a lot hahaha

Heeey Leo, This is Angel. I'm 47 years old and started watching your videos 3 years ago. You're very inspirational and I appreciate you. For those of you who argue his points-just take what works for you and leave the rest. The first year I focused on your Relationship/Breakup videos because I needed help and strength to get through my divorce and then I moved onto Anger, etc.. I was diagnosed with MS in 2014. At first I thought that was the worst of my problems because I lost everything (businesses, money, home, husband & health). I praised myself on my accomplishments my whole life. My hard work seemed to be making everyone else happy and therefore it gave me (temporary) happiness. But, when I had nothing to give I felt unworthy/ashamed. I became a hermit in my bedroom for a year which didnt help my MS, I fell into a deep depression because I wasnt aware of what else I actually had to offer. During this downtime I found there is more to me and I was worth living for. Even though I didnt know what, when or how, I somehow felt there was Hope.. My whole life has been based on pleasing others over my own needs. I survived on praise and recognition and possibly control. I had no idea who I really was without that. Plus I felt I'd never find anyone to truly love me, (esp. with MS and no income). My journey is not over, in fact it's just begun. I will be Happy during my struggles as long as I focus on my personal self growth including my failures. As I take part in observing my anger I see how HARD I am on myself and Why I set myself up for being unhappy. Little by little I chisel. ha Thanks for allowing me to share. Peace. hugs

I don't understand the child torture example. I seems as if you've completely excluded empathy from the situation. How can someone remain happy when they're vicariously feeling the pain of another person? I suppose you could make the argument that mirror neurons are just a biological safeguard to ensure we protect our species... but a world without empathy sounds very cold in my imagination.

This video changed someones perspective of life in Paris, France. There is no greater miracle that realizing that we have changed for the better, thanks to intense self inquiry and research. Actualized definitely helped me on that path of making my subconscious conscious. I owe Leo Gura a great deal. His videos brought more to my existence than most stuff on youtube that's for sure. Sorry for my broken english, i just wanted to truly thank him (hope this is the place), and encourage people to do self actualisation. Although its painful at times because knowledge and truth about one self can be painful, although that self inquiry causes your life to sit still while you do it (sometimes), there is no greater reward than to have an extended consciousness. "You re not happy because you dont really want to be" is extremely true. We can rot in confort, because of our stupid "shoulds" and the hold ego has on us. Keep on the good work Leo, and sincerely, thank you

You are changing me, to be really me and nothing else, love your videos. This video complete my understanding of happiness. Exactly it connected my view of "path is the goal" and unconditional happiness. For me unconditional happiness is enjoining and doing everything in my life for 100% the best I can, BUT no more and that's important. If I go to gym my goal isn't get 5gk weight in next month or bench 250lbs, but get from me the best I can at the moment and no more. The same when I go with my friend for a couple of beers, the best I can is enjoying the moment, not on phone(facebook etc.), but with good talk and focus to enjoining the company the best way I can. The same with, love, work, depression, sad emotions, failure, if I fail at something I'm happy, because I do my best at that moment and that's important. Even if I somehow start living in a box, I will do it the best possible way I can and enjoying it. This is my not sure if condition or unconditional happiness I'm achieving. Many people aren't even in holiday or with they love 100% relaxed, and enjoining the moment, because their mind is in "what if ...", "I have to do next week ...", "what if I fail ..." and so on. Maybe I don't get it right way, but is the best I can ;). So much thanks for your work Leo.

Ever thought the purpose of life was NOT to be happy? Maybe we're meant to feel the pain, meant to go through ups and downs as there is no such thing. Happiness might be your favorite emotion but does that mean you should just ignore all other feelings? My favorite emotion ain't even to be "happy", it's a kinda deep forgiving and humbling kinda feeling with a touch of nostalgia and also if my kids got raped (not that I have any kids), the last thing I would want is to be happy. I once told my friend I wish there were some movies and games and shit that could make me cry etc, he said I should just be happy that I'm not sad but he simply don't understand life, the stupid fuck lol. If the only thing we did in life is to survive and meditate, sitting in peace and all that, there would be absolutely no reason to be alive at all, you might as well die and become like nothing again. You still have a lot of great teachings like how we should get to the point where we do shit to create and to give rather than to simply "get happy" but the above stuff is still very important -> Happy=/=Fulfilled.
@Tullerman
@Tullerman 8 жыл бұрын
"Oh Lucifer how though hast fallen" - The lightbringer is on the outside, not INspiration from within and that's the problem indeed but that doesn't mean you should always be happy as that would be ignoring half of reality. "Oh Lucifer how though fly up in the heavens and leave everything real behind you..." And then you loose all kind of empathy and compassion -> Compassion = The stuff that holds this universe together :)

I agree. How could you know happiness without knowing pain? Alan Watts talked a lot about this topic, about how people who only chase happiness end up suffering bc there needs to be a balance. Maybe Leo did not mean happiness as we think of it now, but as more of a detachment to any emotions at all.

It's been almost 4 months I've been meditating daily, doing self inquiry. I naturally gravitated towards this "self-actualization" journey after going through a lot of painful heartbreak. Now I'm beginning to understand so much better what you are saying in your videos. How meditation helps us achieve "detachment" from needing anything. I am learning to let go of a lot of things in my life. Most recent thing I let go of is my desire for success and a lot of money. I let go of relationships, friendships, even my 2 cats I gave them away. I am letting go of this desire to have a "rich" lifestyle because I know it won't make me happy anyway. I just want my soul to be at peace that is all.

We feel grief, unhappiness, sadness, fear, hatred, upset, depression, worry, etc. for a reason. It's the mind's way of letting us know something is wrong or needs to be changed. Emotions are a natural part of being human. Have you held your 4 month old child while she dies in your arms because a doctor misdiagnosed her? Have you truly experienced grief? A drop in serotonin so low that constant thoughts of suicide plague your every moment? Unhappiness is a GOOD thing! It makes the moments of happiness that we do experience so much better. Happiness is a complex issue that everyone deal with differently. You cannot speak for everyone. Everyone's brains are different and what might work for you isn't going to work for someone else. You are placing everyone into a cookie cutter form and that isn't fair. Attitude however is a choice. Happiness is not and for those who have such a simple life where happiness can come on with the flip of a switch, I hope you never experience some of the things I have.
@flessested
@flessested 5 жыл бұрын
You didn't understand the message. You can be happy while your 4 month old child dies in your arms, as horrible as that sounds. As if you being unhappy brings your child back to life. As if you need to be unhappy in order to provide the absolute best care for your child. As if you need to be unhappy to do the right thing. Negative emotions is not unhappiness, you can feel negative emotions and still be happy. Happiness is just a bunch of conditional thoughts in your head. At first, when I saw this video, I was scared to let go of my vision of happiness. I thought the exact same thing - unhappiness is GOOD, it makes the good times so much better, it makes me strive for something in my life! The problem though was that I was miserable all the time, even though I was quite successful. So I said 'Fuck it' I'll just do what Leo suggests because my current life is miserable and has always been miserable anyway. What I discovered was, to my shock, is that I am not wasting my life away, as I feared. I am not doing anti-social things, I am not being an asshole or disregarding other people. Quite shockingly, found out that I am actually a decent human being and I don't need these rules to govern my life. I don't need to be unhappy to do the right thing, to pursue what I truly want. I quit my job and cut out a ton of unnecessary things from my life, that I was just doing for the sake of doing. EDIT: and nothing bad happened, I was catastrophizing over nothing. Nothing bad happened. /rant

@Samantha you dont get the authentic point to the message. To truely al acknowledg this, you have to let go of alot of baggage. It is your pe conditioned way of getting to make sense of something that's insensible for your state of perception. Even what Wright now is something you'll take as offensive. We love in a world where we see videos where they say that we are brain washed. And the first thing that comes to mind is "yeah the world is brainwashed but I'm not.' It takes alot thi acknowledge this just because people are overeating from the egos point of wiev. It's the ego that makes decisions. It's our lower preconditioned base of making sense of things. Witches means that it will be possible fir some and impossible fir others to comprehend this message. You only hear his words, but your state of comprehension by the words spoken, side not set root just because. There is a quote'the truth is hidden where everybody can see it" but it dosent matter if you see it if you don't have the capacity to open what's already open. The best way to lie is to use some truth and some lie. This principle goes the same way with aknowledging what Leo says. There is truth. And there is truth, but your lies you tell yourself keeps you on the brink of truly understanding. Sad guru and outher enlightened keyhole often Cris reference, and use metaphors. Ti dumb down and make a deeper understanding to their message, judge because of this. And when they do. Keyhole get the point. And if you make notice like in many ekhart tolles videos as well, laughs, wich is an reason's the mind gives to the body, this laughter is a sign of comprehension. He tells them something they believe they dont know just because they're lower self or ego, and distractions hold us away from what is already in the open. That laugh because they realize the they behind the message, they laugh because that realize they di this them self's. Isn this how comedians also make people laugh? By making you feel like you re lived the story? The difference is that. The tell you the truth. While the comedian tell you lies, or lies and some truth. Or just trurth with a good punchline line. Ignorance is only bliss if you want constitutional happiness.

Then you're playing the victim card. "Happiness is not and for those who have such a simple life where happiness can come on with the flip of a switch" There you go, you said it. Let me tell you a story about my mother, who lived in a Soviet state (Poland) while the cold war was going on. My mother and her family didn't have shit to eat, they didn't have toys, they didn't have normal clothes, they were getting laughed at in school because they didn't have these things, they were humiliated and spat on by people on the streets. My mother even had a miscarriage, and even while we grieved in the moment, we were still happy. See, life is not about pleasure and positivity. Negativity AND positivity comes and goes, and that in my opinion is the premise behind this video. My mother now lives in the Netherlands and she STILL doesn't give a shit about all the materialistic bullshit that comes around. My mother STILL lives humbly, despite of what happened to her as a child, and I can confirm that my mother is the happiest person I have ever seen, despite of everything that happened.

What you’re saying is all about your ego, that you have a very strong sense of self, & your ego is feeling victimised by what Leo is saying. That’s the exact thing your ego would say to keep you in the same comfortable place. You need to detach from your ego & practice enlightenment to really grasp what Leo is talking about. On a core level of the “real” you (not your ego) you should be always unconditionally happy with your life. Realise that your ego (you) is not really (you), it’s just an illusion of who you think you are.
