@ellicel3 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. Adding a second killer was very interesting, but also allowed Joe some genuine “good guy” moments - like letting Theo live. That’s a little dangerous because by the end the audience is rooting for him to win against Love even though him getting away means he’s free to take more innocent lives. He’s not going to have an epiphany and turn himself in; he’s going to keep killing. I think it’s important to keep a focus on how evil he is so that when he is finally stopped it won’t feel like your guy lost, but that justice was done.
@alexman3783 жыл бұрын
@@ellicel Yeah, but Joe has shown a clear pattern; he’s not attacking people indiscriminately, only if they get in the way. Theo wasn’t in his way, nor was he a threat to him since he was about to pin everything on Love and fake his own death, and he clearly didn’t care at all for Love by that point, so her cheating on him with Theo wasn’t an issue with him. Love is more impulsive because she always had a safety net with the family fixer taking care of everything, so she never really had to plan things through.
@alecbona45493 жыл бұрын
I was thinking something similar. It became very obvious that Joe is always looking for "the next big thing" which in his case means looking for someone he thinks will make him happy that ultimately doesn't. He has this idea in his head but once he gets what he wants it doesn't quite measure up. And that's always gonna be his problem. It's also quite obvious he has borderline personality disorder. Love, at least to me, was just your garden variety psychopath with little to no regard for anyone but herself. One could easily argue that Joe acts out of self preservation as well but it feels different with him

They always say "if we don't see the body, they're alive" and I know that technically we do see Love's body here, but it's done in such a way that, if they wanted to bring her back at some point, I think they could. Honestly, I was ready to see her take over the show as the new narrator, especially after they teased her inner monologue on the episode she has talking to Forty. But obviously the last three episodes had her turn "too psychotic" for people to root for. But the fact that she was such a great character made it that much more powerful to see her die (if she actually did die).
@danharpersberger41283 жыл бұрын
I agree, but why do you think she didn't die?
@alisalander3 жыл бұрын
@@danharpersberger4128 ok, so: 1. She says that she knows him better than anyone several times this season, and she DOES know him. When Joe was having sex with Sherry, Love realized THE SECOND he started thinking about someone else. It makes sense to think that she realized he knew about her plan. 2. She doesn't trust him. She says that the only reason she's alive is because of Henry and, even when they are happy, she hides a key in the cage. If that's how much she trusts him even when they are working together and improving...it makes sense to think that by the end she must have known he was thinking about killing her, so she might have taken adrenaline just in case. 3. We don't see the flames reach her. We see the oven and kitchen tops on fire, but when the scene ends the fire is not touching her body. It would have been so powerful and sad to see a moment of her body in the middle of the fire, but somehow they decided not to show us? (and here's where the whole "if we don't see the body, they're not dead" comes into play) 4. Joe says the found the remains of two bodies...but we know they should have found the remains of three! Love's body, Joe's toes and Natalie's teeth. The toes and teeth are not gonna move by themselves, so if they really only found the remains of two bodies, then Love must have left. Only possible explanation.

Is no one else bothered by how much the show could be interpreted in a wrong way because it is narrated by Joe? In this review, you talked about Joes and Loves ending as if they were just another tragic couple when in reality both of them are sick to the bones. Throughout the season we've been told by Joe that Love is the manipulitive one, that she is the problem, and the show genuenly frames it all on her to the point where I was conflicted if I should root for Joe or keep my distance. You also mentioned how Joe was much more cool-headed in his murders which to me sounded a bit like deffending him, or comparing it to Love in a positive way. Both of them are horrific but sadly I empathize with Joe, even though I rationally know I shouldn't. But all this makes me wonder how the general public has been fed with documentaries that romanticize serial killers and shows that romanticize toxic relationships and makes me question how all this looks in the eyes of the average viewer. I'm very scared that many take it on a surface level and just enjoy all the drama... I could compare this with Lolita because both are narrated by a horrible person, but in this case people don't seem to be as much bothered with all that Joe has done, Joe is made much more amicable and loveable and I hate that. Murdering a bunch of people, stalking and obsessing over others and manipulating is just as disgusting as Humbert's behaviour but I feel like that lacks recognition. (although it might be unfair to compare a cheap show meant to get you excited to mastery of Nabakovs writing, i still think it's problematic)

Yeah, I felt kinda weirdly satisfied when Joe killed the ex-husband. In a way it was framed like he deserved it, he was cheating the law, neglecting his child, taking drugs. Meanwhile Love's murders felt unnecessary, rushed, just pure insanity sometimes. I guess they really gave a lot more time and reasons for Joe to kill, so that we sympathize with his crimes, which they did not do to Love. But I'm hoping (haven't read the books yet of course so I have no idea) that there is an ending coming, that will show us, that even though Joe was an abused child and went through hell - that doesn't not legitimize murder and he needs to be stopped.
@drfifteenmd75613 жыл бұрын
@@michaelbruh6157 Joe kept saying, "Never again, no killing for Henry." Yet selfishly he does it again for another woman, meaning his priorities weren't straight. Sure, he gave up Henry, but I view it as him beginning his journey of truly finding out what love is. Unless he rationalized it in the end as what he wanted for himself as a child instead of it majorly being what truly would be good for Henry himself. Especially since as he says he'll come back for him yet continues on his psycho journey to chase after someone else he admits to obsessing over. I felt that Joe was way more creepy than Love and was therefore able to empathize with Love more in her murders. Joe's backstory and motives sounded like excuses to take easy ways out of eliminating perceived obstacles to his object of desire. Objects. Love was more genuine, and loyal which is why she consistently fought so hard for others she cared for. That's why her crimes usually seemed so impulsive. She saw the darkness in others and helped fight against it or nurtured it if they wanted it to be. She's a fixer-upper. At her core, it's easier to see that Love tried more to be a good and loving person, yet people who genuinely put her and her loved ones (using that word unironically) at risk kept trying her regardless. Joe's words exactly, "I understand why she did it, not excusing it, but I understand it." See: the anti-vaxxer who khs after almost deceasing Henry and realizing stuff about his own family He's felt distant from the moment he said he didn't feel a connection to his child and could only have a need to protect him after projecting his sense of "noble duty" onto him, he only saw Henry as someone he can use selfishly by viewing him through lens he views himself. We only view things through Joe's perspective when we don't stop to think about what he narrates and what the show presents to us. Often times it clashes so we pick a side and since we're familiar with Joe, we choose to believe what he has to say despite knowing full well he's delusional. We're blinded to how despicable he is, I agree. That illusion indefinitely broke for me the moment he said, "you did that to yourself" as he killed the mother of his child and chased after the girl who left him after hearing he killed somebody for her. He doesn't self-reflect, just puts the blame on others. It's conveniently/ironically the person most similar to him he says that line to, because again, he refuses to self-reflect. I'm really hoping he bites the dust next season after finally, truly realising that lmao

@@drfifteenmd7561 I disagree in regard to seeing more love narration, the show is from Joes perspective and you’re supposed to only see his bias and it’s up to us to recognise when he’s being a hypocrite and out of line; this is why the show is so good because it puts the decision on the viewer as to how much they emphasise with Joe and if they are looking to spot his flaws or if they are instead trying to look for justification. It’s always been about Joe, kind of an undertone for the whole show. It’s always made out that Joe has justification for his killings as well as everything else whereas Love doesn’t

Some off-topic: I actually love and hate binge watching at the same time. I hate it because a season that could entertain for weeks and keep you guessing after each episode just becomes a huge bloat that destroys your sleeping cycle. The problem is: i cant help it. When a season i really like is released in one go, i tend to binge it. The temptation is just too strong, especially with the autoplay nature of Netflix. I wish Netflix would just release one episode each week or at least one each day, so we can actually absorb every single episode with much more detail and passion, instead of concluding the whole season after just one day. I do want Joe to live but in prison or for him to be killed in a dramatic kind of way when the show officially ends. Anyway, Love and Joe are both psychotic, they just do things differently. One of them was going to kill the other. Also why doesn't anyone get Theo was only around because he gave Love attention and reminded her of her brother. Love was too unhinged. The last third of the season was them trying to clean up Love's mess of blurting out her murderous confession right in the middle of a sexcapade with Sherry and Cary. She's self-destructive and stupid! Joe 'only' murdered Ryan while Love murdered Natalie, Ned Flanders, and schemed to kill Merrienne, Sherry, Cary, Joe and Theo, without any planning whatsoever. I honestly thought this season was terrible. There was no point to anything. Love killed the neighbor because she thought they were having an affair but nothing even happened between them. Then she kills the non vaccinated guy because his kids gave measles to her son even though he was fine? Then she for some reason cheats with a 19 year old and then starts plotting to kill joe because he’s doesn’t like her anymore? Like obviously he’s not gonna like her because he’s trying to be normal and she’s the one killing everyone for no reason and cheating on him. The whole season was about them trying to fix their marriage when they both knew it wasn’t going to work from the start. The ending really bothered me too. I thought the part about Love dying was good but I just did not get why he left the baby with his neighbors. Joe seems to be doing really well for himself in Paris and if he loved his kid that much, why didn’t he just take him with him to Paris? The whole flashbacks built it up like he was trying to be better for his kid and be a good father but he just leaves him with someone else? Also Idk what he thinks is going to happen with Mariam. She obviously hates him now for lying to her about their marriage and she knows that he murdered her ex. Also this season was 10 hours long and there were just so many pointless plot lines that were really not needed at all like why did the neighbor start checking all the security cameras? Like did he not read what happened to his wife? Also what was up with Loves mom and the vineyard? Then why did shary and her husband even exist? They literally did nothing for the plot. If you take them out of the story it would still be the same season. Overall, this was a huge downgrade from the previous two seasons.

People keep pointing out that Marienne and Joe had zero chemistry and them not liking the couple and to that I say that is the point. Joe was looking for an excuse out of his relationship with Love and Marienne is a woman in a very vulnerable place who latched onto Joe in spite of her gut instinct that Joe is not good for her. Also, remember how fast Joe latched onto his neighbor and then dropped his obsession with her the minute he realized she thought he was a boring dude. Marienne's relationship with Joe just shows how irredeemable Joe is. He won't change. He lives for the hunt but doesn't want to admit it to himself.

@FIDEL_CASHFLOW_3 жыл бұрын
This season was extremely mediocre for me. They tried to do way too much with far too little time in there for everything simply felt rushed. They also have failed to introduce anything new that had any substance to it. It's just the same old tired plot points of people being locked in the glass cage then Joe and love have to figure out what to do with them, rinse and repeat. The wanton killing of so many people at the drop of a hat just made me roll my eyes at how ridiculous the whole thing was. Yes, love is psychotic. We get it. You don't have to have her kill one person every other episode. They also killed Nicole way too quickly. She was on screen for like 30 minutes and then boom, she's dead. I just have no idea where they are going to go for season 4. The fact that Joe is now in Paris might make for a compelling change of pace but if it just ends up being him finding yet another woman at a bookshop or a grocery store who is surrounded by problematic people that he has to systematically eliminate in order to get to her, I'm going to lose my shit. We've done that for three seasons now. Give us something new and refreshing. It's ironic that Joe waxed philosophical about the chekov's gun literary device when we had a chekov's gun situation in the form of the neighbor with all the surveillance and it didn't really make much of a difference at all. His lawyers came and told him to delete everything and he never got to confront Joe and love. That gun never really went off which I find ironic. Yes, I understand that Theo kept a copy and used it to confront love but it lasted 2.5 seconds, he got a bump to the head, and he's fine. If anything, that chekovs gun misfired. Also this season requires a ridiculous amount of suspension of disbelief. There's a lot of problematic elements that make absolutely no logical sense in this season but the biggest one was people saying that Joe died in that fire because they found a couple of his toes there. Practically anything short of a nuclear detonation is going to leave some sort of corporeal evidence. Even when bodies get cremated, the bones are still left and they have to be ground down into a powder. Veteran fire investigators wouldn't just look around the wreckage, not find Joe's body, throw their hands up in the air and say "well I guess he's good and disintegrated. Weird how we found two of his toes in good enough of a state to identify them as coming from his body but his body is nowhere to be found. Oh well, let me sign the death certificate so I can go home and catch the game". Not to mention that they found Love's body in that same fire that we are supposed to believe that fire investigators believe that his body disintegrated in.

Love was not chaotic and out of control. Watching Joe gaslight love over and over again was excruciating. Watching Joe be absent as a husband emotionally was heartbreaking. To believe that Joe's killing people was just means that you have a warped mind and perception. There were three instances where Joe lied about Natalie. Joe had no reason as a married man to try to entertain other women. If he didn't want to be in the marriage the logical thing to do would be to leave go somewhere safe and have your lawyer send the divorce papers. But here's the thing Joe isn't logical at all. Love could have entertained the 19-year-old boy emotionally but she was committed to her husband. While he was out killing for another woman she was killing to protect their marriage and their relationship. To deny that Joe wasn't a problem is a very incorrect thing to do. He has a pattern he has a track record. I'm not excusing any of the things that love did but it's because they were crimes of passion is what separates her from being a methodical killer. Joe is technically a serial killer while she's an unapologetic murderer. When she kills that man for giving their child the measles Joe agreed with her he literally says I would have done the same thing. This is where we blatantly see that Joe and love are two sides of the same coin. He also continues to manipulate love in a very unforgiving way. He decided that his self need was more important than that of his child and the woman who had just given birth to his child. If Joe had a real connection with that child he would have found safer means to separate knowing who love was. There were more logical ways to work these things out but Joe chose not to.
@kamalnewson16253 жыл бұрын
Love was chaotic and out of control. People tend to forget that she was never happy in the marriage either and always tried to blame joe for it, gaslighting him when, in reality, she needed to fuel her savior/protecter complex hence Theo. You gotta look at the show objectively. For example, Joe only kissed Natalie and elected to not go further for the sake of his marriage, then love kills her bc of that. But then she kisses Theo but wants to hide it from joe bc she thinks joe would kill him. Which he doesn’t. In regards to Gil, I don’t believe that Joe would have killed Gil and he was just saying what he wanted Love to hear as you see him do that all the time in the show. Rather than highlighting who was more evil i think the show was highlighting the differences between a psychopathic murderer (Joe) and a sociopathic murderer (Love)
@sherayperry28423 жыл бұрын
@@kamalnewson1625 the only reason why Joe does not kill Theo is because he no longer has feelings for his wife. For you to suggest that doing anything outside of your marriage is okay is a serious problem. Let's not forget that both of them got married to protect each other's secrets. Yes true enough both of them weren't happy but love was willing to make it work and in reality Joe could have made love happy and we got to see glimpses of him pretending to make her happy manipulating her mind with his behavior. Love asked Joe in three different instances if he was interested in another woman and if he was sleeping with the neighbor and Joe lied three different times before love killed Natalie. Love was never out of control. Realistically her husband was supposed to be there to validate her and make her feel loved and safe. Now let's examine the fact that love just had a baby the woman's body changes an abundance of hormones is going through her right now and the baby isn't even walking yet before Joe decides to look at another woman but that's okay let's excuse regular science and protect Joe's Insanity because at this point Joe has killed a lot of people for his own personal gain. It is not Joe's job to play judge jury and executioner with whomever he chooses. That's not how the law works. And Joe had to get control of his killings Candice beck peach Benji and then the neighbor. You guys also forgot that we are all watching everything from Joe's perspective the job of his character is to romance us as well which is why we all fall in love with Joe and we follow him and we ignore the things that he's doing that's bad. We are convinced that love was bad because Joe convinced us because the whole show is mostly based on his dialogue and being inside his head. Your job as the viewer is to take a step outside of what Joe is thinking and what we are seeing as far as his perception.

@@kamalnewson1625 and let's not ignore that love didn't kill Marianne because love does actually have a heart she sees her child she realizes in that moment that Joe is the villain truly and that he would be a problem for every woman that he sets his sights on and he has been a problem for every woman that he sets his sights on he either comes with baggage or crazy obsessive behavioral tendencies cut it out don't be simple.

As much as the show wants to paint her as more evil and impulsive, I think that just gives into the glorification of white male murderers going on these days (like all the people who are obsessed with Ted bundy). She, just like Joe, found ridiculous reasons to kill for the pursuit of love. Don't fall for the fact that he had "reasons", because his history shows otherwise. Joe is also impulsive in the fact that he jumps from woman to woman. He's impulsive in his obsession to find "true love" which he will never be satisfied with. He will always kill for that pursuit. Love imploded in her own psychosis and trying to keep up with his emotional manipulation. So as much as the show wants to paint her as "more evil", he's truly neck and neck with her. I hate that this season has anyone comparing who is more evil at all too, and it's become a men vs women thing.

I was so excited for what was gonna happen when I realized that Joe getting hooked on Natalie at the end of Season 2 was just a cop out until Joe's real crush came to be with Marianne. Great season. While I did expect some things like: Theo and Love having an affair, Theo surviving, someone getting locked in the cage (duh) and Love dying, I've gotta say it was never at that point where you'd say: Saw it coming a mile away. Simply because you could never quite figure out when or how it was gonna happen. It still felt satisfying when it did actually happen.

Season 1 is the best because it's the most close to the book version. Season 2 and 3 are more soap opera because they changed the story to fit that formate. They completely deviate from the book. Spoilers. Love isn't a killer. Forty is killed by Joe. Joe is caught by the police. It's really a whole new story.

What do u mean that season 4 is setup to be like what season 2 was when it first aired (also did u know that this series is based on a book series & that this season was completely original & separated from the source material. Love wasn’t a killer in the books. However it does look like they can now adapt the third book in season 4 where Joe was put into jail for a bit then left love & his child & became obsessed w a new “You” in Mary Kay) I liked season 3 & I like the complexity that came w Love being a mirror image of Joe & I find it fitting that he fell out of love w her once he found that out (almost as if it would mean something about himself! mmmmm :) can’t wait for season 4

My gut feeling tells me she will return, there’s definitely an easter egg in episode one- the three book titles 📚 borrowed by the neighbour while Joe’s watching : The fifth season , Gone Girl and Seabiscuit - are the writers telling us she will possibly comeback in a future season ? If you look each plot theme of these three books: A. The fifth season : Disaster, Violence, and Survival B. Gone girl : Dishonesty , Manipulation , Marriage , Media , Misogyny. C. Seabiscuit : While Red breaks his leg, Seabiscuit tears his leg's ligaments. But after partially recovering from their injuries, Red and Seabiscuit get back on the racing. 🤷🏻♂️ Unless Victoria wants to pursue other projects and have had her fair share of ´YOU’

The ending feels very sad. I thought they would learn to become better persons or trust each other and become partner in crime.

I rewatched all 3 season over the week and I list it best to worst 1, 2, 3. The element that really got me hooked strongly in season 1 little bit 2 that lacked in season 3 was Joe's "love at first sight" triggering his manipulative side. Season 3 both love interests made the first move to trigger Joe. It felt out of Joe's character for him not to do his full manipulation to get the girl. No chase. He was able to restrain himself when he had Natalie, for the best since it sounds she was just looking for f buddy labeling Joe the "boring neighbor". With Marienne only her initial flirting seem to be the trigger for Joe's interest. Dare I say it was too easy, the lack of his chase makes this relationship not even interesting. Seems more of an excuse to retreat from a marriage with Love who's character completely is 180'd like she has no traces of her character in season 2 besides her big twist side. But love did mention she has always was this way you were just seeing me as a fantasy Which leads me to think that we get the story of Joe's love interests from Joe's fantasy. As if Joe is more interested in chasing the best love story instead what's real. Blinded by his fantasy we will never get whats real up front. Seeing his love interests as only fantasy, it's inevitable he lose interest when he sees the real them. The series ends one way Joe must die... But seriously I give this season 6/10 It let me to say often to the character wtf is this, wtf is going on, and f theo!

Great season. Overall great show. We are invested in the actors. Is gonna be tuff to replace Victoria who plays Love in the show. Hopefully she is still alive. They never mention that they found a body. So they left us with a room of interpretation. I love the Sherry couple, it bring some comedy elements to the show. The scenes they were in the cage was gold. 😂 Can’t wait for season 4. I don’t mind if they don’t bring Love back until season 5. Maybe she still recovering from the fire or maybe she have a facial reconstruction and we see her getting revenge. I know one Korean drama with that storyline I forgot the name. But if they go this route damn that would be a good twist and a good storyline. 👍 But if I’m not correct You is based on a novel right? So the next adaptation is probably gonna follow the novel. Overall I want to see how this story ends with Joe. I want to see it to the end.

Yeah, I liked season 3, but there was so much extra going on in it that I did not care about. All that extra romantic and family drama is not why I came to love the show

I really liked this season. Love and Joe are the heroes, you want to root for them but at the same times I wanted them to face the consequences of their actions so bad. They're so hypocritical, you love to hate them. Joe become distasteful of Love because he sees himself through her, yet he's like “he has good reasons to kill” when Love is just “impulsive and driven by her emotions”. They're basically the same, Joe is just more experienced and act like he has some moral compass Love lacks. I also liked how this season, the murders affected genuinely good people. It really puts into perspective the actions of Joe and Love.

im sure theres gonna be spoilers in the comments but, spoiler warning: these were the things that bugged me this season. joe falls in love with someone JUST BC they were both fosters as children and he KNOWS he has mommy issues but still goes out of his way to be with her???? what the fuck lol love keeps killing people and i feel as if thats her secret kink. she bit her lip when discussing with joe on what they should do with the conrands and im like bro nows not the time and theo had the dumbest change in ep 9. he told his dad to move on from the situation yet he keeps looking into it?? i understand love was playin him but im sure he knew that lol. this season was all over the place imo

The ending was weird, he lay on the floor pretending he is paralyzed, but why he still lay there when she left , even when the neihgbor came. The plot happened just to give us shock value. Why he fell for MArienne, well.. I'd say pretty, organized, a little mystery, he was bored and suffocating by neurotic Love and wanted some distraction?

Overall it’s a 9/10 season. The only reasonable criticism I see about this season is that it is to chaotic (which isn’t a flaw for everyone) and that Love died. I get that she is a great character but she went out like a boss, and remember she isn’t the main character.

Joe is such an fucking hypocrite to make Love feels like she’s crazy. Moreover, he was irritated me for falling in love with every damn skirt that comes close to him while he could instead be a better husband to Love who would do anything for him despite his deepest dark side. Then he has the nerve to say that Love was not his soulmate & always saying that he would do anything for every females he met. It like the same shit over & over again. BTW he’s my favorite character in the show.

I enjoyed this season but it felt less focused or something. Also wish Speedman's character had more screentime and development. Him lurking in the shadows was intriguing at first but they could have honestly done away with his son entirely and had him be more of a focus. Good season but the weakest of the 3 imo.
