I don't want to do it... but we have some major differences of opinion on politics.

Dare I say a lot of American critics have missed the mark on this one? I feel like some of the isolationist culture so prevalent in my home country have caused many people to mistake some of the non-action focused parts to be boring or unnecessary. That perspective dismisses a lot of the cultural subtext and even text that is so relevant to the rest of the film. Moving abroad has really allowed me to appreciate international films more fully. I hope this will inspire people to dig deeper and expand their horizons. I loved this so much.

I think this is a really fair perspective and I’m really glad you enjoyed the film

I saw this earlier today and it was flipping brilliant! I was sitting a little too close to the screen so at some points things were a bit too shaky? I really liked how it opens the audience's mind to aspects of Indian culture you might not know about; it really felt like the city was ALIVE with all of these different factions of people! It barely felt like two hours, with rarely a dull moment which kept me glued to the screen!!! The action was SO fun to watch! It was REALLY satisfying when the boss lady was dispatched, but the main military guy just didn't really get a satisfying demise for me? I didn't care for the leader bloke either but he certainly had a better death scene!!! 10/10 would watch again and again!!!

@@Joe_Brennan_ I hope Dev Patel makes 10 more of these movies and Bobby Kid or whatever the character’s name is becomes as iconic as John Wick or Jason Bourne

Just watched this film yesterday with m Indian partner. It's so nice to see a brown film actually made for brown audiences, the attention to detail was incredible with Hindu stories and the Hijra. My partner and I LOVED it an we're not normally fans of the action genre.

Nice review! Yhara Zayd and you both put out videos about Monkey Man. After watching them I think I’ll give it a chance. I was hesitant because professional critics’ reviews are pretty mixed. Thanks (also for the monkey puns 😂)!

I watched monkey man yesterday and gxk the day before, and I can't tell if it was because of comparison but monkey man was insanely good, and such a good pallate cleanser after the two hour cgi slap fight between extremely large animals(making them all look normal sized)

The monkey mask is criminally underused, especially after he bleached it 😂 film is extremely good tho
@Joe_Brennan_9 ай бұрын
It’s very funny that there’s a big bleaching moment and the birth of the movie’s proper iconography and then they go “no, his face is better”

@@Joe_Brennan_ yeah he doesn't even wait to get in the room with the guys he's after, just whips the mask off as soon as he sees some goons to fight 😂

(Saw the film, enjoyed it. One of those where the violence from our protagonist is stark but always feels justified within the film's context, never gratuitous.)
