A great inspiration for me was goth culture. So much texture can give you a richer, more interesting outfit than just using regular fabrics with regular cuts. Lace, transparency, leather, chains, velvet, satin, latex, silk, chiffon, pleats, straps, studs, ribbon, tartan, faux fur. I started wearing mostly black at 11, I'm 30 now so it's a lot of time. Black is endless, unique, anonymous, pious, sexy, mysterious, and a very easy color to find in cold weather. If you have a beautiful feature in your body, show it by framing the feature, fitting the fabric around the area, a cut out can drag attention to it. As a teenager, my favorite was mini skirts and corsets, vest and belts to accentuate my waist. Now I have a full chest and very pale skin and is nice to have different necklines to cut in half the volume but also accentuate the softness of the flesh. Conclusion: JQ, show me your waist.

This hit me as well. I wear all black, but with a lack of detail, contrast and/or textures. Unlike some Chinese fashion students in my area, its all black but different shades, cuts. I don't think anyone's all black wardrobe sucks, just that they havent thought about pulling it off right.

Ive definetely been stuck in a rut the past few month of always just wearing all black because its simple, looks clean and gives off a unique vibe no other color or shade can. I used to participate in theatre work and thats when I started wearing all black. I am no longer a backstage crew but I still kept my wardrobe mainly black. Black is just easy but elegant and sophisticated imo especially when you really look into it, textures, layering, even different kinds of black helps create good all black outfit.

Great video. I'm an all black lover. I like to think I own it. I find so much more satisfaction in my outside of work wear as I can create more layers. Accessories and layering are key for me and also pieces with a difference, edge. Eg a dramatic sleeve. I also like to thrift my pieces. Wearing all black makes thrifting a lot easier as you go for that one colour and it goes with everything else you have. I do have some colour but when I'm in all black I am in my element and feel damn sexy. Of course fit/silhouette is a major things as well. I prefer a more figure hugging and classic look, vintage-esque almost. But I also pine for victorian goth outfits. Thank you for your video, I really enjoyed it and the fact I do get compliments on my all black outfits really makes me feel like I own it.

Just like with most other skills, if you're aiming to be just alright at it, you can use a few simple rules of thumb, and it takes you a lot further than not using any thought or "rules" at all. I think these kinds of advice you mentioned work well for people who would like to put minimal effort and thought into their outfits, and are simply aiming to go from unwearable outfits to wearable ones. No more and no less. With cooking you could tell people who only want to cook something edible, "always salt your eggs", and then leave it at that. But if you want to make more interesting flavours, or you want it to go well with a certain dish, you could get more creative and use e.g fish sauce instead of salt. But that isn't easily applied to every time you're cooking eggs. Of course salting your ingredients isn't all there is to cooking, and I think that goes for most things. You can always dive deeper, but most people are not going to.

I find that having a mostly black wardrobe allows me to get more use out of my expensive designer pieces. When building an outfit, you have to be cognizant of the texture, silhouette, and color of the individual pieces as they come together to form a cohesive whole. I find that buying an expensive piece in color limits the outfits you can build with it. By building a mostly black wardrobe, I can invest in cool pieces that I can build lots of outfits out of. I'd love to dress like wisdm, but even if I had his talent (which I don't), realistically you have to be loaded to have a wardrobe like his.

When I got into designer clothes I realized the same thing that I’d rather have darker clothes to mix and match easier or more often than to get a certain color and only use them for one specific outfit/color. Cheaper clothing yeah I don’t care as much about color and throw w/e together as long as it looks ok enough, but when it’s time to style up I want really nice clothes that I have no problem customizing with.

I almost always wear black pants combined with either a band shirt or long sleeve band tee or a more neutral colored shirt and usually wear a black bracelet as well along with a pair of grand courts. most of what I wear is black. During the winter I wear a black packaalong with the usual black pants and shoes. For me it just started as a work wear thing since most of the jobs I have had have required me to wear black pants and this just kinda became part of my look

The only black clothes i have are jeans and t-shirts. Those t-shirts are mostly t-shirts of thrash metal and death metal bands i really like with cool artworks and sick names. I got inspired by 80s-90s thrash metal outfit (jeans jacket, band t-shirt, jeans and high cut sneakers) and i kinda want to branch off and wear something like hoodies and jackets. Unfortunately, living in Malaysia is quite a pain because it can get really hot in here. I would get sweaty wearing thick and layered clothes even at night.

Honestly Black's rather not a depressing colour, but it's just different A person who can wear black on black AND CLEARLY differentiate the layers- and In a way work everything out that's something you can't do with monochrome and random colour match spectrum From afar Black's just nothing more than a pitch black ,but what makes it different is all the shades ,gradients and design match up that one can only observe from up close That's what makes people to be invested in your style

I dont know man, just put on an entire all black outfit just crafted by the same 3/4 high fashion brands (Rick Owens, Margiela, Yohji Yamamoto, Balenciaga ecc.) it isn't the right way to create your own style with the color black I've seen it a lot of times Guys on socials/influencers that feeling good and superior just cuz they are following this wave of "darkwave" of the fashion world In a way really easy to do Just buying from the same few high level brands, the most expensive ones, and sometimes wear a single brand for an entire outfit That's not style in my opinion, it's just a lazy way to build something to keep the eyes on you, but without any passion of what do you want to communicate with that outfit There are different ways to ""own"" this fantastic color, and the tag or the name of the brand that you wear don't make you better in owning the color black I wear all black for quite a while and most of my wardrobe is build by mid level fashion brands (even if i can easily buy high fashion pieces) Cuz in them there is my personal flavors mixed with the color black For example, my metalhead/blackster vibe in clothes (full of rings, necklaces, patches on leather jacket), or my western vibe (hats and texan boots), or my techwear side can hardly match with the designs of brands like Margiela or Balenciaga or Yohji Yamamoto Even with the color black as a link between them So is my style to be considered inferior to those who instead decide to wear those high fashion brands? Fashion is subjective because every person has their own perspective. But some perspectives become more universally agreed upon, and that is for tangible reasons you can point to. Saying fashion or beauty is “just subjective” or opinion is often used as a way to dismiss the world’s opinion of you so you don’t feel bad about yourself. Many people do this subconsciously.

thats actually a good question, i think we could say we get conditioned into thinking wearing all black equates to being a waiter. The thing is its how the person really wears the color, with uniforms we see a consistency in fabrics. Pants and a shirt is the usual combo but if we add other layers we get something almost unrecognizable from that attire.

when i said its hard to brick an all black outfit that doesn't mean i meant that their good i showed examples of very mid fits. Wearing an all black outfit is simple but that doesn't take away from what i said of those outfits being mid they lack the other elements because people just stop at pants shoes and shirt. I think it's kinda in the same way that it's hard to cook potatoes really badly. If you overboil a potato it's still edible, you take a bite of just unseasoned overboiled potato, it's mid. But then if you skillfully apply many elements of cooking to the same ingredient, you could instead make delicious perfectly-crispy well-seasoned french fries with heavenly dip. S-tier taste.
