I don't compare myself to other people and where they are at right now. I compare myself to a grander scale understanding of all the various paths a person can take, and where those should lead, in what amount of time. The more I do this, the more comfortable I feel with where I'm at now, and the easier it is to make gradual improvements.

Well said. A lot of people seem to think life has a linear progression and then compare themselves to others as if everyone had the same starting point. The reality is life can go in any direction, and any direction can be a beautiful positive experience. But most importantly not everyone's "square one" is in the same spot.

I like how you talked about a very important topic of tackling your “negative” emotions from a place of compassion At 28:20 you talked about how loneliness is something we try to ignore and hide under the rug, but if stead you listened to it and tried to understand it you would see that all that emotion wants is to have its need meet then it would leave you alone, or in this instance become happy like you said. This is all like the shadows that Carl Jung talks about, and this is one way to integrate them.

As a neurodivergent person the "live with awareness" and "live intentionally" look great on paper, but in practice lead to overwhelm and burn out. And that makes me feel not so great, getting me in a negative spiral. As you've mentioned, as I'm still around apparently I've managed to get myself out of these. But I'm constantly anxious about the next one lurking around the corner. To top it all with: I'm not always capable of identifying my emotions and needs (anhedonia), or not immediately, which makes it hard to get them met.

To add to these here, the same wrong approach is often spread in most churches about: like, instead of saying one, his sick (in this case truly sick e.g cancer) say you're well and believe it... many have since died because of this doing nothing to seeking medical help instead. 🧚♀️

Someone said that self esteem is a misnomer. I think it was Sam Vaknin. I think it’s more like an oxymoron because esteem can’t come from within. Self esteem and self confidence are related terms. Etymology of the word confidence: con means with and fidelity means trust. You build confidence when you earn the trust of others. When your boss or your parent signals that they don’t believe in you, it erodes your self confidence and esteem.
@mylegguy81152 ай бұрын
It does come from within. You can’t have your self esteem based on the external because if those material things are gone then you’re left with yourself, and guess what you won’t like it. It comes from within and then it is outwardly into the world. That’s how it works. But you gotta take action along with your mental progression.

This are some of my thoughts and maxims that have helped me improve in the feelings discussed here. 1. Love yourself it's not the same as treat yourself with love. For me beginning to treat myself like I would treat my best friends or loved ones have propelled my growth and steadiness in difficult situations. 2. Define yourself in as loose terms as possible. Don't limit yourself with stereotypes or terms like. I am a scientist or I am an artist. Because I find that then you feel cognitive dissonance when even considering deviating from your own definition of yourself. Keep your self image blurry, don't worry about who you are, worry about what you do, what your values are and where are you trying to get to. 3. Self reflection, consciousness and mindfulness. You can't understand yourself unless you let yourself experience all your feelings. Stop whatever you are doing and relax, exercise, go for a walk or meditate. Sit and ponder about your situation, how things made you feel and try to figure why. You will go deep. Meditation is a great way of getting your brain to hit you with your trauma and feeling as if you were suddenly illuminated by the cosmos. Practice it, learn to do it, it will get easier over time. As everything, it is difficult to find the path to better places, the key is to take it as a game, explore yourself and others, face the fear of changing your life, and explore your oldest dreams and passions. You will be surprised at how far you can reach. Buena suerte, wish you all the best.

@@vivvy_0 the nature of exploration can feel overwhelming, as we venture to places we are not familiar with. To face this the explorer attempts to calm herself down, looks out into the world instead of into herself, and with the calm that every situation can be dealt with one way or the other proceeds in the direction she finds best. When she discovers that said direction did not take her to the place she wanted to be in she proceeds to explore the other paths, as she knows that the real value it's in the act of exploration more than in the place said exploration leads to.

I've always felt that narcissism is a compensation for a more deeply submerged and profound self-loathing. The same is true for bullying in my experience, but for insecurity rather than self-loathing. This is why you cant necessarily rely on interviews or questionairres that so often predominate psychological literature/data. A close observer of humans would see plainly that a narcissist does not have genuine love for themselves. If they did, they would be able to offer genuine love for others. Love is a connecting force, it is not synonymous with an inflated ego. Trying to make bullies or narcissists feel bad as a way of correcting their behavior is unlikely to be very productive, unless you first repair their wounded relationship to self which is likely to take deep trauma and attachment healing work. When they have a secure base of inherent worth and value, they are more able to genuinely explore the ways their behavior is affecting others and for guilt to be a productive emotion.

Haven't finished video yet, but this is why I strive for self acceptance, I don't need self love, but self honestly... acceptance of myself the good and bad

🐉🐬👀 Love your channel! I'm from Brazil, passing through a lot of bad things right now and your video became very useful to understand some things and deal with it in a healthier way. Thanks a lot!

🐉🐬What a great video, you addressed all my doubts about self esteem, perfectionism, narcissism, values, assertiveness, how it fits together. Gonna be working through this one, if I beat my perfectionism which says I gotta do all of these other things first

Ego is not my enemy it's part of the human being that I live in. But my ego works for me much as a horse and I'm the rider who has control of his horse.

Good affirmations dont bypass, they dont state obvious lies, they begin where it's possible to find an access point.

So that’s where that came from!!!!!!!! I’m a California native!!!! That moment has done sooooo much damage! In the 80’s I was already out of high school and in my early 20’s. I didn’t have a clue!

This really changes how we think about self esteem.

Thanks for the unique style of conveyance. Good and bad advice is a mixed bag out there, but it seems too much good advice typically gets said one way without explanation.

🐲🐬🐘 Great video, so well explained. My key takeaway is that self esteem is learned behaviour and we can always make small steps to improve. With two main risks: (1) not taking action and not starting a positive spiral, (2) becoming overly positive leading to narcissistic tendencies

I should have been doing my simulations class assignment, but I am glad I watched this instead. i think I kinda already knew most of those things but I never actually realized them, as it wasn't spoken out. Thank you so much for this video, I really needed it exactly now.

Finally subscribed. Love your voice, and your sense of humor, and your lovely take on psychology with a philosophy spin that agrees with a lot of the viewpoints I have myself. And I'd love to share your content around to my friends, but I find myself in a bit of a pickle because I know my friends... and they have ridiculously short attention spans. So! While I personally love your content and don't mind engaging with longer form content, please consider maybe... boiling down or otherwise compartmentalizing your content into some sub-twenty minute episodes, perhaps with multiple parts as need be. It's really good stuff though! Keep up the great work!
