🇷🇺 What do you know about the republic of Mari El deep in Russia on Europe's eastern border? Probably not too much right. What about their language? Well you're not alone and so I went out to rectify that and on the journey there found some weird things...like Barbara Streisand.

The reason why I watch this channel is because if the trip is boring, you leave it at that. You don't try to create drama or sensationalize a situation or pull up a fancy drone and make it seem like you had the time of your life. You leave it as is, and to me if makes it feel like I have really visited these paces. It's raw, it's real, it's simple. Kudos to you.

@@sashaeur Completely agree. The last thing these beautiful people need is "modernity" and internet and erosion of their culture. I am by no means anti-development, but I would love to go back to an older past where people are simple and love nature.

Btw, Mari language is a Uralic language, related to as far geographically as Finnish and Hungarian. You should visit the Udmurt Republic, they are super proud of their Udmurt identity.

@@-andreiDNA It's obvious that in such a vast federation like Russia there are all kinds of nationalities living all over the place, due to whatever historical or personal reasons. It's all history. 13:34 Those people on the poster are not only wanted by the cops, it's also people who are missing. It says in russian that the old lady was last seen here and such and such, and that she is simply missing, not that she has done anything wrong. Hope she is well.

Blin I love how the soviets made stuff unneccessarily beautiful. Like here in the uk, bus stops, plastic and metal bare bones, how cheap can we make this. This russian stuff's gorgeous. I wish I'd been born in a time where countries had civic pride.

I have never been to Russia so I can’t debate with you on whether it is dangerous there or not, but it’s all relative and compared to Switzerland statistically crime is higher in Russia. Going to these areas in the middle of nowhere on your own with a camera which cost the equivalent of one year’s salary (to local people) is a huge risk. I know Ben is more than capable of looking after himself but there are bad people out there who will take advantage. As a female I know I could never do even though I would love to.

@@mie... Despite looking shitty It's probably not as bad as you'r portraying it. The average salary there is approximately $400 which is not great but not terrible either. Tbf, mostly it's much safer traveling there than in city ghetto areas because those places are so remote and uninhabited and locals know each other's faces, so he's probably less likely getting mugged or murdered for his $300 camera in daylight
