The witness said hed plead the 5th on stand... Then the prosecution and judge had a meeting behind closed doors... And suddenly after that meeting the witness then decided to not plead the 5 th and actually testify.... And mr Steele has said he thinks the witness was given a print out by the judge of the penalty the judge could send him to jail for and how he'd keep him in jail for years untill even other people cases went to court... And supposedly the prosecution also told the witness they didn't care if he lied on stand about things as long as it wasn't about one particular murder... Totally outrageous if all true. And clearly it's witness intimidation and tampering by not only the judge but prosecution as well. Especially due to him already being sworn in on stand. Then to not even notify the defense of a secret meeting... And they wouldn't have known it seems if someone didn't leak it to them.but the judge was more worried about who told the defense vs the actual reason or at least explain to the defense why you had to have this meeting.. It's currently under appeal and any reasonable other judge should rule in favor of that motion and this judge should be removed from this case at a minimum and honestly this is enough for a mistral.

Ya'll are clowns. The meeting was with Woody attorney and prosecutor. The defense had no bounds to be present and would have had the information. Steele fucked up and blew his load to quick. It is a crime to share information from a judge in private. More of you idiots should have stayed in school.

Its not that it wasn't he couldn't as ex parte is allowed and he did one with the defense lawyer before (said it at the start of the video). However he was dead wrong with how they did it (as the prosecutor is also to blame). Should have told the defense lawyer it was going to happen in a meeting in the chambers and let him have his say. Now there is a very real possibility that the judge will be sanctioned in some way and a mistrial to happen and this has to start all over again (maybe double jeporady could apply) with the defendant more then likely been released. Could have been all sorted with a simple conversation

Yep. I watched the entire interaction yesterday and he wouldn’t allow attorneys for Brian Steel to come into the courtroom by claiming that there’s no room in the courtroom to hold them which was a lie. That judge continuously interrupted Mr Steel & wouldn’t allow him to finish his argument because the judge didn’t want it on the record. There’s so much wrong with the way the judge is behaving and he’s intentionally ignoring the specifics of the case laws presented and claiming that he’s in the right when it comes to holding the ex parte, and threatening and holding Mr Steel in contempt & throwing him in jail.

Also a criminal defense attorney. This is just so _noble_ . I really admire Attorney Steele for sticking to his guns here, even if it means getting thrown in jail. It would be extremely hard to not just give up the name. Getting thrown in jail for blatantly disobeying a judge is something that can jeopardize your entire career, everything you've worked for. And so it's a pretty effective strong-arm tactic. It's between a rock and a hard place -- disobey the court, or potentially break your responsibility to keep privilege. Ethically, Attorney Steele's responsibility is ultimately to his client and he kept it. He is a model for us all.

No judge he doesn't need to tell you how he found out you were not following court procedure just because you got caught. If the ex parte meeting occurred because the witness was threatened, and the witness's lawyer informed the defendant's team about the conversation, the lawyer should face the repercussions for sharing confidential information. judges do hold ex parte meetings under certain circumstances, such communications are generally restricted and regulated to ensure fairness and impartiality in the judicial process.

I get there were a lot of defendants, but how does jury selection take 10 months? Trump, former president and currently running, got his jury selection done in what? A week? Less? I don’t remember but you’d think it’d be tough to find impartial jurors for that. Again I know there were a lot of defendants but come on lol, it’s not like any of them are famous beside Thug/Gunna, and they’re nowhere near as famous as Trump. It just seems insane to me for it to take THAT long. The Trump trial had 500 potential jurors that were evaluated, and 96 made it in to the courtroom. It took like 2-3 days to go from 500 to like 40. I did a quick search and it seems like it took under a week to find 12 jurors and 6 alternates. If they can get a jury of 12+, with alternates, for a case of a President in a week or less…HOW can something like this take 10 months! I just truly don’t get it. Thug has been sitting in jail for just over 2 years at this point with no conviction. That’s messed up. What happened to a speedy trial? This case is such a mess. I can’t fathom being on the jury for a case that’s probably going to go on for like 2 years. That sounds so miserable

@@VonJayI did. Generally, ex parte communications are prohibited because they can influence the judge's decision. They also threaten the legal principle that all parties must be given an opportunity to be heard on all matters related to the case. Any private communication between a judge and a lawyer who has a case pending before the judge is presumed to have been about the pending lawsuit. It appears that Steel/Merchant/Adams/etc are correct in their position. It gives the impression of impropriety. The reason why the judge doesn't want anyone to know is because he coerced the witness to testify by threatening to hold him in jail until the trials of all 26 defendants in the ysl cases are completed. On Friday the witness got on the stand and pled the fifth so on monday morning he was brought into chambers with 14 people- the judge, a few sheriff's deputies, district attorneys, his lawyer, a court reporter, security. . . and he remained there until he agreed to testify, though stating that his testimony would be a lie. If the judge gives those transcripts to the defense then the witness is useless to the prosecution because he said he would lie if he testified.

@MaxPower-vf8kt
@MaxPower-vf8kt 3 ай бұрын
He got an immunity deal, that means you are supposed to testify. Failing to testify is failure to uphold his part of the deal. My understanding is the witness feared answering the question (he was being threatened, or felt threatened, by the gang) and used the fifth to avoid answering. My understanding the point of the meeting was clarifying the situation, what the witness is compelled to testify to hold his end of the deal. That still requires the defence be present. But “Pleading the fifth” and then reaching a deal to convince the person to testify, is not weird.
@richboii6597
@richboii6597 3 ай бұрын
@@MaxPower-vf8kt His “immunity deal” isn’t what people think. People think he was given a deal in exchange for dropping charges but that’s not the case. He was subpoenaed and his testimony was claimed to be crucial to public safety. He can get out of testifying by using his 5th amendment right but if the prosecutor offers him “use immunity” and the judge agrees to it he is now required by law to testify whether he wants the “deal” or not. It’s just a way to force someone to testify. The problem with “use immunity” is that it doesn’t protect you from being prosecuted, it only keeps them from using your testimony as evidence. Ex. You say “I robbed the 7/11 on 10/15/2023.” They can’t use your words as an admission of guilt but they can go get the surveillance tapes of you doing it and use it to prosecute you. He can still use the 5th but doing so will result with him being held in contempt until the trial is over (which he was aware of) It’s normal for a judge to meet with the witness alone but not the prosecutor without the defense being notified beforehand so they can object. The big claim here is that the prosecutor told woody that he would not only be jailed for the remainder of this trial, but also for the remainder of every single other trial of the other 10+ defendants which could end up taking 2-5years. On top of that, all of this happened while he was still sworn in on the stand. I’m not saying it’s intimidation but it definitely could be. Only way to know is for them to give the defense the audio recording and un redacted transcript.

All those swearing, offensive, rambling, Karen's, cons, auditors, and SovCits, do so much ESPECIALLY on zoom, and commit contempt one thousand times over and just get away with it. Those are the ones that need to be held in contempt, and then corrupt judges use it on people who they just want to punish. That isn't what contempt is for and so many people aren't using it correctly, especially on Zoom.

This was a bad look for the judge. Absurd really. He can’t handle that he got caught. Acting like a toddler!

@@VonJay It is legal in certain circumstances. Notice how he refused to say what the circumstances of this was? If he presented a valid reason why they couldn't have had the defense there this could have all gone away. He prefers to sit there and argue without listening.

@@jplayzow if he cannot tell the defense why they had the ex parte in the first place why would he reveal the reason in court? Especially if it’s a time sensitive matter where court proceedings must be arranged and the judge cannot divulge what’s being arranged while it’s being arranged.

Judge saying the person who provided him the information likely violated privilege. But the prosecutor was allowed to hear privilege testimony from a sworn witness, in secret?
