First Tesseract, now does it djent! Couldn't be more stoked. You're such a good teacher. Its awesome to see you delve into this sort of stuff as a fan of your channel and metal. Definitely playing with this later. 👌

when you said 5 against 4 and 7 against 4 I thought you were gunna do quintuplets and septuplets on the kick and I was like OH BOY! but yeah 5/8 and 7/8 over 4/4 is cool too.

Lifelong musician, brand-new drummer. Your videos have done so much to inspire and educate - I wish I'd had teachers like you for all my instruments. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, and as St Clinton would say: "Give up the Djunk!"

Hey Rob. I wonder if you're familiar with the work of the late Sean Reinert on the Cynic - Focus record? He brought the funk, fusion and all sorts to metal. Was a true pioneer and well worth his legendary status.

This is some of the cleanest djenting I've ever heard, nevermind with trad grip, you're a BEAST! This is my second time watching this video. I would kill to see you perform with a djent band one day.

I think it's crazy that when you "simplify" the top (just play quarters) it gets so much "harder" because you are on a 16th note grid...🥁🤯 Always great stuff Rob...👏

Thank you Rob for sharing this - it is certainly a very good foundation for djenting some serious sh*t! Watching this video, something clicked, and I thought I would take a moment to point out the importance of ghost notes in this genre. I personally find that when I get djenty, that the ghosting on the snare becomes the "clock I don't have to think about" if that makes sense. If you watch notable players like Tomas Haake, Ken Schalk, and Russ Russell (and you too in this very video!) they all basically ghost the sixteens and accent as needed. And it struck me as to how important they really are for proper djentiness. Again, thank you for taking the time to make these videos!

Now, if you switch the top beat with the bottom you’ve got old time Jazz (almost) …. Mr Brown makes this simple as it’s broken down in its parts, that why I watch Mr Brown as he’s a great teacher and instructor.!!!!
