I use digital for anything that requires a time and need alerted for. I use a basic notebook to write to do’s, notes, etc…I process my notebook weekly.

I use both because digital has an alarm to remind me and I can look up any past events and analog because I love writing with my fountain pens and the memory decoration. Thank you for sharing.

I tried digital planning for two months and the main reason I couldn’t stick it out was because of one of the points you mentioned in the beginning. Being able to physically see how far you are in a year by seeing how far you are in a notebook or how many pages I have until I get to that thing that’s due has helped me basically since I’ve been in elementary school get a grasp on those kinds of things. I honestly don’t think I could ever just do digital. I like digital for future planning appointments or big event and then I add those in month by month as I go into my paper planner.

I agree with you about digital plans being easier to move around. I use my paper planner CONSTANTLY throughout the day. But for anything that needs the flexibility of moving around or changing, I tend to keep it on a digital platform.

I’ve found I can think on paper and see how my life fits together. Digital can capture events but I don’t see them.

Digital is very good for capturing cause I think I always have my phone on me, not always my planner. I also like the reminder possibility for important stuff. Paper planner is very good for brainstorming and actually make the plans

I find I remember names when I type them especially when I typed dozens of articles for a historical website. By typing the names they went into my brain. It was comical when I actually met some of these people and told them how I knew of them. I do like digital calendars for organizations because it is easy to change dates or times for events. And I use my phone to record my next doctor appointment, then I can add it to my planner when I get home.

Thanks, this is excellent. I use my phone and a Bujo. My Bujo is my “planning” and “notes” book. I’m retired and only take my Bujo when I’m away from the house either on Grandma duty or pet sitting (my side gig). My phone iCal is my “go to” place for both short term and long term date specific things. But I also use my future log, monthly calendar and weekly to add in my brain dumps and to do lists. I also am an avid reader and I use my Bujo for monthly TBRs and wrap ups.

Thank you for this. I love your down to earth and “forgivable” approach to planning in general. I always felt like I had to be all or nothing so I gave up paper planning years ago because with my corporate job I could never write meetings down as they moved constantly. I am just now figuring out how to marry the two. I find I keep MUCH better track of my tasks when they are written but any meetings or appts are way better on a digital calendar. And taking notes has been way better for me digitally simply because I type way faster than I write lol.

This is so spot on! I've been doing digital planning for a while, but I actually consider going back to a paper planner in addition to using my Google calendar to set up reminders or appointments that are far from the current day.

I am using Things too, since Things 1 😂! Would you do a video on how you organize Things for life, especially how you decide to set up and utilize The Rituals categories/ Life Admin Blocks. That really interests me. It opens up a completely different perspective for me to use Things

I find digital to be most useful for a) repeating tasks and b) stuff I need to be reminded about. Thus I use Things for a lot of my routines, or when I'm building a new habit, since those usually need both of these features. Paper habit trackers just don't work for me, as they're too easy to ignore! 😂 I love my paper planner too, though - it's great for seeing a lot of stuff at a glance, which a phone app cannot do easily.

I use- digital (calendar and Keep Notes) for tasks and what I do now (and in tomorrow's or the week's "nows") and the rest of the day. I hardly ever look back on any of it. I use paper for thoughtfulness, bigger picture planning, tracking, notes/records, and memory keeping. The process has been really finetuned this year after trying both separately and none of them feeling right by themselves.

I love this approach. Paper is SO good for being more thoughtful and intentional. And bigger picture planning - I so agree, I just CANNOT see that in a digital to do system. Thank you for sharing your system!

Interesting. I have the opposite experience, which surprisingly shows me just how personal this is. I find digital tools stiff and inflexible in comparison with analogue tools. I do agree that hand writing helps improve memory retention, this is also substantiated scientifically, and helps slow down to aid the thinking process and reflection of the things. I use digital tools for things that rarely change such as contact information and birthdays, while I use analogue tools for things that are not settled yet, from lists to planning to year long projects. The one thing where digital tools may have one up is sharing with others: text, audio, photos, and video. I carry a notebook and a pen at all times as well as the phone, but the phone is the one I avoid if I can, because unlike my notebook it doesn't add to my life in the same way, even though it makes a significant difference when it comes to communication and sharing.

This is really interesting! It's so interesting how these things show up differently in people's lives. I definitely feel you on the phone not being additive though. It can be tough to put it down once you've opened it, even though you may have had good and productive intentions!

This a great video! I definitely use both. I've been trying to organize my digital side a little bit better lately and having a visual widget does help a lot for my notes app. I've also set a timer on my socials so I get locked out of the app when I've used up the time time for that day and that is really helpful so I don't completely distract myself for too long. I prefer my bujo for a lot like journaling and memory keeping and mind maps like you said. There's several projects I'm working on were I have stuff going on for it in a notebook but also in Notion. So I usually have both with me to work when I get the opportunity and if I don't have my notebook then I can still work and brainstorm on my phone which is great.

Sometimes I need to look back on things, such as when I had a specific doctors apt and there have been a couple of times that those apts were lost on google calendar for some reason and that's one thing that I can't stand. The thing that keeps me wanting to turn to digital planning on good notes is that I can search anything. My plans are all hand written, it's just written on my ipad and not on paper, but it's convenient that they are searchable. I love the pencil and paper though - I got my first computer in 1998. Before that, we wrote everything down. So I find myself tactile. There is pros and cons to both as you said.

I use digital and analog as well. For instance since I look at my paper planner everyday, I put the basic appointment there the day and the when. But in Google Calendar I put everything right down to the address, that way I can make use of Maps if I need to and don't have to panic about not knowing the address. I usually ask myself am I going to want to remember this later even beyond the date of occurrence, if the answer is yes it goes in my week, and possibly Google Calendar. I use Google Keep for lists not generally "to dos' If I create a check boxed grocery list as I tick them off the list they go gray and drop to the bottom, it keeps me from having to create a from scratch grocery list because if I untick them they go back to the top. And you can add a collaborator to each individual list (or not). I used Microsoft To Do some and my planner other times for the to do list. And I use a diary app throughout the day to record little snippets of what I want to write in my paper planner at night.

Also, when you use digital who has access to your calendar? What does the calendar app do with your information?
@LewisLittle66
@LewisLittle66 Жыл бұрын
I use a combination of both; I've been using digital for work tasks for years, but only this year started paper-planning and I use that for personal stuff, because it's really not convenient for me to use a paper planner at work. So work tasks remain solely digital. The other thing I use digital for is tasks that need an alarm to be done at a specific time, otherwise I will not remember, ever. So one of my morning tasks when reviewing my planner for the day is to migrate any time-sensitive tasks from there into my phone for an alarm. This is one reason why an hour-by-hour daily spread doesn't work for me; my phone fulfils that role whereas the key spread in my paper planner is the weekly.

Rachelle I love your content, but please change your passcode or blur it out! You are giving access to your life with those numbers. I probably over reacting, and you are using a simple code for the video. At least I hope so. You gave me the idea to move my home stuff to a shared task list with my husband in the way of the calendar. Otherwise it is paper planner all the way for me. It is the tactile feel I need in front of me that I can shut away. On the phone it can be forgotten. I only use both digital and paper when going grocery shopping now. Mostly to send the grocery list to my husband if he is the one that is physically going into the store.
