That’s why you don’t buy games at full value either. You shop around until you get a good deal. I wouldn’t sell my collection in bulk either. I see how these amazing collections are sold in bulk to these famous retro KZbinrs for Pennies on the dollar and I shake my head. Worse come to worse (emergency) I would sell it by console.

They get sold like that because the people need the money NOW. You are living in a fantasy world. Nobody is going to pay you price charting value on a per console basis either.

@screwhead6274 I’m not asking for price charting prices for my games, however I’m not giving them away either. 90% -95% of my collection is in mint condition. Just like sellers (scalpers/game stores) ask for premium, so will I. I understand everybody has different circumstances for selling their collection, I’m blessed to have a good job and a solid savings (saving for a house). And NO I don’t live in a fantasy world, I just won’t let opportunistic resellers take advantage of me.

I had a gamecube collection in like new condition... it was a pita to get even get underpriced value out selling 1 by 1. Yet, I would see copies on facebook marketplace charging rediculously higher prices in worse conditon being sold.

selling each item individually will obviously get you the most money, but it takes a lot of time to list each item and it takes a while for low demand items to sell...i've been selling my collection this way, and it's a long process...many trips to the post office and many afternoons spent making listings.

Collecting games as an investment is a fools errand. Buy what you like and want to keep. All of my snes, n64, dreamcast, saturn stuff and majority of my modern stuff is the JP version as i live here so never had to drop big money on stuff like Chrono trigger etc. Investments should be impersonal and emotionless. Stocks, crypto that has real world usecase(xrp), real estate not games. Also you never know when a retro game is going to get a rerelease/remaster/remake on modern hardware eg marvel vs capcom 2 or the announced lunar collection coming next year.

I feel like alot of assets, like gold even, are worth alot and easy to acquire but reselling even when official value is high is a royal pain if you dont wish to take a hit on value.

If you’re collecting games to sell them then you missed the mark completely. Enjoy the games, if you don’t enjoy them, let someone else enjoy them.

My games are worth every bit of what I think they are and more... And that's why I'm keeping them. Don't need the money and never will. That's because I've got it like that...🙂

Video games are worth as much as what people are willing to pay. Personally, I think the reason why video games are worth as much as they are is because most of the people who are buying these games are people who grew up in this generation. It's all about supply and demand. In the next 50 years, the newer generations more than likely will not be interested in the PS2, Xbox, GameCube, etc. They will be interested in what is currently out during that time. As a result, a lot of these games will be worthless as time goes on, and as our generation continues to get older.

The ONLY thing I disagree with you is that when if you sell your games individually it doesn’t mean you will get your value that you want. 1) example is I seen on youtube a guy who had a Nes game and it was rare and worth like 65,000. The guy said he would take 55,000 so he’s still losing 10,000!!!! An yet the game still sits because no one is going to shell out 55k on a video game. Example 2) you can sell off your collection piece by piece but when it comes to total how much is it worth for you to sell your ENTIRE collection like that? If I was going to ask you to borrow 100.00 and you gave me 100.00 bill and I said I will pay you back 1.00 a day for 100 days, you would think you lost your 100 bucks. Why? Because the value of your 100.00 feels like a loss compared to getting it paid back at one shot. So, there is always two ways at looking at selling your collection piece by piece or being able to walk with 15-20,000 in your pocket that you could invest that or buy a hot rod car that could make money as it sits and increase in value faster than sell your collection piece by piece and maybe getting 2,000 a year on 20-30,000 over 10-15 year span.

More and more it seems like the only people really buying retro games are resellers liquidating the stocks of other failed resellers. Prices for this most of stuff just doesn't make sense unless you are getting some bulk deal. Emulation keeps getting better... it can take up a lot of space... the retro market is quickly becoming a market for speculating investors rather than genuine collectors.

Goods are only as valuable as people are willing to pay. Can we all agree that at least you can get something for your collection, as opposed to digital games that are a throwaway.

Best approach from my end. Buy games in bulk and below market value if u can. Sell em not above or at CIB but around 10 to 20% below current market values. If u bought games and are planning to sell and with the 10% to 20% below market and u still would make more than how much you bought it. Your pretty much guarantee to sell and make a profit. based on past experience. Most of the stuff i got were either at CIB and Below and i ever do plan to cut back and get more space. that is probably how i would go. Also another factor no one seems to take into consideration especially years down the road. with the rate of inflation at a first glance it might seems you sold it more but compared to how much you bought it vs now., did u actually make a profit? XD This is why i am not really into reselling and most of the stuff i have even if i keep em till i retire and sell off some assets im not expecting a big profit margin. which is not really the main focus of me anyway.

You also got to factor in the condition of the game. If it is in mint condition, its value is probably higher than what the average is valued at.

I had a gamecube collection in like-new condition... sold it all between 2020-2022. I even charged 5-10% lower than price charting... yet it wouldn't move. Meanwhile, I would see games in worse condition than mine on facebook marketplace... being sold above price charting prices by $10-30 bucks. While the only potential buyers I seemed to get was resellers trying to make a quick flip off me.

@b4rs629 Wow, that's surprising because during covid, I couldn't keep anything in stock for long, even at the higher prices. Think it's part ebay pushing the items in front of more people. I'll run sales and get nothing, but a day after the sale, I'll get a sale or two and keep getting consistent sales for a while after that.

Anything 6th gen and before is at a point where they will just continue to rise in value ok granted they might fluctuate in price up and down but if u look at it from a long term investment as long as the game is still playable and decent shape the games value will always be higher in the future than it is now. Heck even the sports/car games on these systems are at a point they are increasing in price albeit slower than others. Sealed Games in particular would be the best investiment, some of them already are in high in resale price let alone in another couple of decades.

@@Bird-Birdy-Love Games aren't investments & shouldn't be. Greedy people need to gtfo this hobby. Let gamers game If people want to invest in gaming... buy microsoft, nintendo, or sony stock... and leaves games alone Anyone who buys games based on speculative invesment to resell / scalp... are a shit stain to people who want to buybuck some of their childhood People like phonix resale / chase after the right price... are the scumiest of people I've ever seen. Everytime I want to buy a movie, video game, tv show, or pc parts...I gotta fomo buy / worry about some douchebag using bots to buy up the inventory and resell it for x5-10 It's pissing me off. All these youtubers speculating about values, prices, fomo videos, etc... are also the problem. There's zero reason why a cartoon kid show I used to watch as a kid like Code Lyoko that got a dvd release for $20 on amazon... is now selling for $1,000 on ebay. ^ Wanna be weak ass entreprenuers ruining hobbies for every day people There's zero reason why mighty morphin power rangers on blu-ray that was $20 on amazon... is now going for $100 because of scalpers These companies that do low-print runs / limited prints ... are only feeding the scalpers. People need to stop treating movies & video games like their fucking TCG' collectables (gotta catch em all type shit)
