Thank you! I watched this before I ordered the part and just used it as a guide to make my repair. One of the first times I have not called my dad to help walk me through something. It was nice to call after it was already done for once! The tips about sliding forward towards the front or the car, swapping out the retainer clip, and how to test the door before closing were all greatly appreciated!

My driver side handle on 2001 CR-V broke off in my hand. After a few swear words, I thought to myself - Well, I guess I better pull off the door panel and see how to fix this. You're totally right about switching out the new plastic clip for the factory one. The new one was warped I think, and didn't allow the rod through the hole. Thanks for making this such a quick and easy project!

Was able to do this today with little trouble thanks to your video! Hardest part was that darn clip! And also trying to align the new handle so it fits flush. I’m happy how it turned out! First try as well

Wow, this saved me. However reinserting with the new one became impossible. I think the new one was slightly off from original. I forced it in maybe 1/8 inch forward of screw hole and it snapped in. No hope of using screw. But its working. Thanks!!!

My car handle just broke so I am so glad to see this video because I'm on a fixed income and don't have the money the dealer wanted to charge for repairs. I went online and ordered a new one but I need to know can I remove the latch from the rear back door & use it on my front door until the new one arrived. Right now I can't open my front door from the inside at all.

Lady Leo High Stepper usually they are slightly different on the drivers side. However it may work but the lock switch may not fit so you would leave it out until the new one arrives.

Question: my door recently froze shut and it took me quite awhile to get it unstuck. Now when I use the inside door latch to exit the car, I have to pull it at least twice to get the door open. It seems it’s not engaging the rod that releases the door latch? The outside door latch works perfectly. Any thoughts on how to fix the inside door latch? Or should I replace it?

You will want to look at it and see what has happened. The rod from the handle to the latch may be bent out of shape or may have come out of one of the guide clips. The inside handle may be partially broken as well

I have been having a hard time finding that knob to buy anywhere on line. Does that piece have a spececific name that I should be typing in, to have better luck finding it online. The Hood I haven’t messed with a 2004 but look for a small round cut area that would be a cover that you could pry off. Otherwise you should just be able to push the entire handle forward to release it.

Ashley Safie yes it does need the screw. You could get by without it but risk it breaking. How far out of alignment is it?

Your Car Guy DR there is. O sliding to the left anymore. All I see in the screw hole is solid plastic. That is why the screw won’t go in. Thinking of just drilling another hole?

Ashley Safie can you tell is the hole in the new handle not in the correct place if so you could drill an new hole but would likely need a slightly longer screw. If the handle just needs to be moved slightly forward to hit the hole I would do that. If it needs to come slightly back you could remove a little material from the three hooks that lock into the door to allow it to come back further. Just make sure you still get proper function on the handle.

I replaced the handle on my CRV but the hole doesnt line up to put the last screw. if i position it so that it does line up the handle doesnt open.

kyra johnson check to make sure your new handle has the same inside lever as your old one. If they match up make sure there is nothing interfering with it.

I did... several times... I did notice on one being replaced the top hook was scraped up and ive always had a hard time reinstalling after door panel removal (replaced actuator and motor twice) What i did end up doing was snapping off that top hook on the new handle... That allowed it to easily seat into place the screw hole clearly visible now i put screw back in and it works perfectly. Made me cringe to resort to that but it works flawlessly. Youd never know unless a mechanic or a diy'er like me ever removes it again. Great video btw if i hadnt watched it i would have removed the entire door panel. Thank you

Paul Dante should only have the one screw unless someone added one but you should be able to see that. Sometimes it may take a bit of force to get it forward. It only needs to go about 1/4 inch.
