Mom would serve grilled cheese and tomato soup alot to her brood of 8 children when it got nasty outside here on our North Central Montana farm. Two slices of cheese MINIMUM. As a Wisconsinite, Wisconsin being the Dairy State, you can never have too much cheese on anything ❤ Also, the United States is comprised of many different cultural regions, so the South will make foods differently from the Midwest, New England, and the West Coast. Some restaurants make grilled cheese with pickles, some don't. Always look for little Family owned diners in smaller towns. They tend to have the most "home cooked" flavors. You can turn a grill Cheese into a Patty Melt, a Tuna Melt and a Turkey Melt. Instead of white bread, you use Rye bread for all three. For the Patty Melt, it basically a hamburger on a grill cheese typically with Swiss cheese and sautéed onions (but some people have been known to use American cheese or Cheddar). A Tuna Melt is a grilled cheese with Tuna Salad and American Cheese. And the Turkey Melt is a grilled cheese with grilled Turkey slices, Tomatoes and American Cheese. Although, i sometimes add bacon.
@edwilson7187 Жыл бұрын
Best way to make a grilled cheese is to melt enough butter in the pan to coat the bread on one side. Putting the butter on the bread rips the bread most of the time so melting it in the pan then putting the bread in the pan is better. Move the bread around till you soak the butter up, then slightly brown the bread on one side. flip the bread and slightly brown it on the unbuttered side and flip the bread over and put the cheese in. Don't have the heat up too high so the bread doesn't burn before the cheese melts. Flip it a few times till the bread is toasted like you like it then serve. If you use Velvetta cheese you cut from the block cook it on a little lower heat and add a small amount of butter while cooking to help "steam" the bread and melt the cheese a little better. Tomato soup made with milk not water and the sandwich is the best quick hot meal you can make.

When I make grilled cheese, I butter both sides. Toast one side of each slice, flip it, then add the cheese to one and put the other bread on top. Grilling both sides of the bread just adds a little extra crunch! And using mayo is amazing. Since it's really just egg and oil, you're basically coating your grilled cheese with fried eggs. Some nice additions...Ham, Bacon, Philly Steak, slice of tomato, diced onion, or sliced jalapenos.

Something I noticed in this video, they seem to be cooking them on too low of heat. It should be about the same temp of pan as what you use to fry eggs- that way the butter on the outside will crisp the bread a little, instead of making it soggy.

You can also put tomato slices between cheese slices before grilling the cheese sandwiches and use plenty of butter on your cooking surface which helps to brown the bread.

Grilled ham and cheese with mustard, an absolute favorite. Often mayo is used to replace the butter as well. Cold stormy winter days mom would heat up a big pot of tomato soup, grill ham/cheese sandwiches and we would all gather at the table and play games as kids. Favorite moments ❤

When I was eleven or twelve, grilled cheese sandwich was the first thing I "cooked" that my dad complemented me on. The last time I stayed with my parents as an adult (in late pregnancy cause my hubby was out of town) my dad requested I make him some grilled cheese and still says my grilled cheese sandwiches are better than mom's! LOL! Obviously there were other things I've cooked and shared with them over the years but grilled cheese was a special memory for us.

So, a couple of tips to ELEVATE the American grilled Cheese: Toast BOTH sides of the bread with butter. Add some heavy cream or full fat milk to you tomato soup to make a bisque. BEST DIPPING EXPERIENCE EVER! We traditionally use thinner bread with our grilled cheese. That being said, thicker cuts tend to be heartier. SOURDOUGH BREAD! NOTHING BETTER! Grilled cheese sandwich is what I had for dinner tonight. It is one of our comfort foods. I live in Wisconsin and we make grilled cheese from a variety of cheeses. Most popular is American, but it is also good with Swiss, Cheddar, Pepperjack etc. Sometimes we also combine different kinds. We never put beans on our grilled cheese. I am glad you enjoyed the sandwich.

A couple tips: my dad told me to butter both sides of the bread, toast one side in the pan, and then add cheese when you flip that side over. I use cheddar cheese, but colby would be good, too. Also, the very best grilled cheese sandwiches are either dipped in a bowl of tomato soup, or have slices of tomato and a little bit of mayo in the sandwich! 😋

Tomato soup and grilled cheese is a comfort food. Simple, but so satisfying. There is also a restaurant fairly close to us called The Wheel, where all they serve is custom made grilled cheese sandwiches. You pick the bread, the cheese, any meat you may want, and toppings. There are sooo many different combos for it over here which I think is why so many people love it, not only is it delicious but you can get creative with it. I like the dipping it in beans idea too, we sometimes dip grilled cheese in chili too. That or cinnamon rolls in chili. But we like American, cheddar and colby mixed but for the budget's sake it's usually just American cheese.

Using those types of beans is a British tradition. Lots of bean types used in the US, but not on bread or for breakfast like the English do. The Commonwealth countries got a lot of the British food traditions, but the US did not. The Germans, Italians, and Eastern Europeans had a huge influence on American food early on. .

@@allysonchen4286 A slice of tomato in the sandwich is a legit option. The best way to do this is to make sure you got cheese on both slices before you seal the sandwich shut. That way the tomato doesn't soggy up the toast.

This was fun to watch. Like most other commenters, I grew up on grilled cheese. As I've gotten older, I've strayed from the classic American Cheese and prefer cheddar. One suggestion I would give is to adjust the amount of water in the soup to make it a little thicker. That will allow for better dipping. I have also found that a homemade grilled cheese is always better than what you get in a restaurant. Love the videos!

When I worked at Village Inn, a breakfast restaurant like Denny's, we had a sandwich called the Grown Up Grilled Cheese. You add Colby Jack and a slice of American, 2 strips of bacons, some diced onions and a thin slice of tomato, with some mustard on the bread and grilled with liquid butter. This is all grilled together, so the tomato is hot as well, which gives the sandwich a mustard/ketchup flavor to it. That thing is delicious.

Dad's favorite/favourite is Provolone, Muenster, and Swiss cheese. He gave your multicheese version a big thumbs up. Dad wanted me to give Atlanta his recipe for Cheeseburger Garlic Bread. Brown 2 lbs groundbeef to your liking. While it browns, slice a whole loaf of Italian or French bread thru the middle lengthwise and open. Example would be like they ate shown in "Subway" ads. May use a Bagette if you prefer. Butter the bread and add Garlic or Garlic Powder to the bread, then brown in oven. Once browned, add browned groundbeef, your favorite/favourite cheese, and any other toppings you like to your "burger". Return to oven until the cheese melts, and other toppings(if any) begin to brown. Brown until it is to your liking and enjoy.

Put some nice thick cut ham in there too! Yum! Edit: I usually put the inside (un-buttered side of the grilled cheese), on the grill first to heat it and just lightly toast it.
