Rolling update on this case (As of 15/01/24): Sao Paulo's Civil Office has released a statement to confirm that an initial toxicology report conducted by the IML indicates that at the time of his death, Carlos had 32ml of cocaine per litre of blood in his system. This amount is considered to be potentially lethal. Subsequently, his suspects are likely to be charged with concealment of a body and not homicide.

Possible that he OD’d and seeing as a drug related death. They couldn’t alert the authorities. So, they just hid his body.

Hi Adrian! I am Brazilian and my family lives in Itapecerica da Serra. The medical report came out and confirmed he died from overdose that was elevated by the higher blood pressure the se*** relation provoked. The couple was released from prision and their decision to hide what happened was made due to the fact that they were doing drugs with children at the house and a minor was having inappropriate relations with an adult, so if they called police they would have lost custody of the children. Police held a press conference and said that if they had called for help, nothing would have happened with the kids besides social workers following up closely the family, but now that they chose to hide his body, they will be prosecuted, but will respond out of jail.

His father taught him how to live, but failed to teach him how to die. It's the best gift a dying person can give...show that it is just a simple part of life, and how to die with grace, knowing the family you leave behind is comfortable in your passing. I lost both my parents. My stepdad 11/22 and my mom 7/23. I felt his messages deep in my heart. I had to quit working and I’ve started therapy and medication, but they were my best friends. Especially my momma. We were never apart my whole life and for a long time it was just us. She was and is my everything. They supported me through my addiction to opioids & an abusive relationship. They did teach me everything but how to live without them and I am still nowhere near ok. It’s a daily struggle to not delete myself. I don’t leave my house. If I didn’t have my dogs, I know I wouldn’t be here. I understand this man.

This story hit harder than it should for me. When we were in the high of COVID I couldn't see my dad for 3 months while he was suffering from covid. The doctor who was looking after him was nice enough to video chat with me to show him even in his worse state and that was the final time I saw my dad. Hours later they called me and told me my dad said "I'm ready to go" and he passed when they tried to bring him back. Once that happened that despair Carlos went through I went through. So I understand that pain so so well. I was fortunate to have ppl around me helping me during it but I could also see me going his route also being unable to recover. So this really hit home....

If they were indeed telling the truth, and they were not responsible for his death, then hiding his corpse was perhaps the dumbest thing they could have done. If the man who disappeared was last seen at your house, where do you think people will look first?

They could of easily hid or got rid of the drugs before calling, and just claimed they were unaware he was on drugs himself, or just leave the body outside and claim you found him in your yard collapsed, never made it inside . Not the right thing to do but just seems like there was so many other options other than burying him lying and even assisting the search party 🤦‍♂️

An above comment indicates the autopsy results are already out, quick search confirms that it was actually released on the 10th and the conclusion was death by massive cocaine overdose. Apparently he had so much in his blood that the police chief said “This amount is a shock, the coroner told me. It wouldn't even be necessary to make an effort. He could sit on the couch and die.” The reason the couple gave for hiding the body was because they were afraid of losing custody of their children if it was discovered drugs were being used at the house. Ironically the police chief has stated that they wouldn't have lost custody of their children just because of the drug use, but they will because they've been charged with the crime of hiding a body.

The relationship between Carlos & his father is truly heartwarming & I can empathise with Carlos and the suffering he endured from his death. From experience it can be life changing losing a parent , a constant source of love, reassurance, encouragement, friendship, non judgement and more. It seems like Carlos over dosing led to his untimely death while the fearful couple, perhaps overcome with the intense ‘cocaine paranoia’ panicked themselves into their actions. Once they’d come down from their high their guilt and bizarre situation forced them to enthusiastically join the search for Carlos maybe in a state of denial , to repent or to simply cover up their actions. In the end Carlos grief and subsequent downfall should not overshadow the beautiful friendship and bond he shared with his father, may they both rest together in peace.

While I generally agree that this is a very sad and disturbing case, I'd be a bit careful with reporting on it, since I think I remember the victims mother took the website where she was searching for information offline as of last year and basically stated that she was no longer thinking anybody who might know anything would talk and how hard it was to receive speculative Emails from people who didn't really know anything new all the time. In other words, this might be one of the cases where I'd definitely try to reach out to the family before reporting on it, just to make sure they still want it covered. However, seeing how Adrian is British and there was a lot of speculation of British military personnel possibly being involved at the time, it might be a good fit.

It breaks my heart for them. I watch for updates. As far as the couple that concealed his death both are absolutely horrible & heartless for allowing his family to suffer more than they already were. What a shame.

This hits close to home as my dad died a year ago and I’ve been falling apart since. And it’s not that a part of you dies with them it’s more like an open wound that gets poked and prodded every time you feel okay. It’s like nothing will ever be okay again, and I suppose in Carlos’ case that became a reality.

Criminals in Brazil are not worried about their sentences. Our laws are so lenient and weak and disgusting. Richtoffen is free on streets again for example...Champinha (I sugest you look at this case...Liana Friedenbach and Felipe Café case) is eating and sleepng well and safe, unfortunately. Nice video bro! Keep going. Cheers from Brazil.

it's a stretch but i can't help but wonder if friends of the couple could have rallied people to burn the property to help hide evidence? i understand the sentiment of why people wanted to destroy their property, but i find it weird they burned the place before the couple was officially put in trial or in prison. did nobody actually consider that there could still be important evidence left behind? also: did you write something incorrectly in the script? 9:10 "in july of 2024"

This is very relatable as I was lost in a world of grief after my mom's death, and it took me 5 and half years to shake out of that desperate misery. What's frustrating, though, is not knowing if justice got served... but I guess with an ongoing case, it can't b helped. Hope u will make a 2nd video on the outcome of this case. Best of luck 👍, keep up the good work 👏 🙌

I’m so sad that Carlos couldn’t find a way through losing his father. He was likely just trying to numb the pain with drugs and sex. The close loving and fun relationship he had with his father obviously meant the world to him. I hope his family finds some peace through the imperfect justice system. I also hope that they can look back at his videos and remember some of the good times with him. 😢

Lol. Adrian. U ARE a stud muffin !! Ever in Laradise Wyoming look me up. (might sound a little forward). To tie into this sad story, I have been through some stuff, but thankfully I never turned to drugs and or alcohol, I turned to people to help me. Yes I went to bars, thankfully disco was prevalent then. I just wanted to dance. I said please and thank u at a bar, never had any disrespect for anyone, anywhere. But good story. I could quote so many songs, but one that comes to mind is sung by Barbara Streisand, I believe it's called "People", people needing people, are the luckiest people. Too bad this guy in this story didn't reach out to the right people. I thank God or my higher power, that these people were in my life.

In Brasil we have a lot of love for our neighbours, we grew up together playing in the streets so to hear that they burned the couple house does not suprise me at all. The betrayal they cause is a great one. That all being said, the lost of a parent is a great one specially if you were that close to one another, tomorrow makes it 5 years since my dad passed and it still messes with my mood & emotions, and to hear him say he hopes to be with his father soon, I would not put it pass that he over dosed by choose 😔 this could turn out to be a assist suicide case.

I can't help but think that the cause for both his fame and his tragic end stemmed from a lack of maturity and depth of character that left him unable to cope with the death of his father, an occurrence that will hit everyone who doesn't die first. He was 26 not 12.

Having a great relationship with parents it's a blessing and curse at the same time. We need to learn to live without them when they're gone. Not easy but after having lost my dear father 2022 that's all I've been doing, learning how to cope with the loss while continuing with my life and slowly feel content and happy again. I've always known but now even more how important is to work on your mental health and build a strong mindset in order to deal with life trials. It's sad to see what happened to him. I wish everyone who's going through such hard times to stay strong and find right direction and joy in their life again.

This is such a 'fresh' case. I worry that videos about cases which are not done-and-dusted might invite a lot of speculation from the 'internet sleuth' part of the true crime fandom. While I do think we should be aware of cases which constitute current news, especially those outside our own cultures so we can practice empathy and self education, I also think that we shouldn't mettle in cases like this either, ya know? Either way, thanks for keeping your part in the reporting respectful as always Adrian!

The big question I have is: if they were worried about getting their children taken away due to drug possession in the home, why couldn’t they simply move or hide the drugs before calling police??? You can bury it in the backyard, in a crawl space, hide it in a box of tampons, or even better- take it to a friend or relative to have them hold it for a few hours... Cuz even if he himself was on drugs, it doesn’t mean they would get charged with that right? Even if they gave it to him, surely there’d be no proof of that 🤷‍♀️. I just think there were a lot of options they had for getting rid of the drugs instead of resorting to burying him in the backyard.
