Very educational and ingenious Sven. As a small yacht sailor your have always inspired me . Packing your food this way allows you compact dry storage with all the carbs and protein and fat that are essential for good health.

I'd add olives in brine (real and not fake acetic acid, although Id bring along some.) + sauerkraut to remove sugar cravings and get the K2, or Nato pills. Also where is the potassium, zink and selenium nuts?

Why does the walnut not go rancid over such a long time..
@christopherbrand53602 жыл бұрын
Because “going rancid” is an oxidation reaction and the vacuum bagging prevents that :)

@@Iglum Hallo Yrvind! I am big fan of you and your expeditions :) I am preparing for similar trip on 5 m long boat, which will last around 400 days. That is why I am making food calculations. Roughly I found out that most food gives between 330 up to 400 kcal per 100g. Some, as oil (or fat) gives even double of that. According to that calculations I came to conclusion, that I need around 275 kg of food when eating enogh to have 2700 kcal a day, which is more than you are expecting to have. I need around 600-700 g of food a day. Everyone has different eating habits. For me the best is to eat 4-5 times a day, or even 6 times. I want to eat/drink ready food which will be dilluted in water (around 0.3 ltr of water and 100 g of food). In a shaker. There is many food companies which are making such food, but that food is too expensive for me, so I am going to prepare it by myself. With powder milk and freeze dried bananas etc. As you did. Anyway, coming back to calculations, If you will have 400 kgs of food, and you need 1500 kcal a day, that means (from rough calculations), you do have food for more than 800 days at sea :) Best regards!

Most of you boat is packed FULL of food. you almost have 1000 lbs of dry food reserves. 1 cup of oatmeal is 339 calories. 1 cup of honey is 1000 calories. Why did you not go with honey as a main carbohydrate? or even mix it into the mix to cut weight? Or what about Pemmican which has a 2:1 protein and fat ration. benefits of fat being it's more calorie dense. Honey btw has more uses than just food! Honey and Pemmican are my main sources of calories. all of which can fit in a cooler which could last me 400 days.
@bengaliinplatforms12682 жыл бұрын
Because he’s 80 years old you can’t be slamming honey for carbs
@markettrader9119 ай бұрын
Interesting, but where do you buy pemmican? It seems difficult to make at home.

Why do you think you need "milk powder"? Skip that, please.

He's going to be at sea for a year. Let the man have some milk on his muesli.
@hkeye76 жыл бұрын
Sure, its not that, its because I care about "the man" that I recommend that he doesnt eat food that causes cancer.
@styx856 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your concern, but first of all the evidence for a milk/cancer causation is mixed at best. Second, he's 79 years old, has been drinking milk his entire life, and is setting off to sail the Southern Ocean alone. Ditching the milk powder isn't going to make the difference :P
@hkeye76 жыл бұрын
You want to have your opinion? Can I please have mine? I dont care what you think about "my concern" about Sven Lundin, nowadays Yrvind, who I have been following for many years and also met 2 times.
