KZbinrs: “YSL is still affordable” Saint Laurent: “ hold my drink...” 😅 Every single time youtubers hyped a brand for being accessible they had a price increase. Maybe we should have a secret code, so they don’t get on to us? 😅

I honestly feel that’s what happened with the YSL Mini Lou camera bag. That bag used to be under $1k (USD, before tax). Then it was reviewed by KZbinrs and word got out, and next thing you know BOOM, price increase and more than one at that! It’s $1,190 now!! So crazy.

I believe that YSL is aware of its "Chanel vibe", their bags are classy though feel younger than Chanel, and now since Chanel is moving away from their usual clients to try and grab the Hermes clientele there's a "vacancy" in the market, all those many clients that would buy Chanel after saving for awhile are left uncatered for. A raise in price means a raise in value too in the eyes of a buyer, so now YSL is taking those clients that could afford the Chanel pre-pandemic prices buy offering quaility bags for pre-pandemic Chanel prices. It's so unfair this spike up in prices, but it is a smart move on their part.

all bags are going up in price dramatically because the Instagram models and social media has ruined the exclusivity of these brands. all these brands are now the new lv. I’m seeing people who were never into luxury fashion now tweeting and posting about these bags just because it’s something everyone is doing. it also does not help that chanel has decided Tik tok teens are their ambassadors now. Luxury fashion world was always about exclusivity and they are raising the prices because these bags are more popular and mainstream than they ever have been.
@CarolCreates3 жыл бұрын
True dat‼️ I believe that’s why Channel and LV are hiking up their prices 2, 3 times a year 💰 . They’re clinging on to their “exclusivity”. Their bags are quickly becoming “mainstream” due to influencers making everyone and their dog wanting a “popular bag”. All those Chanel granny top handle bags and shoes - who knew they’d be so sought after 😳 - it’s because influencers have made them popular. You buy a bag, you keep it, you use it. Now it’s about “bag collections” and “investment bags” - silly concepts once again created by influencers 🤷🏽♀️

YSL is part of LVMH subsidiary, who owns LV(their famous 2020 multiple price increases). They KNOW what they're doing with price increases and responding to consumer market by raising the prices. It's clearly intentional. LVMH has been gobbling up multiple luxury brands and I believe the move is to highly monopolize the luxury market. Dior got 100% swallowed up and this year Tiffany and who can forget the notorious attempt of hostile takeover of Hermes? I come from the country that is highly monopolized by corporates. And you know where that leaves consumers? Unappreciated and wallet squeezed. And they are behaving exactly like a fast fashion corporates. All about profit margin, greed, fast fashion and churning out of season yet lack of appreciation for their consumers. All in the luxury dollar amount. Further aiding this monopolization would leave us without choices and voices in our dollars. Would I stop buying luxury? Not likely but I have been definitely spending extremely less dollar amount and purchasing micro companies that excel in craftsmanship. People should look into some Japanese brands now offer shipping international. Let's face it. LV isn't LV anymore. Neither is Dior nor Saint Laurent. Histories in these houses are long dead and Tiffany is next.

I will probably be the one with an unpopular opinion about Saint Laurent bags. I bought a fabulous lou camera bag last year which I absolutely loved, however after barely 1-2 months of wear it started tear in the most unexpected places, and generally just looked really shabby. I returned it to mytheresa and they refunded me the money without questions and admitted that they were not even able to fix the bag (although normally that is what they try to do). Another one I got - the envelope medium with black metal chain - is also a hassle since the paint on the chain scratches horribly after just 1-2 wears, and you basically have to get it re-sprayed regularly. Such a bummer because their bags are stunning and I still gravitate towards them, and might give them another chance actually. Maybe I was just unlucky. P.S. Love your videos and your overall vibe!!

Hi Sophie - love your videos. I wonder if you (or some of your kind viewers) as someone that owns both Chanel & Saint Laurent bags have an opinion on whether the quality is very different please? I love the styles of both brands and would be grateful for any advice you would have :)

I'm in the market for my first luxury handbag, and I'm a bit nervous about going in and shopping, since I'm not used to shopping in higher end places. What do you think is a better experience, going to Harrods or to the flagship stores in London? I don't want to feel out of place, but I also want to go and have fun and enjoy myself without being afraid of sticking out. Also, is there any advice you'd give to people who are nervous first going in to luxury stores?

Hello Sophie, would you ever consider buying bags that are not leather ? I am thinking about baskets or cotton bags (not the Prada nylon) for spring/summer ? Because they tend to get quite trendy each season, like the Loewe basket for exemple, what is your opinion on that ? I would love a video on spring/summer bags :) Have a lovely day 😊

Thanks love the red YSL. I just nabbed it from Flannels for £1129 tonight. Think it’s on special for today only in red. Stunning.

Wonderful, wonderful video 💚 | The jeans and the boots are utterly brill - Totally get u ordering a 2nd pair of the jeans str8 away. And a very wise move 👍🏽👍🏽 | One will always wear jeans. And b/c there's sooooo much choice with them....they're one of the hardest items to find a perfect pair for one's shape, ratio, configuration and taste. So when one finds one that ticks these boxes....Pounce!.....(And 'gorge' / 'stock up'.)

Sophie! You have made me add the LouLou puffer to my luxury list! I have the regular LouLou in a black medium with gold hardware. But now I want a red LouLou puffer! 🤦🏾♀️😩 Also, I just marked the Hermes Kelly 25 off my wish list last Friday! I have come to accept that I just have a problem. Whenever I work my lux list down, I found more things to add on to it!🤷🏾♀️😂

I'm in doubt if I buy the traditional lou lou model or the puffer! which one do you think is more susceptible to risks? which shows less signs of wear?

What would you suggest for spring bags? It seems like my ivory and white bags don’t last as long as the dark colors. I hate to buy a really expensive bag in those colors because of the color transfer and wear.

Would you reccomend YSL or Senreve more? I love bags from both brands for different things but just curious on your thoughts.

I sold my toy loulou and never looked back. I think I’m over the brand because I don’t like the large metal logo, but I do feel it’s well priced for a luxury brand that releases classic style bags. I do think they should increase their prices, because if they don’t being an “affordable “ luxury brand will negatively affect their brand image in the long run.

I bought two men’s bags from Dior in August - one a wallet on a strap, the other a cross body saddle and both have Significantly increased in price. I can’t believe the jump. I love luxury but the prices are becoming so ridiculous that it’s turning me off.

I've always found that YSL "called" to me even before I could afford any luxury items. I find it looks classy and not "shouty." Hope to grow my YSL collection over the years.

I just got my ysl loulou small which retails for 1650 EUR, I feel like its like the last price before it comes to Dior, Chanel and Hermes... Their bags are not cheap though, in LV you can find amazing bags for 500-1000 EUR, I find YSL more expensive and somewhere in between these 3 and brands as Gucci, Valentino etc.

Too bad YSL’s RE-sell value doesn’t reflect retail. Big not again for me.
