This is why many of the others have direct counterparts too. Heck they even gave yugi a 3rd in Timeaus during the waking the dragons arc.

Around 5:03 Actually Judai makes it very clear, he is in some kind of pocket dimension, the cards on Yugi's deck reacted to his feelings and what Winged Kuriboh felt and created a pocket dimension were Judai and a fake version of what would be Yugi at his peak, can duel.

I honestly think that Yugi would not have given up dueling over losing Atem, especially with how the anime continuity ended with Yugi talking about how his own story was just beginning. I also don't think that Yugi would have succumbed to Darkness during GX season 4, nor would he be around during zero reverse in 5ds. The time frame between Yugioh duel monsters and 5ds is difficult to pin down, but the 5ds movie in particular suggests a long time has passed by the time of 5ds, so Yugi and his companions wouldn't be around at the time of zero reverse. This is an interesting and dark theory, but I just don't agree with it.

As the timeline, even with the first 3 shows (as cohesive as it is compared to later on), is still pretty vague. So it's a bit of a mystery as to what REALLY happened to Yugi Muto. For how long after DM 5Ds takes place. Well Ushio from the original is a Cop in 5ds. Granted we don't know how old he is but... Still. He is there. So by that point a lot of the characters from DM should be hypothetically alive.

@@StareachValcin The Time Travel aspect is irrelevant, as Goulchan stated Ushio Trudge the cop in 5ds is the exact same Ushio Trudge who went to Domino High School with Yugi and bullied him. Leading to Atem inflicting his first penalty game onto him in the first chapter of the manga, it's confirmed to be the same person. Yugi is younger than Ushio Trudge so the time difference aside; age wise he would still be alive at the time of 5DS. Given Seto Kaiba is not the CEO of Kaiba Corp anymore, and Yugi is not mentioned outside of the Bonds Beyond Time Movie it is a reasonable conclusion that Yugi and Kaiba were caught in Zero Reverse. But your original point is incorrect, Yugi would be alive age wise at the time of 5Ds. So would Kaiba, the only character confirmed to be dead around this time is Pegasus himself which makes sense given he was already well into Adult Hood by the time of DM.

So, while a lot of this makes sense, there is something that is worth noting, the main stadium for 5Ds in the sub is known as memorial stadium, and there are names shown for who it’s a memorial to, and while Pegasus is on that list, yugi and kaiba aren’t, and I doubt they would be lumped in with the “all who lost their lives to the disaster” line

Yugi’s Deck that Dimitri uses (it was on tour) has chaos monster retrains and is still acknowledged by Yusei & Jack as the King of Games in BBT and even back in GX where many characters desired to be the next king, which presents a different rating system to the Pro League with The D 5D’s is at least 20 years in the future due to Yusei’s age and an unknown amount of time for Synchro & Riding Duels to enter the public for Ener-D Yugi’s whereabouts in 5D’s are unknown similarly to his unknown journey in GX, but considering how knowledgeable he appears to be (in a vague/mysterious sense) on top of 5D’s already starting in an altered timeline due to Yliaster and branching timelines if to use Duel Links, it’s not hard to imagine many different destinies for him in hope & despair

@ 6:14 My take on BBT is that it takes place prior to Yugi/Atem’s duel against Jaden. Given that Jaden never brought it up, both sides could work: one where Yugi and Atem forgot they met Jaden or one where Yugi and Atem had not yet met Jaden. The timeline of the original YuGiOh series takes place over the course of at least a year if not two, so time skips are definitely taken into consideration. The events of BBT and S4 Finale could take place during those time skips. Plus, the S4 finale froze time while Jaden was there and depicted a fictional second Battle City Tournament on the flier Jaden finds when he bumps into Yugi and they duel suggests time had passed since Battle City, and maybe even the Orichalcos arc since we’re talking Anime timeline. Yugi also notices the time freeze, so he doesn’t worry about being late for school until his time with Jaden is up. The reason for this is that Yugi does remember the events of Jaden’s time travel and when he meets up with Jaden in episode 1, he gives Jaden the Winged Kuriboh he found at any time up to a decade prior. Yugi himself mentions that Winged Kuriboh belonged with Jaden, but made it vague to give Jaden a clue about the card being the one that chose him, rather than Yugi himself. This is a wonderful video! my personal theroy is that yugi made a new deck for himself. When he and the pharoh made a deck it was THEIR Deck, and even the one he used to fight atem, had to share cards with what would eventually become atems deck. I think that when yugi saw the duel academy, and pro dueling, basically a game that in multiple times in the anime he expresses wanting to "Play a tournement without the fate of the world at steak" he was traumatized, thinking if he was a teacher, or some kind of proctor, he would just lead darkness into duel academy and ruin another of kaiba's projects. By now Kaiba sees yugi as a great duelist, and the legitimate king of games, but with a mix of pride, and probably yugi asking him not to make slypher red synonomus with the "king of games" so that new duelists can find their own path, kaiba makes oblisk blue the top dorm, to personify strength and power in a duelist. over time Kaiba falls out of managing the school because he realizes his old friend yugi is becoming more and more withdrawn, he starts to blame himself for how he treated yugi and the fact that yugi's friends all seperated and the poor kid basically had to give back his wish from the melenium puzzle. The darkness stuff happens, and afterwords kaiba basically says to yugi "Look i don't know what's gotten into you, but i have a student at duel academy who is exactly like you, so you're going to go to that display, get your old deck, and duel the duel of a century", yugi's deck responding to it's master in pain, transports jaden into that dimention, he duels prime yugi, but that spirit, of happiness and love of the duel, connects them both, setting in motion the past events where yugi gives winged koriboh to jaden, as a "thank you" for returning his dueling spirit. I suspect he saw the events of 5d's transpiring (as we know trudge is an X classmate of yugi's.) and now with his deck, his motivation, and his dueling spirit he goes off to save the world, finally ready to be the hero again...but he fails. this new "syncro summoning" is too much for his old deck to handle, so he and his deck, go to the spirit world, he is reunited with atem, who says that he is beyond proud of him, and that while he may have failed and fallen in battle, he preserved the heart of a duelist, a heart that will reach beyond time and space, and one day, bring together the duelists needed to save the world. when Yusei is born he enherits the heart of a duelist, yugi sees what being the "pharoh of duel monsters" is about, and he finally accepts what he did, was exactly what fate needed, and spends his afterlife with atem and his friends, understanding fully his legacy in duel monsters.

Nicely put. This is very believable in terms of behind the scenes before near GX to the end of GX to the near start of 5D's. As everyone from the original Yugioh series did most likely pass away from the Zero Reverse disaster. Although I wonder about Jaden and his friends because Zane and his little brother last name was mentioned in 5D's at one point and seems to be told of them turbo dueling now somewhere.

Yeah Kaiba most likely dies to the Zero Reverse so you’re right on that. Yugi it’s more up in the air though. The Ener-D (which was a later rendition of a dueling energy harnessing and transformation system Kaiba built in GX) and Synchro We see Kaiba’s goons shooting at Dr. Fudo with Lasers after he tries to stop the project before people die, so Kaiba clearly didn’t want the project to end when he was so close Then the zero reverse happens XD thanks for building that thing KaibaCorp. Not to mention the literal Satany satan earthbound immortals use the Ener-D to recharge, so kaibas fault again. Yubel light of destruction also his fault, he also crashed a satellite into a building in duelist kingdom on purpose, and also a whole bunch of bad stuff happens at duel academy like missing kids (which since Gerard got beaten by kaiba he was gonna expose this stuff & shut DA down, but then got distracted with dueling so never happened) and then kaiba prolly used duel academy as a front for his duel energy/duel spirit experiments, not a coincidence he owns the school & land with the sacred beasts (divine monsters, and we know how Kaiba gets around god cards XD) and yeah I could go on. Bros a lot more devious than people think. Not to mention takahashi the creator literally said he was a villain like twice in interviews ‘he regressed to a villain role like death t with madness in his eyes’ in an interview on DSOD, and also said ‘Kaiba is my favorite villain, I’m obsessed with him’ in another interview. Not to mention he was literally supposed to be a Spider Man villain in the Secret Reverse (strangles iron man with BEWD tentacles) but because of licensing issues marvel said no. So he made an OC named ‘Kaioh’ XD So yeah Kaiba was meant to be canonically a spiderman villain

Yeah I liked yugioh everythings Kaiba is the devil theory and there was some great stuff in there, funnily enough tho I saw ppl saying in the comments that ‘Kaiba wouldn’t make a deal with the devil’ even though in the Pyramid of Light Novel, him with Anubis is literally described as him making a deal with the devil. LOL I myself have a theory that Kaiba was trying to use the (since Ener-D’s 0 reverse released the earthbound immortals as a gate to the underworld, and the dueling energy system can pierce dimensions as seen in GX) was trying to use the Ener-D to open a gate to the underworld to possibly fight & beat Yugi (who is his eternal rival so after atem leaves he’d have Yugi as his rival) in a card game because Iliaster killed him or, there was an accident or something. Which is why he was so obsessed with completing the project, just like how DSOD Kaiba was obsessed with completing the gate to the underworld too. Plus after inventing synchro he’d have all new Synchro cards to face Yugi with once he pierces dimensions. XD A fun explanation! And also explains a lot of stuff

1. I feel like Dark Side of Dimensions, despite dollowing the manga timeline more than anything, kind of confirms that Yugi would make go on to make his *own* personal deck. One that still has some of the same cards as the shared deck he and Atem had, but its mostly a different deck. 2. Here's the thing, Konami all but confirmed that Yugioh as a series exists in a multiverse through Duel Links where Paradox, Aporia, Antinomy and Z-One realise that their time travel shenanigans created a branching timeline with countless potential results to various events. So this theory could be just as valid as one where Yugi just moved on from Dueling professionally, had a family and just grew old. Fun Fact: One of the billboards for WRGP in 5DS claims the Pegasus J. Crawford Memorial Foundation" as one of its sponsors. Making Pegasus of all people one of the only characters from the OG series *confirmed* to be dead in 5DS

So I feel like the possibilities are endless when it comes to trying to figure out what happened to Yugi. Duel Links is an interesting case as it does confirm a multiverse so it just opens up the door to more possibilities. Duel links is a weird case because the Pegasus in it, references both his anime and manga memories. Mokuba apparently mentioned the Russian roulette dinner from the manga but also references the virtual world at some point. So i feel like Duel links is somehow based on both at this point.

I definitely think both Yugi and Kaiba died during the Zero Reverse incident, I don't believe he lost to Darkness though simply due to the fact Kaiba warded it off. Kaiba is the LAST person to be warding any darkness off if you are familiar with his backstory and character (Bro was a psychopath). I know DSOD is manga canon only, I still think Yugi being the better duelist between them carries over to the anime canon as well. I believe the only reason why he never considered Yugi his rival in the movie is due to him being absent from the ceremonial duel in the manga, he never saw Yugi defeat Atem so never considered him his rival. (Speaking of this though I can't remember for the life of me how Kaiba even found out about Atem returning to the afterlife, because he wasn't there at all he was in America during the final saga in the manga.) For me given that we don't see Yugi duel at all in GX, I think he probably retired sometime between that 10 year gap, perhaps around the same time as Kaiba himself. Perhaps he followed his DSOD footsteps and became a game developer, or took over his Grandpa's Game shop when he retired only to eventually be caught in the cross fire of Zones time fuckery.

I guess another hypothesis I have is that Yugi made a new deck. The deck that Dimetri plays is Atem's deck. Yugi in the ceremonial duel uses gadgets, gandora, and the silent cards. Possibly thats what Yugi duels with later on. The end of the show as supposed to remove Yugi's imposter syndrome. What better way to do that other than using a new deck while Atem's deck is left as a relic to be admired just like the history of Eygpt.

I think there’s a good chance that Yugi is dead during 5ds. They lowkey confirmed it in a conversation in bbt (which is confirmed to be canon). Jack was basically saying I wish I could duel Yugi but I’d need to time travel for that. It’s not 100% confirmed but I’d say he’s most likely dead. I’m not sure if we’ll ever get an official confirmation.

That was little Yu-Gi-Oh in GX intro, I thought that was atem :0 Little Yu-Gi-Oh really did get beefed up and he did good for himself. I thought it was evidence that Seto was ended during the Zero device was created as it was told through a flash back or something. I still have not seen season four of GX as it was not dub / fan dub unfortunately.

Hey Chris nice theory. Do you think Yugi's deck being on display is just a replica? I may be looking too far into this, but the deck is fully stacked instead of layed out. What's the point of a piece of art if you can't display it's beauty. Possibly in the anime timeline Yugi went on a journey to pursue making other games similar to the art that Takahasi drew after DSOD. Overall nice theory and video. I recently got back into yugioh and if you're making any more videos I'm looking forward to watching them.

That’s fine. I understand where you’re coming from and I can also understand if this probably isn’t something with a whole lot of clear cut evidence. It was a fun little theory I came up with on the fly, truth be told. As it’s all pretty open ended and not a whole lot of information is given directly to us as to what exactly happens to Yugi. Maybe in this scenario Kaiba held Battle City 2 shortly after Atem left,Yugi won and retired after that realizing that dueling without Atem just isn't the same anymore 🤗 But thanks for the idea. Never thought about such scenario but if I put myself in his shoes ... Well sharing a body with him over that time, all they went through and then bye. Wouldn't blame him to say dueling reminds him too much of old days

Yugi is the King of Games. Having his deck on display there's many reasons for it. At the end of Season 4 of GX Yugi was shown at the exact area where his replica deck is to show Jaden what's he's missing and forgot, to always fun dueling. Yugi didn't retired from dueling. Yugi made a promise to Atem and Yugi will keep that promise. Yugi didn't give up or lost the will to duel as he love the game very much and with such passion you won't ever let go what you love. If Yugi was ever shown in GX in the duels it would've been like Dragon Ball Super with Beerus and Whis as Yugi is absolutely way to powerful of a duelist. Yugi would lower the intense tension in GX. Keeping Yugi out of the picture for 98% of the time was very smart on their part. Another a true duelist doesn't retire. Kaiba haven't, Yusei haven't, ect. Dueling is their passion. And for Darkness, No Yugi wouldn't have been affected because he already conquer his fears, just like Jaden did which is why Jaden wasn't affected. Darkness would probably tried to tell Yugi something about having Atem by his side again but Yugi would turn down the offer as Yugi knows the decision he made long ago after beating Atem was the right choice, letting his spirit rest with his past Egyptian friends. Yugi I think intentionally wanted Jaden to deal with Darkness because its the NEXT Generation that needs to stand up against future coming events, not the PAST generation. Dragon Ball Goku and Vegeta stated this to their friends and family. They can't and shouldn't be relying on them every time and Gohan knows this. Its the same with Yu-Gi-Oh GX as to the GX logo stands for Generation Next.

Honestly your theory is very insightful and it also makes sense. While I do have this theory of Yugi’s as a video and it’s one I believe in. I’m also of the belief that it’s pretty open ended. Especially with Duel Links confirming the existence of a YuGiOh multiverse. I feel there’s many different paths Yugi could have gone down and they would all be equally as feasible. Also I loved your comparison of Dragon Ball Super and how Goku is still the current protagonist and it lowers the stakes and tension as it takes place between the end of z and end of the Buu saga. Your theory makes sense and is just as feasible. Thank you!
