Sir This is one of the best video I have seen on How to. Hats off to you! On smaller bikes I use a clean rope in the piston if I'm at the track. We do use 15-40 in our bikes dozier, backhoes and tractor. We have also use a combo of ATF and motor oil. Nice choice of sleds too! Have a great race season

@turdpike5 жыл бұрын
Craig Steinman that sounds more like clutch slip than clutch grab. Springs are more suspect there. Notchy baskets usually cause clutch grabbing, where it’s as if it won’t engage and the bike wants to keep chugging forward

I have a 2001 Yamaha yz250f four stroke do you know if the clutch replacement would be the same? I noticed your bike is a 2 stroke. I’m new to the world of dirt bikes. When I start the bike with the clutch pulled in it fires right up then when I release it (still in neutral) the bikes stalls. I’ve been told the clutch might need to be replaced.

I did my bike the same way as you were doing and a small ball bearing fell out where does that go
@turdpike4 жыл бұрын
small bearing? the only bearing involved with the clutch goes between the clutch rod plunger and the pressure plate itself. If that makes sense. Go to BikeBandit or Rocky Mountain ATV/MC and find a parts diagram. You'll see it on there

Does it matter what order the friction plates and steeles go in when putting the new clutch back on

Yes, they must alternate. Friction first, steel, friction...repeat. Should start with a friction and end with a friction when you have them all on

Can you please make a video on how to chamge a crank seal? I got a 2007 yz265 ( bored ) and my right side crank seal is leaking. I subbed..please make a vid. Nobody else has ome
@turdpike7 жыл бұрын
Alec Thayer unfortunately I don’t have a reason to get access to mine/change mine yet. But in the future I can. Essentially all you have to do is take the complete right crankcase cover off, and pick the old one out and tap a new one in. So you’ll have to take off the kick starter, water pump impeller, and will need to remove the big gear on that end of the crankshaft. Then you’ll see the seal
@ak47man20027 жыл бұрын
Do i need any special tools? Can i just push the new crank seal in?
@turdpike7 жыл бұрын
Alec Thayer all i ever use to drive seals in are sockets and a hammer. Works fine. No special tools to do any part of the job at all, you will need a new paper gasket though for the crankcase cover itself. You won’t even need to take clutch cover off either. It’ll come off with that whole half
@ak47man20027 жыл бұрын
turdpike i think i can do it honestly. I just got bad anxiety and am over cautions when it comes to my bike lol i have had experience rebuilding top ends ans doing jetting and stuff just not the best when it comes to all these gears and lots of bolts. Also, will i need to torque or lock tight anything?
@turdpike7 жыл бұрын
Alec Thayer Only way to learn is by doing! And before you know it you’ll begin to realize how easy it all is. No you shouldn’t need any Loctite or anything. Just take your time, grab some rags to set things on exactly the way you took them off and you’ll be fine
@harro94474 жыл бұрын
So I need to do this for my yz is there a gasket for the clutch cover or what is there ?
@turdpike4 жыл бұрын
There’s an o-ring embossed in the cover itself I believe, but if you’re careful enough you shouldn’t need to change it. Make sure it is seated in its groove before you bolt it back on

Hey @turdpike i have a 98 yz250 and i lost all clutch i took all this off and my basket is super grooved from the plates also my basket moves up and down does this mean my inner bearings are gone?
@turdpike5 жыл бұрын
Cody Neef if the basket has deep groves then yes it can cause the clutch to grab/drag as if it wasn’t working at all. If you’re tight on cash you can file them down a bit, but keep in mind that is a one time only thing that you shouldn’t do again. As far as the up and down play- it may be the bearing or the bushing or a combo of the 2. Although that you’ll have to decide for yourself as that’s harder to diagnose from here
@slepton92635 жыл бұрын
@@turdpike when i grab and apply pressure like the basket is supposed to do to the spline i get no up and down wiggle play so im guessing maybe its worn basket/washers/push rod my clutch had no metal ball bearing when i took it apart previous owner did the clutch maybe he forgot it and thats why i am in this issue idk?

Hey man, I just got a new Pro X clutch basket. The kickstart gear doesn't protrude past the face of the basket, its slightly recessed. Will this be a problem even with the spacer for the inner hub?
@turdpike3 жыл бұрын
I’m a bit confused, you’re saying the big gear on the back of the basket isn’t engaging with the kickstart idler gear?
@aarfdood3 жыл бұрын
@@turdpike Thanks for the reply. No, I bolted the large gear to the back of the basket, but when I pressed in the small gear, it did not extend beyond flush with the inside of the basket. So when I put the basket and inner hub back on the bike, they both spin together. So if your looking at the inside of your basket, you will notice the face of the starter gear that is pressed in is raised, mine is not....
@turdpike3 жыл бұрын
Ahhh I see what you are saying now. That is odd- I’m trying to picture the last time I had mine apart to compare. But it’s as if the pro-x basket is thicker eh? Stupid question but when you pressed the small gear on you’re certain it’s seated as far in as it can go? With the spacer thrust washer in between the hub and basket they shouldn’t touch each other and spin independently for sure. Something seems odd. I’d be curious to take a measurement somehow of the thickness of both the baskets in that area. If there’s a difference maybe it’s worth getting a hold of Pro-x to ask what you’re supposed to do
@aarfdood3 жыл бұрын
@@turdpike Thanks for reply man.....yeah, the Pro X basket has to be thicker, which is weird cause their basket fits like 93-2016 YZ's....Maybe wrong part in box or something. Im just hoping for a refund now! Great video btw!
