there is actually a specific anti vehicule grenade for the famas that is shot with real ammo, fun fact you have to use a special position to use it due to the recoil, if you don't the rifle will slam you in the face, you can tell in training who didn't because they have two mark of the handguard on the face

22:47 - The Soviets and the NATO both developed 40 mm grenades for under-barrel grenade launchers. Rifle grenades can vary in caliber greatly. French AC58 anti-armour rifle grenade is 58 mm in caliber, while dual purpose APAV 40 is 40 mm, both are fired from FAMAS.

Forgotten weapons has a few good videos on the em2, I’m not sure if he coined the phrase but he referred to it as ‘the best Cold War rifle that never was’ and it’s notably very light, worked, and had standardised optic sights (no magnification but still a step above iron sights) and only back up iron sights

the carrying handle on the AR was originally just a shield for the charging hook. it only incidentally became a "carry handle" when the hook got moved rearward and became the modern charging handle. though the way the military explains it is mostly dumb or incomprehensible each time it's brought up

Bullpups CAN be ambidextrous! The F2000 is a great example of this. Basically you can make the rifle extract either downwards or even forward. F2000 does the latter and it is engineered really well. There is a tube which channels the spent casings forth and fits 3 casings at the time. When a new one enters the tube the oldest casing is just gently pushed out. Again, it seems to be so weak that you'd think there are reliability issues but just like the P90 magazines, FN does magic with their designs. The ONE downside of bullpups which Zach forgot to talk about though is that they are very hard to access when there is a malfunction. You often have to take the weapon apart which isn't a good thing. Some cleverly designed bullpups can sidestep this issue but conventional designs have this by default. Another issue which is often brought up yet not quite a problem for militaries is the trigger pull. Almost every bullpup has terrible triggers. Technically you can also solve this but then it makes the weapon more complicated so it'd need lots of smart engineering to solve. Military triggers are usually bad to begin with so this is not a special problem, albeit a common complaint for hobby shooters.

"The Guns of John Moses Browning" by Nathan Gorenstein is an excellent biography of JMB, that also goes over some of the myth around his gun designs, but the most impressive thing I gleaned from it, is he started as a blacksmith helping his father, then revolutionized several categories of arms by 1900. He got his start fixing flintlocks. And he himself( and his brothers) never left the blacksmith forge for prototypes.

6:00 Yeah despite being developed in the 40s the EM2 had a lot of aspects that were ahead of it's time, the only problem I've found with it (at least in H3VR) is that sight is so far above the barrel that you run into problems especially in close quarters where the bullet is hitting much further down than where you're aiming

The modern and much more easily accessible versions of a rifle grenade launched would be the Can Cannon. It's an AR-15 upper with a 40mm tube that works just like a blunder buss with blanks. That being said, i want one chambered for .308 instead of 5.56 so i can load in what ever i want. That way i can launch it with enough force to perhaps "mist" a rat or two.

19:21 So with the FAMAS using steel case ammo it is an engineering compromise with delayed blowback weapons generally that is made. So with delayed blowback weapons the mechanism that determines the rate of fire, extraction pressure, and all that jazz is a wedge on the bolt carrier that moves the locking lugs, rollers, flaps, or levers from a locked position to an unlocked position. The benefit of this is that if you know your ammo is going to be higher pressure you can fit the army with a certain bolt specification without changing or retooling a bunch of rifles and it is something that can be done with a field strip. The FAMAS engineers were probably concerned that the gun might have trouble taking different qualities and ages of bullets with the number of countries in NATO so they went for a higher extract pressure. The consequence of that decision was that the gun has basically double the rate of fire from the M16 and issues with brass cased ammo so the French army decided to just change the ammo because that would be cheaper and easier on the economies of scale that state arsenals have. You will also find that other delayed blowback weapons have an easier time with steel cased ammo as well. If you have a SIG AMT, a G3, MP5, PTR 32, Calico, Zenith, or whatever try it with steel case and you will see you have a much easier time with case ejection. Downside is that they get real heavy with steel.

The Saiga 12 is a gun I love to use on Stalker Anomaly. Is a great gun to tear through the Monolith.
@Finwolven
@Finwolven 2 жыл бұрын
Saiga does have a specific receiver, because the magazine well needs to be a lot bigger - I think it's even slightly extended from a regular AK-47. I think there's some adjustment to the bolt carrier rails too, to accommodate the bigger bolt head, but I'm not sure. It's been a while since I last saw a field-stripped Saiga. AK variants don't really have 'lowers' and 'uppers' like an AR, anyway, there's the receiver and parts just sit in there, and there's a top cover that's just held in place by a slot and a spring latch. What I find funny about the 'butchered' AK-74 is that there are variants with shorter barrels, and it doesn't even look _that_ short, the AKS-74U is a lot shorter than that. The game version does look heavily Bubbaed, though.

The Saiga 12 does not have the reliability of an AK. The gas system had pretty bad teething issues. It still is only reliable with a narrow variety of loads compared with pretty much any other SA shotgun. Honestly it's pretty overrated in my opinion. Another downside to bullpups is that the trigger is far away from the rest of the firing mechanism and the linkages between the two create a worse trigger pull experience which could also create less acurracy

I don't like the FAMAS for various reasons. The gun operates at the thinnest sliver within tolerance of the cartridge it fires. It also reminds me of the terrible initial design of the AR-10 where the carry handle was there solely to protect the charging system and made using optics prohibitive. I've heard tell of the plastic parts including the cheekpiece. As with most bullpups of this 20-30 year era they look like plastic pieces of trash. As an aside I am largely biased by how undesirable I find 5.56 NATO to be as an intermediate cartridge, anyways. .30 caliber cartridges will always be a superior intermediate cartridge in my mind.
