The concept of the Preparenator is awesome. It could become a returning thing for conventions. For the next iteration it would be cool to add a few tasks like igniting something, saw/cut through a pvc pipe, remove/cut a nail, pierce a hole in something in a kind of precise way.

Here is a list of 10 items to add (posted 2 days ago but apparently censored for some unknown reason so I will try again) 1. Make 3 cuts on galvanized chain link fence wire to prove you could cut your way out (many tools fail after 1 cut) 2. Candle: light it 3. Can opener: save some empty clean food cans and cut a couple of inches open on the bottom. 4. Clean small dab of honey off of board to simulate bad day in toilet that had no Toilet Paper. 5. Show dressing you would use to cover large knife wound on shoulder. 6. Spork test: bring small cooler with dry ice and have them take a scoop of hard frozen ice cream out of container into a small dixie cup and eat it without making a mess (no cheap plastic spoons need apply) 7. Spare battery/cables: start recharging your phone 8. Cordage test: show what you would use to tie up your quarter panel on your car to get home if someone hit it in the parking lot and it was rubbing on your tire. 9. Credit card failure: show at least $100 emergency cash 10. Point in the direction of North (compass test)

Nuts guys; sick, and damn cool! Loved the idea, plus the presentation rocked. Well done. I think the principle could be expanded to include to test other important items. SCISSORS (rounding the corners of a 3"×5" index card while holding it in the air [because we can't always utilize a flat service to aid in cutting tasks].) LASHING MATERIALS (two dowels to be lashed together with paracord, zip ties, etc [also note here knot-making efficiency; timed, and scored also on security of knots].) FIRE (1. working lighter, or 2. tools adequate to throw sparks, plus tinder material on possession) FILE (Round the sharp corner on a piece of metal.) SAW (Saw through 1/2" dowel) AWL (Bore a clean hole through a 1/2 sheet of wood.) DRINKING CONTAINER, 16oz min. POWER BANK with cableing. NOTE-TAKING CAPACITY. (Pad of paper, etc.) A MARKER (Test on wax paper) 1 LITER EXTRA CARRY CAPACITY (Any means of hands free storage capacity of a 1 liter item [as in extra room in a sling bag, etc].) TWEEZERS (Pluck a pellet out of a hole too narrow for pliers) INSET RATCHET NUT (most common sized nut very snugly tightened, PLUS inset, thus too awkwardly for pliers; rewards those carrying a mini ratchet set.) These are just a few ideas, I'm sure innumerable other ideas exist. Finally, weight all tasks numerically based on difficulty (maybe totalling 100), so that each contestant achieves a ranking based on their grand total. Whether or not you choose include with the swag of prizes a leather bound, signed "Preparonator Certificate of Excellence" for those scoring over, say, 75 points, is completely up to you. :-)

I really love this concept, maybe have a suggestions post/video for the next version, obviously don’t announce which tests will be included. Making a connection for a wiring circuit, crimping a connector, removing a nut/bolt with limited access, opening/closing a bleed valve. Showing a selection of materials and asking (for example) how would you make a sawzall handle with your edc? Show the tools they would use and describe method. It’s alright having tools but can you solve problems with them? Deduct points if they have titanium, They don’t have duct tape on them, colour matched tools, anything that has tactical in its name, anyone who says loadout who cannot prove he/she is (ex) military, pointless lanyards, fidget toys, any toys at all, patches on their pouches or bags, instantly disqualified if they say I usually carry … damn I rotated that out of my edc.

@@nunninkav I have wire strippers and i do use them if it's about thicker electrical wires where i then have to press on ferrules for further use. But often times i have to work with thin telecom wiring where one end is on a Krone LSA-PLUS and the other end needs to be stripped from isolation. And there i use the knife for the wire stripping. the self adjusting wire stripper often times has problems with the thin wires, and the ones you adjust yourself i don't have in my toolbox and in the time i have adjusted them i already have stripped half of the wires of one LSA block... I learned that during an internship in a telephone system installing company long ago. I used the small swiss army knife i had in my pocket as we only had one wire stripping tool with us.
