Great Video I just spent a bunch of time fishing for Tog in AC NJ. Saw a bunch of guys fishing this rig but was not sure how to tie it. I had one with the hook higher and prob did not present well also I kept the line taught at the weight and suspect this kept the hook and bait floating. Also had circle hooks until later in my time. I finally caught two after I had a rig more like this. Thanks for taking the time to make this.

Really depends on the class of fish but I always fish a bit heavier than needed, just in case big momma rolls through! Haha Consider the class of fish and how your fishing them. Kayak, casting, boat, pier…

Sweet rig. I don’t do too much vertical jigging but if I get a chance I’ll try it out. I love making my own rigs cuz I’m a broke cheap ass and tackle gets expensive when I constantly lose it

Tautog is all vertical for me. I use 2 hooks and a 3oz bank sinkers. We find a hot spot In a boat . Some days we can catch 25 or 30 a piece. Hahah....

I might start using this rig for sheeps. It seems faster and easier to tie than the traditional bottom rig. You ever fish the cbbt for togs?
@ZackBostick4 жыл бұрын
Sheep love the rig too! When I target the sheep, I usually tie the hook a little higher. No I have not, my fishing on boats and yaks is pretty limitied. Needs to change!

It's important to keep the hook as close to touching the bottom, without it laying down
@ZackBostick Жыл бұрын
Yessir! I try to have it so the hooks is basically floating.
@jamie.777 Жыл бұрын
Tautog fishing is all about setting that hook (circle hooks NEVER work). You gotta tear through that tough tautog Lips. There like leather, you gotta really set hook. But only after the nibble for a few seconds
@ZackBostick Жыл бұрын
I’ve never used circle hooks for em. Know a few people who do and catch fish but I won’t be going down that route!
@seankang84484 жыл бұрын
Why not the circle hook?
@ZackBostick4 жыл бұрын
Tog fishing, I set the hook. Most people do. I am sure some use circle hooks, but you dont set hook with circle hooks. Tog have a very subtle bite and being able to react with a hookset will increase hookin em. I have found they like to crush bait and spit it with the hook. Robbin you blind. Not saying circle hook is wrong, just not what I would use.

very helpful! do you think the fish are still at the ships? subbed
@ZackBostick5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! They are for sure. I know oceans east just got in some bait. Bait been hard to come by :)

That sinker would not work for me, I use cheap bank sinkers. That triangle 🔺️ would get snagged very fast
@ZackBostick Жыл бұрын
Yea, we fish a different type of structure (sides of concrete ships) a lot and the pyramids do the job. When fishing wrecks and or reefs, we use the egg sinkers. Def know what you mean though!
