Work Play Drive saves the day again! Was struggling with the air bag release. Got out the tablet and watched the video while fishing for the spring. Heard what to listen for just as I found the spring and heard the same sound. Of course with my luck once I got the first one released and tried to get the second, the first clicked back into place. It's all done now though...on to mapping the buttons. Thanks Mike!

the aux buttons are already in the module in your steering wheel. from what Joe is saying the only difference in the part you are installing is that button covers. If you pop off the blank place on your current steetring wheel controls you can simply pop in his buttons.

I’m got a question so I have a 2012 Dodge charger SRT8 I put a new gauge cluster in it 2018 model and I put a 2016 steering wheel with the SRT backlit airbag with the taser The cluster works but not the steering wheel everything plugs in the same, I wonder if I have to replace the clock spring to a newer model one or even if that is possible
@WorkPlayDrive2 жыл бұрын
Correct the light up steering wheel requires an additional power wire. I believe it’s a separate connector. I haven’t done this, but I’ve seen a KZbin video a while back where someone tapped another line I believe from the buttons to light up the SRT logo.

I've been trying to find videos on how to remove and install my faded steering wheel buttons. I'm assuming it would be this same process... guess I'll throw the dealership their $350 because I'm not trying to touch anything near an airbag. Lol Thanks!
@WorkPlayDrive4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the buttons are not expensive but the screw to remove the bezel is under the airbag. Just a tip I've seen a lot of people ruin their buttons using harsh cleaners, Armor all or similar treatments on the steering wheel. I recommend staying away from those and using warm water and a microfiber and when really dirty a general purpose cleaner highly diluted 50 - 75% water. .

Thanks for another well made instructional video. I am considering buying the aux. buttons when I order the Tazer. Their website makes it look very simple, just a matter of snapping off the blank and installing the provided 3 buttons, done deal. I snapped off the blank on my '16 Challenger Scat Pack and discovered that there is no independent movement, actually no movement underneath the blank. It seems to me that the whole cruise control mechanism would have to be replaced as you did in the video in order to remap the buttons. Am I not correct?
@WorkPlayDrive5 жыл бұрын
Thank you 🙏 Sadly FCA used random parts in this area some have pop off blanks with functioning contacts while other cars don’t. If yours does not have contacts then you will need to replace with the part I mention in the description.

Just did the swap in under an hour. Will probably attempt the mapping in the next day or two. Do you know if it's possible to map the track drive mode onto one of the three aux buttons? I think you can only map to a custom drive mode at this time. But he's got some cool stuff coming for these buttons. I've heard some rumors of testing a break out box so you can control external devices from the Tazer... Can't wait. There is only one that would work for me. It's the Razors Edge due to my Cervini's shaker. I'm waiting for one of my KZbin Buddies to put out his opinion on it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmmZlHWOqK99m9U

Just an observation, I started with the right side also, after a couple minutes it popped off and then started on the left side. After a frustrating ten minutes, I popped the right side down and went back to the left side. It popped within a minute, then the right popped off quickly also. Quick question. I have watched pretty much all your videos and I think they're great and help a lot. I want to do this mod as well but I was at Zautomotive and they sell the button over lays. I believe you just pull the cover off and insert the buttons they sell. I was just wondering if you know anything about this product they sell. It's advertised that you don't need to take the steering wheel apart and they sell for $45. Thanks

The overlays are a new product they came out with, but yes it's pretty cool where all you need to do is pry off the blanks and install their buttons. ...wish they were out last year :) could have saved me a lot of time.

Got the buttons from Zautomotive. They go in pretty slick. Just pry the blank off and insert the new ones. No removal of the airbag. Unfortunately they didn't work on my 2017 R/T. I sent pics to Zautomotive and apparently my existing switch bank is used on the 2018's. Different internally. They refunded the cost and I went with the OEM switch bank shown in the video.

From Joe Z "If you have adaptive cruise, you can use the remap function... BUT, it's sort of a double-map... so don't map the ACC on/off button as it'll do both the tazer function and turn ACC on and off, so that button can't be used. But the nearer and closer buttons can be mapped, and I coded the tazer such that they should only do the tazer function while ACC is off, and when ACC is on, the tazer ignores those buttons."

I just wanted to leave a warning for all the DIYs to be very careful with the wires contained within the yellow covering connecting to the airbag. Those wires are about 20ga and if the outer casing is nicked, cut or pinched when uninstalling or re-installing, the airbag light will stay on. Hopefully Dodge will never look under the airbag to see my handy wire fix.
