Hope you enjoy this "hack" I put together with the ATEM! How else are you bringing virtual callers into your livestream and hybrid setups?

I added a hdmi splitter to the out-Signal of the macbook and now have a monitor with audiojack for a wired headset for my moderator, who is in the studio next door.

I haven't done any virtual guests yet, but looking forward to the day when I will. Sadly, the person that was wanting me to live stream a conference including a couple of virtual speakers over zoom bailed on the company and the conference didn't get any live stream at all.

That happens. Keep your head up and keep networking and putting yourself out there. I've been through a lot of "nos" until I got a "yes"

Really concise. I kinda wish during the upstream key part you went back to an external camera at times. Going from your OS to the ATEM to the Guest’s shot is semi disorienting

Hi thanks for watching. It didn’t make sense to go back to my actual camera as I was trying to show people my settings adjustments in the software control as well as what was changing as I adjusted those settings. By switching between the multi view and full screen image of what I was adjusting live, it helps our viewers see in real time how these settings adjustments impact the shot (when it came to cropping and using the flying key this was extra important). Additionally as I mentioned multiple times in the video, I was doing this all on one computer - so I had to be able to switch between showing supersource and the actual virtual guest on FaceTime as I didn’t have any other computers available when I had recorded this.

This is great! Thank you for taking the time to share. Perhaps a silly question, but how are you crossing between the switcher and using the Internet for FaceTime simultaneously? I have the television studio and If I have the software control connected, I lose connection from the web. Vice-versa
@zephanmoses2 жыл бұрын
I was just using the command+tab shortcut to jump between applications on a Mac. I believe on a PC it’s control+tab or alt+tab. That allowed me to switch from the software control to the FaceTime application. But ideally as I mentioned on the video you would use two computers. You should not be losing internet connection by having a tv studio plugged in to your computer and software control open. You would lose the visual of having FaceTime open so again you’d need to have a second computer, one with FaceTime open and one with software control open.

@@zephanmoses thank you very much for the response and your expertise. If I am on the network using the TV studio and I try and go to a website while the tv studio is still connected, I lose either connection to internet or Connection to studio. I'm thinking I need a hub or something or somehow need to change the IP address 🤔. Work in progress...

@@pdgiles Typically you should be connecting the TV studio and your computer that operates the control software to an internet switch. I recommend a simple 5 or 10 port gigabit unmanaged switch. The switch is then plugged into your internet router. This way the computer can see the atem on the network and still retain an internet connection. I don't think I ever plug the atem in directly to a computer using ethernet. It always goes to an unmanaged switch (or managed if you have a networking and IT background).

Great content, I've been following your channel and your work. In your course do you perform mentorship or is it a one size fit all course? I'm interested in becoming a mentee.

Thanks for reaching out! Our course includes a Facebook community of our other course members who have gone through it and are actively out in the field putting the teachings to work. They are a great resource and then I also participate in that community to answer questions when the community doesn't have the answers.

Sorry I'm rewatching the section on the Mix Minus, I follow you on the explanation of how the Facetime feed is going into the Zoom mixer, and imagine the caller will hear what's going on from audio picked up from the Iphone, I'm a little confused how in sending the audio out to the Atem, how does it filter the audio from what's being picked up from the phone?
@zephanmoses2 жыл бұрын
Hey! So for this setup, the FaceTime caller's audio goes into the ATEM over HDMI. The Macbook Pro has an HDMI cable outputting into the ATEM Mini Extreme (that's how both the audio and video feed from the FaceTime caller will hit the livestream). The way the FaceTime caller was hearing my return feed was my microphone was run into the audio mixer and the mixer I use (Zoom Livetrak L8) has the ability to plug into the Macbook Pro using USB and the Macbook Pro sees the Zoom Livetrak as a microphone input. So when I was in FaceTime on the Mac, you saw me change the audio INPUT settings to the Zoom Livetrak and the OUTPUT settings to the HDMI cable. But alternatively, you could take a 3.5mm cable from the headphone jack of the Macbook Pro and run it into your mixer which would bring the FaceTime caller's audio into the mixer and you could then send that audio from the mixer to your ATEM. You'd simply need to make sure that the audio feed from your microphone was the only thing going into the computer as a return feed to the FaceTime caller. That's where Mix Minus comes in, your full mix (you speaking plus your Facetime caller) goes to the ATEM but your Mix Minus (only you speaking MINUS the FaceTime caller's audio) is sent back to them.

@@zephanmoses thanks for breaking it down. I’m re-reading it again where the big picture explanation i understand and rereading the details again on how you filter the audio out.

Question. But first: Thank you so much. But I need an advice about a workflow. I have a setup of 3 guest in a linear manner where the last guest will be connected with facetime. Problem: I can reach her just minutes before going life and while the show is on air. How to connect during a live session?
@zephanmoses2 жыл бұрын
You can connect during a livestream. You just keep that person muted until it’s their turn to speak. There’s not much else you can do.
