I take the flints out of old bic lighters. They often need to be broken in half to make them fit into a zippo. They are harder and last longer too. And free! Use two pairs of pliers to break open the bic. I do this in a large pot because the flint will fly out and you will never find it.

I thought the hole in the felt pad is there to keep a spare flint.
@zippo6 жыл бұрын
You're right. A lot of people use the hole to store spare flint, but the original purpose of the hole was to make the felt pad easier to lift. Either way, it's very useful!

I inherited a Zippo from a dear friend who died. The problem is that something seems to be stuck in the flint compartment, and I can't insert a new flint and can't seem to get whatever is inside out. Do you have a suggestion for me? Thanks for your help.
@Corpseplower2 жыл бұрын
Send the insert in to Zippo to see if they can repair it, assuming you haven't done so already.
@kensboy15632 жыл бұрын
@@Corpseplower Thanks, but what I did was to drill out the flint compartment with a small drill bit. I was then able to insert a new flint, and the lighter works great now. The drilling took a long time. I think the problem was that someone had inserted two flints at the same time. I appreciate your response.
@Corpseplower2 жыл бұрын
@@kensboy1563 If you ever run into another problem with it, definitely contact Zippo about a repair. The lighters are guaranteed under a lifetime warranty, assuming the damage isn't deliberate. Often times if Zippo themselves can't repair it, they will replace the damaged part(s). Definitely less of a worry if you get the case damaged (broken lid hinge, etc) or something happens to the insert that causes it to stop working entirely so you don't have to find a D-I-Y solution or worry about replacing a case you might happen to like with another that you don't.

how to fix a loose insert ?
@Heikki_Finland5 жыл бұрын
You could bend the case inwards but it's safer yet maybe harder to bend the insert outwards. Find your way, use pliers or hammer it with some punch in a proper setup. Not much is needed and it's worth the effort. Of course you can do temporary way and jam something like cotton between the case and insert.

Hello Zippo, images.app.goo.gl/7QhkMxhtracLp5476 That said, where do those Zip-A-Flint tubes go? They're made of plastic. I personally would rather have the flints wrapped in a humble paper. Less waste on earth, less guilt and less cost while still enjoying an iconic lighter that is the Zippo. Nothing's supposed to go to waste with a Zippo, unlike the mainstream disposable throwaway planned & perceived obsolescence culture that's everywhere. A fact about Zippo that I am so proud of. Just the plastic flint tubes that bothers my conscience.

Why it is important to replace the flint?
@zippo4 жыл бұрын
The flint is what makes the spark to ignite the wick. Eventually, the flint will wear down. When that happens, you'll need to change the wick.

It really depends on how often you use it. If you remove the flint spring, the flint will slide right out. This will allow you to see how much flint is left.
