To replace the wick on the Clipper lighter surely you just have to remove the wadding to reveal the wick. To help with evapouration on the Zippo, cut a section of old 1 inch cycle inner-tube (like a half inch wide rubber band). Stretch this over the outside of the case to cover the join between the lid and main body and the fuel cannot then evapourate. Just slide it down the body of the lighter to use it. You will get a little build up of petrol fumes inside the lid when first openinig. A quick blow before striking will soon disperse them. Your fuel will last a lot longer.

That's a good idea to make a custom O-ring for the lighter, if I don't want mine to evaporate I usually put it inside a small sealed bag.

David Cooper I use a tube on my Zippo and I love the time build up because it makes a big wooden of fire then goes to the normal flame also the kids is on fire for like 5 seconds very cool to me it keeps the fluid in it a lot longer I play with mine throughout the day so not sure how much longer it holds the fluid in

My dad gave me a Zippo it works very well and very practical for my uses. In my opinion a very good lighter for regular use and if you maintain it well they can last a very long time.

For a windproof lighter, my favorite is the old Dunhill Service lighters - I think they are better than a Zippo in that regard.

You review was honest and truthful...I like both lighters myself! Cut a rubber bicycle inner tube to fit around the zippo hinge and the fluid will last longer. Pull the wick out a little on the clipper to give you a better flame might help it a little as well as far as the wind is concerned,

Soilders back in ww2 and Vietnam use to lower there zippos into fuel tanks on a bit of wire or string to fill them up so you can use fuel in a zippo as well its just not recommended they also sell zippo gaskets that helps seal the bottom and stop the evaporation of the fuel

Had several zippos, some with a tighter fit than others. Had a couple that lasted about two weeks with regular use, smoking and all. Had some that only lasted a couple of days with light use. They're awesome on rainy days, but you have to accept that you will refill it more often than you'd like to, until the day you lose it. Also, the "ding" is quite nice.

I've found my IMCO has been much better than Zippos on average for fill time, my Brass zippo lasts about 2 weeks but my IMCO and last over a month on a single refill.

Yeah thanks to the O rings the fuel inside can only leak from the wick when the lighter is opened, you get a bit of discharge if you over fill like in the video, but it's back to lighting ever time now because it's returned to normal condition.

I think not pressing a button is better so Zippo if you have butane inserts, but a clipper would make a good back up lighter. Clipper is much cheaper as I can get like 4 for the price of 1 zippo.

You can buy inserts for zippo that has a rubber stopper at the bottom and a cap on the top.. runs on regular zippo fuel.. i bought one.. using it for 4 days now.. lets see how long it lasts.. How long does a zippo with full refill lasts?

I want to love my Zippo, but damn it evaporates fuel like crazy here in the American southwests dry air. However, the hinge wasn't closing the lid correctly & I mailed the lighter back to Zippo & they fixed it & mailed it back to me; no charge. 👏 Well done Zippo. So, I can't part with it. It's an American made classic. (I travel with a fuel can for it.)

Has the wick soaked up the fuel yet? Sometimes after filling you have to wait a while for them to absorb the fuel properly.

Weapon......93 Thanks very much for your quick reply and guidance.That should'ent be the case.I think as can be understood from your vids the problem is lower gas evaporation through wick in design of this lighter in comparison with zippo which starts usually by first striking. Well probably not... Seeing as they are fundamentally different. Butane is more like an aerosol can with a spark on the front, with the fuel being propelled out and ignited. While petrol lighters are more like candles with fluid reservoir. they aren't compatible.

Are they actually petrol, like from the pump or are they the lighter fluid like the zippo
@Weaponsandstuff93
@Weaponsandstuff93 6 жыл бұрын
Lighter fluid, you don't get petrol from a pump but gasoline, gasoline is refined petrol, the Americans actually use the correct name. Lighter fluid is generally a few types of raw fuels mixed together.

@MrAnakin1996
@MrAnakin1996 6 жыл бұрын
You can. Soldiers in WW2 dunked their Zippos in vehicle-tanks to refill them. (Like an "emergency" refill I think.) However it does not burn as cleanly as lighter fluid that is basically even more refined. That is my understanding at least… I would advice not using gasoline from a pump on a really nice Zippo, or indoors in tight spaces or for "excessive" use due to the fumes. But for a Zippo that you do not mind experimenting with and that you primarily use outside you can absolutely try it out.
