I don't work on Deere that often but we do have several freightliners with cummins. I've had that same problem with them, the doser will start to leak after a while and cause the crystals to form and block the hole. I keep new dosers on hand and change them out when that happens because its much cheaper to change them before they really act up and shut the truck down.

I'm impressed that you seem to take suspected parts needed with you on a service call. Obviously sometimes you are going to guess wrong or need something you don't expect. My local dealer seems to have the policy of never carrying any parts to an initial service call. Then the customer gets to pay for a second trip by the service man or in the alternative have to run for the parts themself. I have literally had a service tech tell me it would be cheaper for me to pay him to sit on his butt beside my tractor while I spent an hour to run for the part when I had told them on the first call what was broke.

I always try to take suspect parts if we have them in the stores. I also carry an array of different sensors, modules, controllers and cables with me, when you have been doing this job long enough you build a decent collection of parts on the service truck for the machines that you service and for us time is money we dont have the workforce to be driving round the country like a hairdresser 😁

Thanks for another great video ZK. It was interesting and enjoyable. You had an interesting variety of situations to look at on this video. It appears that a lot of these can be fixed pretty quickly if it was not for it location and all you have to remove to get at it. It is the old story of the tech and the engineers making it easy for one another. Seems some of the work could be avoided. But that is an old story. I thought you did great on all the situations and got them going fairly quick. But you had to remove so much stuff to get at the part. Nice job ZK. You got it. Know this is busy time for tractors. You take care. Thanks for everything ZK. The Iowa Farm Boy.

I don't know if that tractor has a egr, but I've seen dosing codes for a partially plugged egr on the pickups. The def lowers nox, and so does the egr. The pcm can't tell the difference between the two sometimes, it uses the same nox sensors to monitor both systems. If the egr flow is slightly down, the pcm assumes it's a dosing issue. All those systems are built by one manufacturer for all the tractors and pickups. Bosch is really cashing in on emissions systems.

Just goes to show, no matter what the machine, designers & assembly workers don’t work in field service, that injector assembly would of benefited being rotated towards the outside for better access. A hose clip can cause so much pain if fitted without thought, a lot of these are sub assemblies, then bolted together.

Don’t work on Deere but, do work on Thomas Buses with Cummins and that style doser valve and decomposition tube are notorious for the valve leaking and clogging up the tube. I always changed the valve, dropped the decomposition tube out of the exhaust system hosed it out with water to get the crystallized DEF out then put it all back together. Solved the problem every time. Those decomposition tubes have a grid towards the back and will collect crystallized DEF and eventually clog the whole tube. Glad Cummins went to the one box, it has seemed to eliminate that problem.

Back again. Now that I finished the whole video . That EGR valve it's the exact same on engine that i work on. DD5 detroit engine. A piece of crap but anyway on the egr valve there are 3 tabs on the side of the plastic housing. A small flat screw driver can pop that cap off on the inside you will see the circuit board and most likely some green corrosion. What happens the cap that seals it the rubber like ring fails and moisture gets in and well you know the rest. Dead egr valve.

I wouldn't be surprised on that def injector if they designed it that way knowing that there are clamps on that manifold for removal. I imagine their idea for service is to to remove the coolant hoses, undo the two flange clamps and remove the entire pipe/tube and work on it outside of the vehicle rather than in. I am not a mechanic and don't have to work on tractors but glancing over the entire thing and looking at how awkward it was for you that would not surprise me.

Zeth is there an additive that you can add to the DEF tank to keep injector clean avoid build up for future problems? Just wondering? Thanks for sharing your knowledge and techniques, definitely look you up at the next one. Stay safe!!
@marine2ful
@marine2ful Жыл бұрын
DEF is the most finicky fluid that is used in these machines. If there was an additive put in there, it would throw off the outlet readings pretty fast and would put it in de-rate for bad emissions output.
@Teredifa
@Teredifa Жыл бұрын
DEF quality is measured in the tank sending unit on most machines any kind of additive would run the risk off confusing the quality sensor. If you are having problems first try cleaning with warm clear water, if you have the ability to activate the injector and pump you can always run a few litres of clear water through the injector. DEF problems are not really that much of a problem anymore, if you understand the system its no biggie.

ZK awesome video. Question. When did John Deere needed to have def on their equipment? 2011? That's when on-road equipment needed to use def. I work on class 6 to 8 on road equipment. On the def dozer test. I work on Cummins all the time. I use a zip lock bag and zip-tie it to the dozer and then pour it into a beaker. The small def ring you see on the decomp tube 100% normal . Don't know how deep John deere software is. But for a cummins system. You should have a def pump override test and a def pump prime leak test. If the def dozer is leaking there will be excess def accumulating IN THE DECOMP tube I use a small bore-a-scope camera it fits in the hole just fine. If you see a small mountain of def. The Def dozer is bad.
