Quartz Quadrant Descriptions from the Wiki: Present: Quartz Quadrant is a purple-colored mine bustling with machinery located in Little Planet, and filled with crystals and conveyor belts. Some of the crystal is being transported while some are left lying around. Outdoors, some brown mountains with vegetation and a lake adorn the region's background. Past: Quartz Quadrant is a green, peaceful cavern where a very large quantity of crystals are lying in a type of ooze. Outside the cavern, a swamp/bayou is seen showing dead driftwood in a lake with green vegetation and purple mountains in the background. Bad Future: Quartz Quadrant is an over-mechanized, olive-green rusted mine under Dr. Eggman's influence where there are no crystals in the mines. A river of what appears to be lava or melted crystals runs through the bottom of the Round, with lots of machines near it. Outside the mines, miles of factories can be seen in the background, polluting the air in a red-orange sky. Good Future: Quartz Quadrant is an underground, green-colored utopia with glowing buildings hidden inside the Round's underground caverns. All of the mining has ceased by this point and opulent towers of crystals gleam through the darkness. Outside the mines, some futuristic, turquoise domes appear in the background, with mountains and forestry beyond them. A wall is seen at the mid-height section of the Round featuring the same type of domes. There are no active mines or swamps here in this timeline, but more crystals are found here than in any of the timelines.

One of my favourite tidbits about these songs is how the Present's call and response changes between each track. In the present, it's like you said it sounds like two forces battling, Eggman's machines, and the local flora and fauna, but in the past, the call is removed, and that version of the track chooses to build off of the response, letting the player hear the full extent of what nature was like before Eggman's invasion of Little Planet. On the flip side, the bad future version of this track gets rid of nature's response to Eggman's call, creating this eerie emptiness where something used to be, but no longer is, because the militant march of badniks has stomped all the life out of the quadrant. But of course, the good future version of this song brings back the present's way of doing things, with both the call and response intact, but unlike in the present, where they were fighting for the spotlight, the lower tempo lets Eggman and nature share the zone, taking turns to be in the listener's ears. If you couldn't tell, I really like this one :D A Sonic CD zone I'd like to see you react to next is Wacky Workbench. It comes between Quartz Quadrant and Stardust Speedway (assuming I'm not forgetting anything) and has my favourite past track in the game lol. Okay so, interesting note on CD's JP/EU tracks. That unique way that Quartz Quadrant present ended (and the way Good Future opened) is actually the section that bridges the end of one loop and begins the next. Sometimes uploaders put it at the beginning, sometimes they put it at the end, and many times it isnt included at all, which is why this is the first time you've heard something like that in these tracks. If you ever listen to the Palmtree Panic tracks I recommend the DeoxysPrime upload of the Bad Future (Labeled "B Mix") as it includes it to a really cool effect imo. Also, you listened to a remastered version of the Past track, which isn't necessarily wrong but it DEFINITELY sounds different, and not necessarily for the better.

A little extra info on the Mania versions. With the Stardust Speedways themes in Mania, Act 1 was based on JP Past, & Act 2 was based in JP Present ~ whereas with Metallic Madness in Mania, Act 1 & 2 are both (seemingly) based on JP Present. Also fun fact: The Mania versions are a rap battle between Sonic & Eggman! Act 1 is Sonic rapping, & Act 2 is Eggman rapping! 😅 (I don’t blame u if u can’t make out the lyrics.. it wasn’t until years later after the songs were made that the composer of Mania, Tee Lopes, (also the one doing the rapping) posted the official lyrics, because no one could fully understand them for the longest time…)

I would like to chime in here and recommend the US Album Version of Metallic Madness (Bad Future) from the Sonic the Hedgehog Boom Album. This soundtrack was released in 1994, a year after Sonic CD originally released. This soundtrack contains some of the original versions of the songs from the US soundtrack and some songs from Sonic Spinball, however some of the songs from CD like Stardust Speedway Present, Stardust Speeday Bad Future, and Tidal Tempest Bad Future have Different Variations in comparison to there in-game counterparts. Stardust Speedway Present has a reversing opening that leads into the main song, Stardust Speedway Bad Future has a middle section that is completely missing in-game, and Tidal Tempest Bad Future has an extended/unique opening. However, the song with the most substantial changes was Metallic Maddness (Bad Future) as it has a completely different beginning, it gives off a more dire vibe then it's original version, and it fits the tone of a desolate Bad Future even better then it's in-game counterpart version did! Due to the soundtrack only including the Bad Future Variant of Metallic Madness, it doesn't call it Bad Future and so it's just called Metallic Madness. If you wish for an different take on the US version of the song from the original creators, I would recommend you search up the Video Metallic Madness by Brianzilla2004 As well as the Sonic the Hedgehog Boom Album (1994) for some different takes on some US songs.

It's changes after the first 10-13 seconds are mainly in the guitar as it reaches higher notes then the original song to convey the dread of the Bad Future. It's composition is also a little different. The second half of the original song has a little hopeful section that makes the player feel like all is not lost. The album version plays a version of it a little bit earlier than in the original combining it with an earlier section makes it sound even more dreadful before and make it more uplifting. There's also a section in the original that had almost no back section to the song and was purely ambince (I kinda like it) It was removed which I think was for the best as to help the pacing of the song. Otherwise the changes are very minimal and mostly within the instrumentation of the song.

A cool thing you'll notice if you really listen to each track closely (excluding the US tracks) is that from past to present to good/bad future, they keep the same melody but add something onto it. In this case, past and present's melodies are only a few notes off from each other. If you add a couple notes in between the pauses, you'll actually hear present's theme. It's hard for me to explain with text, but if you listen to them at the same speed side by side, you'd probably notice what I mean.

Fun Fact about the US OST. A music CD album called *Sonic The Hedgehog Boom* was released in 1994. This includes OST mixes of the Sonic CD US soundtrack, plus some remix renditions of tracks from Sonic Spinball. The Sonic CD US tracks found in there can feature instruments and sections not heard in the normal versions in-game, such as Quartz Quadrant having an additional vocal and synthy ‘guitar’ section. There are also some fusion mixes of the Future themes that blend into each other. The one thing I've always liked about the US version is that getting a good or bad future makes you feel like you made a difference to little planet and the instruments along with the vocals help reinforce that idea/theory. But it gets tossed out when you reach wacky workbench and onward

As far as the US version of Quartz Quadrant Present goes, the best version to listen to would've been the one from the Sonic the Hedgehog: Boom album. That version has a bit of a melody to it to go along with the guitar as well as having the voices being more involved from the middle to near the end of the second half of the song. i honestly dont like the restored past tracks, some of the instruments are softer than theyre supposed to be. the whistling sound in QQZ past is supposed to be louder lmao. i think the song sounds better using the older soundchip. but as long as i can still hear that sick ass piano i dont really care
