Zurich's Garbage Tram

Zurich has something I believe no other city in the world has: a tram that comes all over the city to collect trash.

I love this idea! This is a beautiful nexus of passenger mobility and freight transport through repurposing retired fleets and providing alternatives to the usual "Dump it in, smash it down, drive around the Trashy Town."

There is some trash I have been meaning to get rid of so I'll give this a try. I am only 8000 kilometers away so it should be a quick trip too.

It makes sense for a garbage tram. Modern cities have underground waste collection points. These points obviously don't move around, so waste collecting service follows a rigid predetermined path. So like a highly serviced bus line gets upgraded into a tram line, we should do this with garbage collection too!

Zürich also has underground waste collection points! Although it Zurich, there are a lot of them, and I don't think that they're serviced regularly enough to warrant a tram :/

Very impressive. In Utrecht city, NL, you can rent a cargo bike or a car trailer for free from the municipality.

That sounds really cool! In Zurich you can rent normal bikes for free for the day from the city, but for cargo bikes you have to pay extra. Maybe they'll introduce this one day, who knows

Do you need to wait for the tram ? How do you know at what time it comes ?

The tram waits at the specified location for four hours based on a predetermined schedule found here: www.stadt-zuerich.ch/ted/de/index/entsorgung_recycling/publikationen_broschueren/fahrplan_cargo_tram_und_e_tram.html. It doesn't go through the whole city, but waits at one station, which is usually the last one.
