Welcome back! This time, I'm removing the engine and stripping the rest of the bike. Including making a few bespoke tools I needed along the way.
Thanks for watching!

Have to say this is a breath of fresh air! Proper diy job without a tool chest the size of a small car & in a proper work space & not an industrial unit! Brilliant! Look forward to following the progress 👌

Haha cheers! It is nice to see what’s possible in a modest space. Though it’s not lost on me my how lucky I am to now have this, having done countless jobs over the years on driveways with no power or heating 😂

Almost three years ago I did this with my '91 ZXR J1. I had romantic notions of pottering in the shed for an hour or two a few times a week and love every minute of it. Well, I spent 4-6 hours a day slogging for the guts of 4 months and it almost broke me but I got there in the end. My long suffering wife even allowed me to shove the rolling chassis into the kitchen for some of the re-assembly so that we could spend some quality time together and the kids didn't feel neglected, fun times! I'm amazed at how similar the engine is between this and the older brother. I take the ZXR out often enough during the summer and it always draws admiring looks and conversation from both bikers and Joe public, twin headlights and the hoover pipes make it look like it's doing 150mph even when it's just sitting still. Can't wait to see it all coming together. Great job as usual Tom, keep the fantastic quality content coming. The ZX7 is in my top 5 of all time best looking bikes ever built.

Thanks for the lovely comment, that’s good to hear about your J1, I agree, this era of bikes draws a lot of looks. And in my experience, more fun to ride 😁

Hi, nice job stripping the bike down, I restored my Suzuki gt750 a few years back, when I was reassembling it, I used marine grease for all the engine mounting bolts , headstock & swing arm bearings, & after 5 years the grease is still wet, look forward to the rest of your restoration 🤘

Allways liked kawasakis zxr/zx7r 750:s. Had a 1991 (green) back in those days and right now i have a zx6r 1995 green/white. I appreciate how great you edit the video and the videoquality aswell. You have quiet some skill about solving problems. Great how you fixed your own tools and that wooden seat you put together for the engine🙂👍👍. Videos like this i can get up 03.00 am (when the family still sleeps)at weekend and just make a cup of hot chocolate, and really enjoying it . Offcourse will i watch all zx7r episodes and i hope you restore more japanese 1990-2000 sportbike. I allways a fan of original shape with some minor adjustment like bolton/slipon perhaps😁👍.

Thanks, appreciate that! I’m the same, we got our puppy last year and he’d get me up at 5am needing a wee, so I’d make a coffee and stay up watching RRC Restoration videos before the kids got up 😂 Will do 👍🏻 I’ll be doing the same with my RVF400 once this one’s done

Ohhh, that looks like a ”foxeye” YZF600r in the background! I had a 1995 with that exact colorscheme as my first bike. It was imported from the UK and had 1800miles on it… Got to drive it for one summer, and got hit by a truck that reversed in to me in a intersection 😢 (he was about to leave clearence for a turning truck) and the bike was totaled… Miss that bike… Keep up the good work!

Oh man, i had a ZX7R In black, it was left unridden for a few years and became a project bike. But life and family happened and it got stored in the garage. I only recently sold it due to a house move. I wish i had seen this video series earlier, it may have saved me from selling it.

Ah man that's a similar story to how my FZR ended up needing a restoration. COVID lockdown was the shakeup that made me realise it needed to happen. Though I'm already missing riding the 7R!

Hey Tom, this is an all time favourite of mine. Had 3 in the past and wish I didn't sell any of them. Been hunting for a clean p1 but sadly in a year not a single one has come up. Will enjoy this series. Well done.

Cheers James! I hope you find one soon, the thing I hear most when out on it is “I had one, wish I never sold it” same for the RVF. So I’m gratefully benefiting from that implied advice to hold on to them!

I'm literally at this point in my journey. Got my bike for 300 parts bike. Changed the engine and put it all back together. Now working on fairings and taking bike apart to get her looking clean. Would be nice to have a title tho. But oh well

Great vids so far. I have done the same with a 1990 ZZR600 (now complete and back on the road) and I am in the process of doing a 1989 GPX750R. Currently in the rebuild phase, nearly ready for engine start. I already have my next project, a 1986 GPZ1000RX, ready to go once the GPX is complete. I'm looking forward to seing how you get on with this project. Well done though.

Another excellent video Tom liked the little helpers part and not forgetting Mandy’s I hope it was not one of Mandy’s cake tins you drained the oil into lol I know it’s obvious but put a label on the engine to say NO OIL all our new engines would always have a big notice on them

Cheers 👍🏻 It was a bit of a challenge the first time round as I didn’t have a damper rod holder, but the stanchions are quite pitted so they tore up the new threads quite quickly, I’ve done them again since but was a lot easier with the (homemade) tool. I’ll be replacing the stanchions in this rebuild so hopefully should be smooth sailing after that 😂
