THIS is how product demos should be done. KZbin is full of lessons. KZbin is full of product demos. But to do a lesson while showcasing a product... Genius!

I appreciate that your lesson is with the slide. Some of the other lessons. I've seen don't. That separates your lessons as more accurate. Your lesson is A +

It's amazing the tones you can get with a very lightly pushed clean amp, a fuzz face, and judicious use of the volume knob. Everything short of extreme metal is possible.

I wish I'd put more effort in with the slide over the years. I never could get smooth enough with it that I could stand to listen to myself . If I have a resolution this year it is to play slide blues with more dedication. This is a tricky little riff but SO effective . Billy has given us a lot of great riffs and tones and this is one of his best in my estimation. You play the hell out of this pal thanks for taking the time
@jonathanjohnson8656 Жыл бұрын
I'm by no means an expert but I have been down the rabbit hole and I wanted to offer one small piece of advice. Try getting different slides of different materials and weights. The one I like best is nothing like other people usually use. I have a few really good ones but the one I use best is a thin one made from brass ( it might be copper, I really don't know) I have a wonderful one made from heavy, thick brass and a friend who is a professional has one just like it. He gets the best tone from anyone I've heard but I can't use mine. Another friend uses glass or chrome. You really can't have too many. Good luck..

This is the closest I've ever seen to someone nailing Billy's tone. I will be looking into one of these pedals. It's just a wee bit warmer, but very close! Nice lesson. I cannot wait to get my amp out of the shop this week, and get to learning this. I also can't wait to get the Epi Les Paul paid off, so I can do a set up and practice with the proper style of guitar. Nice lesson BTW. VERY helpful!

I can count on one hand how many times Billy has ever played it in open E, but I'm pretty sure the studio version was indeed recorded in that tuning so this is legit.

@JohnShalamskas6 жыл бұрын
Even playing the same song as on the radio, Andy just blows it away. The radio compresses the living crap out of music these days. And the newer the release of a CD is, the more compressed the music becomes. That's probably the last straw that got me to start learning how to play the guitar a couple years ago. Now I wish I had started 45 years ago, it's really fun!
@curtmanners11826 жыл бұрын

The original ZZ Top recording sounds to me like it's in open E as described here, but there's footage around of The Rev. Willie G playing it in Open E and in Standard tuning. Older stuff seems to be Open but newer (e.g. Cross Roads) seems to be Standard. The Joe Bonnamassa at the Royal Albert Hall gig is in Standard tuning, and I've seen him do it live in Standard.
@Phangmaster7 жыл бұрын
It's easy to play in either, a quick look at youtube shows him playing it in open E which surprised me, but I remembered he often changes guitar just for this track.
