He's similar to a Rohan captain-style profile but he lets you add Rohan warriors to Hill Tribes and boosts them to Fight 4 which is huge with spear support, and you can then bring a banner.

For the Army Bonus in Erebor Reclaimed "To the King" does the rerolling 1's benefit iron hills warriors as well? Because in the second half of that bonus it seems that it would effect them for rerolling 1's since it just states "friendly models" and it seems that your heroes just need to have the infantry keyword in order to have this bonus work.

Thank you for this series. I may have to disagree with the throw stone special rule being the worst for the three trolls. They hit on 4+. And now that it is a throwing weapon, the trolls no longer have to stay stationary to throw it. A strength 8 stone hitting on a 4+ (5+ if they moved and didn't charge) is rather scary. Add the cavedwelling night rule, and that's +1 to wound. 12" of 3 str 8 stones hitting on a 4+/5+! Hide your heroes and your heroes' wives!

That's very true, although still not top of my list..! I actually had a game with them last night and took Campfire range, 3/3/3, strike defence and can't be trapped. Wish I'd taken 4 Attacks on the charge instead of Strike defence! Could maybe have swapped Surrounded for the Throw Stones!

I think the no-surrounded might be one of the smarter picks. Survivability is important with low models. I also tend to roll rather low, so the 4 attacks on the charge doesn't tempt me as much when I lose priority and fights all the time. Good to hear your thoughts with actual experience though.

Love those Smaug bonuses. They definitely don’t feel oppressive but they do feel like they’ll significantly mix things up for him from game to game(which I think was desperately needed). Very excited though for those February battle reports and to hear Louie and Aaron’s takes on the changes👍

It's my understanding that you could do 20 riders and 10 throwing weapons on top of that - assuming the army rules don't count riders towards the bow limit!

I’ve got very mixed feeling about the Smaug changes. Yes it’s nice to feel like you actually have a chance to put wounds on him. But at the same time, I really liked how powerful he used to feel, he is the last great dragon and I think he should feel like it. Also bummed to see he’s still terrible at objective scenarios

Fimbul also lost his bow and he always was F5 , not only on the charge Grinnah also got a buff in that his swap is now a special ruel and not a heroic action. So he can swap when ever he likes (makes him near impossible to kill) Also a small note is that Goblin Mercenarys don't have the limitation of that only Mercenary Captains can lead them anymore. So you can take a couple Mercenarys to get a few extra bodys in your Gundabad Army. Exited for the Army list rewiev video😊

I'm not sure and narzug. I feel azogs hunters is now a pure cav army now and sadly he can only be on foot. Do we take guys on foot with bows to stay with him or we just play pure cav and leave him at in a forest shooting arrows. I feel azogs hunters is a low point army for 650 or less and I just feel you being other heros before you bring nazrug. I wouldn't play this army past 650.

Really want to start a Gundabad army at some point, wish that Azog & Thorin FW kit becomes available again. I still think Azogs 3+ wounding rule should just apply to dwarves he’d still be very strong and dangerous but it would fit more in theme. I think hunter orcs took a bit hit however they’re more film accurate in the new edition. I swear Fimble went down a Fight value now only get it on the charge he was F5 base last edition

Azog is even more overcosted this edition to the point where you are taking bolg 9/10 times (Bolg is also overcosted imo). Imagine you nerfed Azog again with this, the poor guy will be a laughing stock! :D He needs to get better not worse.....

@ Well I think a lot of people already took Bolg over him to save the points, I think Bolg should’ve also gotten a slight nerf whilst Azogs wounding thing changed to just dwarves

Azog is meant to be the main evil hero of 3 films, and its at the point now where you dont even want to take him its so sad :( Im glad they are not doing this!!! They should of reworked both because at the moment they are both 2 of the worse fight 7 heros in the game and most overcosted.

@ Reworked is probably a better word I think Azogs should always be very solid and better than Bolg but I wouldn’t say changing that wounding on a 3+ rule would kill his profile just make it thematically make sense. Also he’s still F7 and S5. With the nerfs to magic and strike not being as reliable he like a lot of the big heroes will still do a lot of work! I’d rather he’d had a few more army general rules making things in the army better than the wounding all heroes on a 3+ thing. Bolg was unreal last edition unless you had loads of magic to shut him down or luckily enough to get the right shots into him and like mentioned before strike and magic aren’t as easily spammed and dangerous so he’s already better plus they’ve made it easier for him to get his buffs. Them getting F7 last edition was always a bit off especially Bolg being the same if anything Bolg should be a fight less - gets killed by Legolas as well not, sure you should be higher fight value than someone who kills you. They’ve rectified that with the Ravenhill list though

@@joshcoles1255 Agree on the idea of changing the wounding rule he has. As you say, it makes sense thematically as well Azogs is all about getting those dwarves, and with Fight 7 Strength 5 he's still wounding a lot of stuff. Agree Bolg should never have been the same fight value as Azog

Potentially, or maybe more need for a mix of smaller and bigger heroes. At the moment a lot of lists force you to a take a big hero so overall numbers will probably drop but I expect.the third book (announced by no release date) to offer a bit more variety in that sense.

I'm hoping that the book that's coming later for book related lists includes an option to do the Battle of Azanulbizar where you can mix Army of thror, iron hills and Khazud dum dwarves. But there are some really fun lists here, the assault on ravenhill and an all hero list of erebor reclaimed is probably going to be something I run. Swap out a couple of thorins company for Dain and an iron Hill captain (for master of battle) could be a lot of fun

Rip army of Thror Erebor and Dale is the way to play grim hammers now. It’s really awkward to make a Dwarf list with Girion standing in the corner with a banner so you don’t lose 4 points for showing up. Weird decision to do that but it is what it is

My build for Erebor & Dale at 600pts is Girion with18 Warriors of Dale(9 bow, Banner, 6 Spear/shield, 2 Shield) Thror , 9 Warriors of Erebor(Spear/Shield) 9 Guardians of the King. At 800 points Add in Thrain with 4 Warriors of Erebor(Shield) and 3 Grimhammers. I need to play a few games to see if it really works but it seems solid.

Army of laketown are fun to be honest Fili, kili and oin Swap places and masters banner If fili and kili and supported and oin is near by you can re roll of 3 dual rolls Followed by re roll wound rolls with dwarves and re roll 1s on laketown guard Also tauriel is a beast

While I love that Fíli and Kíli (and Bofur and Óin) became viable choices, I really don't get why Lake-town Guards went up to 7 points when all other models with comparable stats are only 5. As far as I can tell, the army was only considered top tier before because people allied in big heroes, which is not possible anymore, so why did they get so much more expensive?

@axelskovgaardteglskov8443 yeah I have no answer to the guards being so highly costed, 6 would of been enough. You do get a decent amount of shooting though, especially with tauriel. Just need to defend barriers if possible to get as much defence as possible

What do you make of the Thranduil changes? I really feel like he’s a side grade at best having lost an attack on foot. How often is he going to kill what he’s fighting, on foot at S4, to get the free heroic off? I’m not convinced at all

Interesting - I think the Elk is a massive plus now, whereas before you probably wouldn't take it. I like the removal of the auto-spells from a fun point of view and this version matches the films nicely. I'm gonna stay on the fence for competitiveness for now... He's probably not going to get loads of free Heroics against dwarves but he could smash through goblins for example... But always outnumbering himself means he'll be a fluff or two from dying all the time (which is also fun 😅)

@ I see what you mean, but still fishing for 6s kinda feels like you might need to might up quite often and then you’re not really getting the benefit of the “free” heroic combat. Losing the 4th base attack and the extras for being outnumbered is rough and he doesn’t get the benefit of himself being a banner, so he’s way more likely to lose his fights now and D6 won’t keep him around for long.

Dwalin is very sad this edition. No more three attacks with +1 to-wound. Company Nori has two special rules, but both are completely useless, because there is currently no way to disarm him, and there are no scenarios in which you pick up objective markers. Fortunately, all other dwarves in the company got buffed (except maybe Dori), as did their army bonus.

Yeah Dwalin is a bit of a sad story now..! I think Nori will become useful, assuming there is a Matched Play Guide on the way. And Dori did get a debuff but it feels right so I'm ok with that 😅

Think the big thing with Army of Thror is the all around the Grim Hammers which is a shame! I actually think it’s good though that Thror and Thrain went up in points they were very cheap for how solid they were. One of the biggest things with Thranduil now is that he’s your banner! That is fantastic and also gives that elk model a boost because the bigger base widens that +1 to wound & banner. The Glaive change is massive if you front rank get killed you can still get those 2 dice but also if you’re surrounding stuff but no supporting getting extra dice to wound could be crazy! Glad Lake town were toned down, they were a bit too good imo.

Shout out to Mithril armour which makes models immune to the Rend Brutal Power Attack, so for Thror thats D9 that STAYS D9. Nothing is blitzing him unless its got help.
