Well, the new 2024-2025 season of ''STAGIONE'' at the famous La Scala in Milan in fast approaching , and the world of opera and ballet enthusiasts is waiting for it. Am I waiting for this season - this is a very interesting question. The answer is both yes and no !!! Once upon a time , as a regular visitor to the seasons and openings of ''STAGIONE'' of this legendary theater , I absolutely loved being there and enjoying the wonderful voices I heard there - not anymore !!! Since the general directorship of La Scala was held Aleksander Pereira and Stephane Lissner , and now by Dominique Meyer, and the artistic director is Riccardo Chaill (a valued conductor , but not necessarily the artistic director of La Scala !!! ) the seasons do not impress me much !!! Yes , the repertoire is always well-selected, but not always properly staffed by soloists !!! It's no different this time !!! Already at the inauguration of the ''STAGIONE'' season (december 7) , we are preparing for a real vocal failure in in the form of the falling pseudo-star Anna Netrebko with a ruined voice as Donna Leonora in Verdi's opera ''La Forza del Destino'' ( The Power of Destinv ) !!! I cannot understand what drives Maestro Chaill to enegage Madame Netrebko in such a demanding , cantilena role after last year's total failure of this artist as Elizabeth in Verdi's ''Don Carlos''on this stage !!! Did this year's failure of Anna Netrebko in the role of ''Gioconda'' by A. Ponchielli in Salzburg , after which she received total criticizm on the internet , give Meyer and Chaill nothing to thing to thing about ????? (!!!!!!) Still , with the stubbornness of a maniac, they clung to the fallen Netrebko and her partner Yusif Eyvasov like a Velcor to a dog's tail for Kremlin and oligarchic money from Russia and destroying the reputation of La Scala !!! Is it so difficult to understand that Anna Netrebko will never be another Callas, Tebaldi ,Gencer, Milanov, Price or Caballe in the role of Donna Leonora ( in ''The Power of Destiny'' by G.Verdi !!! ) - what is happening to Maestro Chaill !!! Dear music lovers , it's time to listen carefully to the singing of your ''favorite'' artists and not mindlessly read stupid reviews about them !!! Someone had to finally write this to you, dear music lovers , and say it to your face - I'm not going to apologize to anyone for it !!! Another failure awaiting us in the ''STAGIONE'' 2024-2025 season is Marina Rebeka as V.Bellini's ''Norma''!!! This Latvian artist with an ugly vocal manner comes from St. Petersburg , in my opinion , her is not suitable for bel canto ( Rossini, Bellini , Donizetti !!! ) although he sings this repertoire successfully. What bothersme is the typical ugly , slightly Russian heaviness in her voice - this is a bad feature of voices from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and the Baltic countries !!! Her ''Norma'' by V.Bellini from Catania was average , as was the aria ''Casta Diva''on YT - it does not bode well for success at La Scala - but Sandra Radvanovsky is not the best current ''Norma'' !!! That'a all i have to say on this subject.

Anna Pirozzi una extraordinaria Leonor de Vargas de la Forza del destino, nos encantó aquí en el Liceu asombroso su dominio de la partitura, una voz fresca, elegante, de riqueza de sonidos, brava la Pirozzi. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Grandes títulos , no grandes cantantes. Aun así, una buena temporada y muchos éxitos.

I agree, Anna Pirozzi is a truly fantastic Donna Leonora in Verdi's ''La Forza del Destino'' has a very well-placed voice. She should have opened the season of ''STAGIONE'' at La Scala instead of Anna Netrebko and she should have sung ''Norme'' by V. Belliniin Milan instead of Marina Rebecca !!! Where is she (?????????) - she sings and triumphs in London and Berlin but why not in La Scala ??? (!!!!)

@@LaPrimadonna164 - Anna Pirozzi is a great singer with a rather rare ''dramatic coloratura'' voice , with excellent emission and intonation , perfect for performing bel canto parts. She is successful at the Met, Covent Garden, Vienna and Berlin but not at La Scala !!! La Scala is dominated by the money of oligarchs from Russia and Ukraine , so mainly artists from Eastern Europe sing there, such as Anna Netrebko , Aida Garifullina and Marina Rebecca !!! I have the impression that more Russians ,Ukrainians , Latvians and Lithuanians sing at La Scala than Ialians themselves !!!

Anna Netrebko - she's a vocal failure - there's nothing I can do about it - her vocal technique and voice emission are terrible , and the vibrato and forceful attacikof of sounds at the top of the scale are downright irritating - Netrebko's voice is an untrained , disjointed vocal ruin !!!

The presence of a certain Anna Netrebko at La Scala is a real failure of this theater - this lady could never sing, which she proved last year by ruining the the role of Elizabeth in Verdi's Don Carlos in Milan and recently Ponchielli's Gioconda in Salzburg - she should finally be silent instead of screaming like and old pompous cow in the pasture !!! Netrebko will never be Callas, Tebaldi, Milanov, Price or Caballe , especially in the role of Donna Leonora in the opera ''La Forza del Destino'' (The Power of Destin ) G. Verdi it is a scandal that La Scala angaged her for this cantilena rola - a real failure !!!

3 operas by Verdi?? And Rossini is not only the Barbier! C’mon, always the same story, you are not able to conceive variety and to highlight all composers’ treasures in opera history

The range of operas is relatively ok in the current climate, but the casts are not how this house used to cast these operas, even in - you would have to search the index of 'Opera' magazine to find many of these artists, even in the small roles. It's all very generic. I could be doing the singers a great disservice, but do I really want to see a Handel opera cast with a soprano who will follow this engagement with Trovatore and few of the rest of the cast would be remotely called a "Baroque specialist" despite a great conductor choice? I'll stick with his recording, thanks. There are a handful of singers in roles I would willingly pay the seat prices to hear but much of the rest is uninspiring. Not just ROH though....

I really like it when the costumes and sets are period true to the setting of the Opera. I know the music and glorious singing is the same, but I love the beauty of lavish sets and appropriate costuming.

I hope the next mayor sees the beauty in Civic Center and revitalize the area. I loved to attend symphony, opera house, and Asian Art museum. It is plagued with drugs and violence. I would love to come back to this beautiful area.

Sadly,I no longer attend opera. What once was a beautiful,and traditional experience has declined because opera houses have turned away from beauty and tradition.

Impressive season! Vienna (like Milan) giving the people the opera they expect - unlike The Met/Gelb. BTW, Ms. Netrebko is New York's loss and Vienna's gain!

I need only to to "Hansel und Gretel". The rest I am not interested in or have seen many times before. The standard here is world class with many international soloists and conductors but the repertoire is very safe. Norhing is being scheduled that is new to RO or remotely challenging, the Turnage piece being an exception. For those of us who have been going there for 40 years or more, we are starting to cast our eyes further afield for a wider variety of repertoire. In the last ten years I have been to CG twice, "Macbeth" and "Elektra": Vienna four times, Munich eight and Zurich twice. I know lockdown had a serious effect and many could argue with me but the management of the house has more than one tranche of the public to attract. I don't feel that it is doing this. I wish Jakob Hrusa every success - he has big boots to fill!

Yes there is a lot of filler here, Traviata again! Turandot again. But, there have been some new productions recently which have more than held their own, and that show intelligence in concept and execution. Klaus Guths Jenufa and Ted Huffmans Onegin were both excellent and deserve to be repeated soon, so that they don't look dated by the time they are finally revived, something that happens all too often. When something is well done it should be repeated, just not forever. There have been way too many attempts to stage Opera by directors who neither care about, nor even seem to like the material they are working with over the last decade and a half at Covent Garden. This is only my opinion of course.

@@lawrenceburness9611 it’s not the operas themselves to be presented. They are ok. What is cringeworthy is the horrible productions in which they will offer the operas. I’m so sick of the modernistic productions being done throughout the entire opera world. Does that answer your constantly offered questions?
