Let's see in summary. When you chart a route avoiding roads or asphalt, you really don't know what type of terrain you will encounter, right? Also, you are 45 years old, have done a lot of sports, and as a result, you have an injured L4-L5 vertebrae, which paralyzes you. You have to keep going, you have to change your way of enjoying life and keep taking care of your body, especially the main part of your spine. Let's go back to the topic of the gravel route. I want to ride 180 KM, including a hilly area. You mount 700C tires because, again, you don't know what you will encounter. Surprise! You cross a river, gravel terrains that are marked as if they had grooves, which generates huge vibrations and there's no way to avoid them. Then you find an uphill with loose dirt and stones that hit your bike. You stand up to reach the top, while suffering as you see an electric MTB overtaking you at full speed. I keep climbing different inclines always with gravel, and sometimes I find roads. I reach the top and start to descend a very fun terrain with rocks and steps, suitable for an MTB. My hands and wrists throb in my arms when my brain, for a moment, loses all those points you are analyzing quickly. You stand up to avoid hitting your back, but some support for the back and arms wouldn't hurt. We leave that area, and I find myself in a forest with roots on the path, and you have to maneuver quickly on the descent, dodging everything, which is very fun. (It's spring, it's still 11 am). I had to climb a slope and carry the bike. The forest ends, I start with zero-level gravel for 3 hours. Those vibrations during all that time, even if you deflate your bike, drain your energy; my back started to hurt there, but I keep going. I go through a river trail until I reach the sea and spend 2 hours on the road, something I didn't expect and don't like because it puts my life at risk due to car traffic. Why not MTB? Because I can't jump, it's too heavy to carry if I had to, and using it on the road is incongruent. I imagine using an MTB in the mountains must be very fun, and in that case, I would take the bike up with the cable car and only do descents. But I need something versatile between the MTB and the Gravel, I need to improve my physical condition with a "low-impact" sport, and above all, take maximum care of my back, as many things in my life depend on it. Doing nothing out of fear is dying slowly. (The described route is Sottomarina Mare - Colli Euganei in Veneto, Italy). I don't have the bike yet, I want to acquire it, so I would like to read comments from those who already have it. Regards.🙏

would a flat bar turn this into a good hybrid bike? I want an everyday bike that is pretty fast on the roads, but is comfortable for commuting, and also do duty on gravel trails. I had a gravel bike already, and don't really like the drop bars for commuting.

You can definitely run flat bars on the MCR 9 RDO. Most at home on gravel and light trails, it has plenty of mounting points and rack capability that would make it a fine (and adventurous) commuter.

This weighs over 2 pounds more than my xc bike. Hmmm .. too heavy to be competitive with gravel bikes in a true gravel race like unbound.. hmmm.... seems a very narrow bandwith of consumers to me.. Seems to me the more the bike industry attempts to sell the public on the versitility of a gravel bike over a wider range of "gravel" surfaces, the more they are by default disigning a mountain bike.

If I were to buy this bike purely based on the sales pitch from this video, I would go with a different bike and company. With that said, I bought this bike for a 2 week long, long-distance gravel ride, and it was the perfect bike for it. I loved the amount of travel for both the front and rear suspensions. In my opinion, this is the best endurance gravel bike in the market. The included frame bags was a great bonus also. By the end of my 2-week adventure, I was the only one not complaining about saddle fatigue in our group of guys. 😂

The bike is great, anyone who hasn't ridden it won't understand it. Yes, it is a bit heavy, but the comfort compensates for the weight loss. The rear suspension locking mechanism needs improvement, fortunately I don't need it. Greetings from Poland.

Was there a reason not to run the rear brake house through the frame like the shifting lines? Plenty of room but the lack of run kills the clean look

i have aluminum and carbon frame gravelbike. and now want to build a steel frame GB for more peace of mind and for longer bikepacking trip. BUt what bothers me is, if im going to build another bike because i want a steel bike, would it be strange if it has a carbon fork?.... if im building it with a carbon fork, should i be good to just stay with my carbon gravelbike?

I put a sus fork on my cx bike. It's changed everything. I hate the argument against these bikes not having suspension... my minivan has suspension but obviously not as much as a Jeep Wrangler. No one would say that my minivan shouldn't have suspension because it's not a Jeep.. just silly. I can not wait to get my hands on one of these!

To be honest, design-wise, looks like from a decade ago with Niner logos everywhere around the frame. Italian and American brands always take it too far. I don't know who your graphic designer is, because every self respected one wouldn't do anything with black-red-white combo. I advised a bunch of my clients to not go this obvious path, with much success and appreciation. Bike's probably an "ay-okay" bike, though aesthetically 2/10. Maybe something to work on in the future? :)

Reynolds 853 does not feel different than any other steel because the difference in elasticity of material (Young's Modulus is the technical term) between different steel alloys in negligible for this application. And the part where he talks about welding changing between "more rigid" and "stronger" is very questionable from technical standpoint mildly put. I really don't want to be a hater or shame anyone for not knowing something, but if someone is on camera stating technical details which are just wrong I feel like it's not the right way. Consulting an expert in preparation for a presentation or leaving out the technical details if you don't know something is way better.

Reynolds 853 frames have a great ride. And Reynolds can provide proof that the steel gets stronger at the joints when welded.
@harrie205
@harrie205 10 ай бұрын
You’re not getting how how higher grade steel frames work. With higher strength you could use thinner(smaller crosssectional area) tubing and a smaller cross section times the same Young’s modulus equals more elongation under riding stresses. Basically the frames become more compliant while specific modulus ist almost constant but specific strength stiffness increases(I’m neglecting the influence of geometry (tubing and frame) Higher strengths allows you to love the allowable stresses under riding further up and right on the strain elongation Diagramm without risking to exceed yield strength and plasticity deform the frame
@harrie205
@harrie205 10 ай бұрын
@@povertyspec9651mechanical(strength, elongation before breaking) properties decline at the welds. Welding is not a heat treatment and those claims from reynolds can be discarded as marketing bullshit(no one would put a weld on a critical area if it was avoidable with acceptable effort) Ps this is just a friendly information so you know better the next time and not a starter for a discussion. I’m an engineer and those are straight facts so no room for discussion. Have a nice day
