Ughhh...fine...I'll play Dragon Age Origins again.

thank you for all of this :) DAV too often felt like an after school special for elementary school kids, written by people who don't actually know Thedas all that well, and who removed player agency whenever a topic came up for which the Devs had a strong opinion. It felt like an extended, irritating lesson on how the writers (?) want the real world to behave, which to me is an inappropriate use of power, a tyranny of ideology.

5:20 Haven’t played the Veilguard and I’m only watching this because I’m curious about the backlash this game has received so I don’t have the overall context but… what? She says the coffee smells nice and is overall trying to be a people pleaser. She taste the thing and that facade is breaking. Why are you saying it’s an obvious character inconstancy when it’s just kind of obvious what it is? Same remark for the scout thing. A profession doesn’t dictate your personality. You can be something like a soldier and be socially awkward or arrogant or whatever. The moment you do something, it doesn’t overwrite your entire personality. Very confused by that point as it is presented like that. Maybe what you’re saying makes more sense if you played the game but what is shown in the video doesn’t support your argument that much.

Not all games will hit right, which is the way of storytelling. Kingdom Come Deliverance is wonderful game, needing to be diligent to build yourself up. Learning to read in a game was very surreal. It’ll be fun to live in that world again.

Understandable. I love your style in your videoes and your way of analysing and I am looking forward to what you come up with next. It doesn't matter to me that the Veilgaard was not good at storytelling, because, as you said, there are lots of other games and good stories out there and you are good at storytelling :) You probably have lots of ideas and things you want to do. May I make a suggestion? BG3, analysing what happened to the cleric in the arcane tower in the underdark. I would love that in your style of video. If not, looking forward to the next one :)

I honestly went through a grieving process after finishing DAV. Thinking about it makes me genuinely sad. Dragon Age was, like for many of us, a huge part of my life. Surprisingly I found support on Reddit, it really helped airing out my feelings with people who feel the same. It’s been helpful for me to move on. But the more removed I am, the angrier I get at the absolute waste of potential. I am now going back and playing Bioware games I haven’t played, like Mass Effect. It’s been really enjoyable.

Varric is my favourite character in the whole series and without spoilers: they didn't do him justice in DAV and I will just ignore that.

The witcher 4 being on unreal after they poured so much resources in the variant or RED engine for Cyberpunk is a bit downgrade for me. Everything is on unreal and it looks all very similar in style. Seems more like alot of devs left and they needed the newbies to get familiar with the engine fast. Lets hope that CDProject red doesn´t dissapoint with the new entry as the creative director of the W3 is long gone with a new studio on his own working on a dark fantasy. As for Veilguard, no amount of mods can fix that. I can only hope that the former devs from Bioware working on Exodus will also make a dark fantasy to replace what was lost with this abomination of a game.

I beat the game, it took 86 hours on normal difficulty and it felt like wasted time. I absolutely hated this game. A dragon age game has never disappointed me more, including DA:2. I think that is because the older entries weren't afraid to be what they are, medieval inspired dark fantasy. Just the opening scene of DA:O with the army of dark spawn and the blood everywhere, despite the aged graphics, feels 200x better than veilguard. Also, I respect your decision to skip avowed, I am skipping it as well.

I think it’s clear this is the death knell for dragon age, I’m not even finished my play through and I’ve put 76 hours in so I feel comfortable criticising it. It’s really saddening given I spent my teen years playing the first three instalments and loving it. BioWare pulled a “mysterious Illuminati group from across the sea” to re-set the franchise but it’s truely lost now. I can’t see a 5th game even being greenlit and if it even does I can’t support it in good conscience, out of respect for the original creators, and myself.

Full support, will watch. I just realized that I have never finished Witcher 3, I stopped some 10-15 hours before the end. Same with BG3 - I am on the first steps of the final battle, past the final merchant stop, and I stopped there, because.... I think I simply don't want these games to end.

I have a friend who does the same with BG3. She also starts a new campaign every time something bad happens with Scratch or the plot goes into a villain path ✨

I think Avowed is going to be cool. I ain't gonna hold some over-enthusiastic game dev responsible for some tweets. I do think devs need to stop interacting with certain types of conversations though. In this age, you can't just go against the public zeitgeist and expect success. You gotta let the game speak for itself and not try to hammer certain messages in as much as you'd expect. Most of the people who disagree with you these days think they already possess a moral rightness that's for whatever reason inherent to their personality. But from what I can tell this game world is supposed to have a darker tone to it, so for me that is what the issue should be about. I just found your channel a few days ago and it saddens me that you won't be covering Avowed because I know nothing about that game world. Plus the way you discussed Dragon age was such a breath of fresh air. The other games you mentioned I'm not that interested in or I haven't played them. The Witcher just never called to me, but I just haven't played it yet. I keep wanting to dive into the world and check it out. Maybe, I will! AAnyway I look forward to checking out more of your content as it comes out.

Ah, overreactions. Been there, done that. Like when I decided to throw away all my Saints Row games when SR Reboot turned out such a woke mess. And here I am today, still happily replaying Sants Row 2. All game franchises have plenty stinkers, Zelda for example. We should not let these stinkers kill our love for the franchise in general.

The part that says that it seems like a teraphy session is EXCTALY what i think about the dialog in this game. Everyone over shares and over explain like its the player job to acess the feelings of the characters, but it is all so unnatural and stiff

The longer I sat thinking of the events of Veilguard after my completion, the more numb I became. I’ve closed the book on Dragon Age and I don’t see interest returning to anything BioWare in a long time. Instead I’ve taken a dive into the Owlcat games (warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader, and Pathfinder series). If you haven’t played them, they are very story rich, lots of lore, and are true RPGs if you are needing to scratch that role play itch after leaving the black hole of mediocrity Veilguard left behind.

I'm glad you're moving on Goose. I didn't even bother getting Veilguard. I really, deeep down wanted to give it a chance but I couldn't. You should also keep an eye on Exodus. The people who are making that are senior ex-Bioware devs and for all intents and purposes that is where the real Bioware is now.

Great vid. My only disagreement is about Taash, to put it simply... to me Taash sounds like budget Karlach. It's impossible for me to have experienced Karlach and take Taarch seriously. Taash just sounds like a submachine gun shooting out of place jokes imo. But other than that, I agree with all your points.

I am really happy you are moving on. Audience know and will stick around when content creators are creating something out of pure joy and excitement. I will be there when you talk about KCD2. I know this game will be phenomenonal. I am more cautious with Witcher 4. I wonder if you want to check out indie games like Stray Gods? It is very short game that can be done by 6 hours, written by David Gaider and it has amazing dream VA cast.
@ImpGooseКүн бұрын
One day when I'm a full time KZbinr it will happen. Now, I simply don't have enough resources to quit my job and spend all hours with games. I really want though. That's why I'm trying to stay consistent and true to the values of storytelling in RPGs. Hopefully, it will happen in 2025 because the channel grows little by little 🔥🤟🏻
@bananakaya19 сағат бұрын
@@ImpGoose I know you have a full time job and not a full-time KZbinr, which is why I suggested Stray Gods for that reason as it can be quickly finished in 6 hours. It is a RPG that focus most on storytelling(way more than the Veilguard ever is). Then again, it's just a suggestion.

The thing is, if the writing was good, I could easily overlook my disappointment with the overall game. I play games like Dragon Age for the story, not for the graphics, gameplay mechanics, or combat. I want to be immersed in a story… and that is the worst part of Veilguard. I have seen fanfic written by high school students that are better written than Veilguard. 😬

Nothing but respect for you for being able to recognize the reality of what’s in front of you and adapting. A channel like Jackdaw which was excellent for DA lore exposition and exploration now is resorting to absurd levels of “copium” just to stay wed to a franchise that’s been tanked.

I feel sad that you are leaving the Thedas discussion after the Veilguard controversy, your analysis were always great but on the other hand most of the misteries from that setting got resolved in a somewhat underhanded manner so I understand there won't be much left to talk about that isn't Qunari and Executors. I wish you the best Important Goose on your new game journeys, as for me I realised I grew older and the years of gaming lost much of their former glory to me. I am thinking of reading more books and possibly writing one, you seem to know a lot about story mechanics, character building and writing tips would you please give me some recommendations on how to learn about those character archetypes, what are those six kinds of story that you said repeat in different fashion every time and all other cool stuff a wanna be writer could learn?
@ImpGooseКүн бұрын
Oh, that's great news! I'm very happy that you decided to explore this path 🥳 I'm not an expert by all means, and what helped me a lot was understanding of trauma for every life story (fictional or not). For some people, you are a hero, for others you are a villain. This state is inseparable and exists simultaneously. Thus, give yourself permission to write and observe others without judgement while being ready to get brutally judged especially by people closest to you. Surprisingly, it was my husband and his father and not my blood relatives who read my first draft without any judgement, mocking, or laughter. The only reaction my father-in-law gave was, "I couldn't put it down, so I didn't sleep tonight." It was very touching and insane to be true 😭 So, if you are serious about writing, try to find people who will support your journey. It's a time consuming hobby, after all haha. Try to understand what you like about writing. Maybe it will be an irony of life, romance, folklore, or science. Discover your style. Many writers start hearing their characters instead of seeing them through imagination. Others don't have anything like that at all and just plan the whole story till the end, therefore becoming a god in a newly made universe. When it comes to techniques and rules of creative writing...you will find everything you need via KZbin and Google, my friend. You can study craft but writing a moving story is about being brave to expose the deepest layers of your soul, turn it inside out, and then use your experience to create a new world. Good luck 🍀

Understandable decision, it isn't healthy to continue to put time, effort and energy into Dragon Age and its new direction. It's much more healthy to use that precious time to explore worlds and games that align with what you enjoy in a role playing game. It can often be overlooked how much of an impact things like games, stories and pursuit of intersting lore/knowledge has on the attitude and outlook we have on day to day life! Sometimes it can be hard to step away from the routine or loyalty to one thing, but once the passion and respect for it has gone and you've lost trust in the creators of that experience (whether its a game franchise, TV show, movie, book, comic etc) then it's better to move on before it affects your passion and enthusiam towards seeking things that leave a positive mark on you.

I don't mind developers putting political or personal views into their games, but it should ALWAYS be within framework of the setting. Loss of authenticity is why so many modern movies or games are failing.

i strongly recommend owlcat's pathfinder wrath of the righteous. its simply put a narrative masterpiece. its a bit harder to get into if you havent play any games that were based on 3.5e dnd in the past, like neverwinter nights, kotor series... but there is a helpful community and alot of guides, as well as very flexiable modular difficulty options. i hope you check it out. similarly, though older may be but most definently gold; knights of the old republic 2: sith lords and neverwinter nights 2: mask of the betrayer are my must play recommendations for any rpg lovers.

While I enjoyed Veilguard, and on my second playthrough, Witcher is a great replacement. What helps me enjoy Veilguard though is a few of its companions remind me of Witcher characters. Emmrich is 100% Regis, same man, different font. Neve gives off strong Yen vibes, Lucanis actually reminds me of Geralt and I designed, as I usally do cuz my obsession is literally Witcher outside of Dragon Age, my Rook to look similar to Ciri cuz the game finally let me give my character ashen hair with a scar on her face XD Also, the addition of fast and heavy attacks makes the combat feel more like Witcher 3's.
