I don't know the context really, but I feel the "I have asthma" girl. My gym teacher used to make me keep running even though I was having asthma attacks and would collapse, black out. She also refused to let me have my inhaler on me (despite my doctors note and letter from my dad), saying that if I "really needed it" I could just "run and go get it". I don't know how she didn't get fired.

So your parents never complained? What did your principal say?
@ArthurGrey. Жыл бұрын
@@tabora_ TLDR at the bottom. As far as I remember, the principal never got involved aside from talking to my dad one time. The teacher never got in any trouble for it as far as I'm aware, and I believe she still works there. School district never did anything to protect us though lmao, so I'm not surprised. Some more info for those wondering, I had this same gym teacher for 2.5 years and she was always terrible to me. She would straight up pick on me and call me fat and lazy for not participating some days, and would loudly say to the class that I wasn't getting points those days because I was a failure. I didn't participate at times because of asthma and often not feeling well at all, along with having constant pain. She knew this but didn't care, just painted me as lazy. As time went on it just got worse, so I would sit out more and more. The next year I was diagnosed with a heart issue and an autoimmune disease which greatly affects my joints and muscles. It's more than likely I was born with both, but they were getting worse over time which is still the case, unfortunately. Anyway, it stopped after I did the mile in the fall of my second year of highschool. She was always the absolute worst to me when it came to the mile and insisted every time that I run the entire thing. Which, of course, never happened. It was 80 something degrees farenheit this time and as usual she refused to let me drink any water, wouldn't let me have my inhaler, and kept screaming at me to keep running. Any time I stopped or slowed to a jog or less she was hounding me. I didn't want to black out again so I stopped and texted my mom - she was out of town and couldn't come or call. Texted my dad and he showed up in record time (he was 15 minutes away, showed up in 7) with one of my spare inhalers, water, a Gatorade, and was seething. My gym teacher was yelling at me the entire time my dad was there, even rolling her eyes every time I had to take a puff of my inhaler. Needless to say she gave 0 fucks. After my dad and I knew I was okay and I refused to go home early, we decided I should just walk the rest of the mile and ignore my teacher. He tore my teacher a new one at the end of the school day and filed a complaint after also going off on the principal. My gym teacher spent the rest of our time together giving me dirty looks and holding her tongue before my dad made them switch me to one of the other teachers. My new gym teacher was amazing, he'd check in on me often regarding my health and even apologised for my old teacher's behaviour. I switched again the next year (not my choice, just how my schedule was) and he was great too. Both male teachers always let me have my inhaler on me (you know, as they should) and never had anything bad to say if I had to rest in the middle of class or when I was too unwell to participate. Thankfully heart medication helped a ton and I was able to be pretty active again, just had to be careful. If I had to stay with my first gym teacher for all of high school I genuinely think I would have dropped out, she was horrendous. Her and my Earth Science teacher my freshman year were insufferable. TLDR: Texted my dad mid asthma attack during the mile, he showed up with a spare inhaler while my teacher yelled at me. My dad lost his shit on my teacher and principal until I was given a different gym teacher.

Did you see the dutch parents on this show? 'We start out trusting you but if you break that trust there are concequences.' Is such a good parenting technique. It teaches accountability and doesn't completely take away the teenager's freedom just because they're teenagers. I would know because I grew up on this mutual trust and respect principle. There were times when I disappointed my mom but overal I came out very well. Even though I went to many parties I never smoked or had drinks. I did well in school, especially because my mom did not push big expectations onto me. Did I mention I was raised by a single parent? Teenagers need a gentle but firm hand. None of the yelling and commandeering in most of the World's strictest parents I see. I really liked the horse guy, he was very open with the teens and seemed to genuinely care about them. I'm thinking the majority of the kids on this show relapsed because they were just pushed to the brink so they folded. Notice how none of their parents receive any teaching?
@666_cthulhu Жыл бұрын
that’s exactly how my parents were when i was a kid. a lot of people have a really negative attitude towards children & teenagers but i feel like we should take a more ‘innocent until proven guilty’ sort of approach
@rainbowkitty5655 Жыл бұрын
Exactly. The yelling will just teach kids that their parents aren't safe to go to when needed. Most of the time, you wouldn't talk to another adult like that, you would have a conversation with them and sort out the issue, so why not do the same for kids. Teach them how to solve issues with others in a peaceful way
@Gloriousturtlechan Жыл бұрын
@@666_cthulhu Right? What are you really telling your kids when you distrust them from the start? It means they can make no mistakes, which teenagers will eventually do, and feel comfortable telling you about it. It just encourages kids to be more secretive which is so dangerous in a period of time where they are starting to explore some more risky stuff in life. You know those parents who pride themselves on being extremely strict and how their kids always listen? Well their kids just got better at doing shit behind their backs... Of course no parenting technique is perfect, it's all in the individual, but starting out negatively puts a relationship on a bad start to begin with.

Sad cos most of these kids with behavioral problems probably didn't receive the nurturing, love and care they needed when they were kids and the parents just traumatise them further sending them to these “strict” (more like abusive) parents. There's a difference between setting boundaries and rules and straight up abuse. You need to find a balance for letting your kids LIVE, that's how they learn, and setting up rules... It's your fucking job as a parent, you shouldn't have to send em to strangers. Same as the ‘Beyond Scared Straight’ bullshit.
