Akainu being hated goes to show how good of a villain he is. He is not a villain either because he his fighting for the system as the lesser of two evils the Marines or The Pirates. He chose to fight for the Marines.

In my opinion Akainu is right now the second strongest character in the story maybe the third strongest, but Im more leaning towards second strongest. Imu has likely that crazy Joyboy haki as well, which I dont see anyone else then Luffy and maaaaybe Blackbeard achieve, but behind Imu in my opinion he is the second strongest, and yes I think he is stronger than Shanks and Mihawk, the one character I could see on his lvl is Dragon, tho we still know nothing about his fighting capabillities even less than with Imu, and Im slightly more towards Akainu leaning also cuz of the L's Dragon took against the Blackbeard pirates. And Blackbeard will likely surpass Akainu in my opinion, tho I think he is not there yet, thats just my assumption of where Akainu stands rn.

Those Villians r respected because they had screen time. Unlike Akainu who we saw that then he gets less screen time then shanks after that, scratch that less screen time then old Sengoku. He isn’t respected like the others because the others we had more encounters with. U can’t tell us to like him when he only had screen time to kill luffys brother then never shown again. There is no character build so no one feels sympathy for him or anything like that. Pain had his entire backstory, frieza had screen time to do things people that people would like, the other antagonists like Kaido aren’t hated they r respected for their strength as Kaido is responsible for making Luffy stronger than Akainu Ever Did, Doffy is respected because we understand how he took that path because once again HE HAD A BACKSTORY, Kuma wasn’t liked and then he HAD A BACKSTORY and now everyone has tears for him. U trying to single him out and put him above antagonists who had a backstory so that the viewer can see where they r coming from and CHOOSE FOR THEMSELVES. If u love him great but u cant saw we r wrong when he has no character development outside of what he’s done at Marineford. Literally EVERY Admiral aside from Greenbull and him are loved for one reason or another whether for their actions or for how they were introduced. Akainu killed his own men ontop of the pirates. He’s not a loving character he’s someone of strength and a ruthless enforcer of it and his ideology. U can’t tell us to feel for a character who has no feeling meaning we don’t know why he’s doing this. Did u feel for Belem when he got punched No, u did when he got back in Dressrossa because he had development, Did u feel for Aokiji when Marco knocked him away no, when u found out more about him from Robin u did, did u feel for Blackbeard when he captured ace no, when he was put as a sophisticated villain and a mastermind u did and u seen his backstory, did u feel for buggy when he was gonna blow up the town no, when we seen his true power at Marineford we did. Did u feel for ENERU when he wiped out the strawhats. No, when or if u read the cover story u did because u got more in-depth with his character. Akainu had none of that he had no character development no backstory nothing. So until then he isn’t loved like other villains who Had that. Hell even Big Mom had a Backstory. If a villain has no backstory no reason why like pain did they don’t get no sympathy from the viewer. Now if u like him because u know its a reason to all this fine but thats u, most people don’t like someone who only had don’t terrible things to not their enemies but their allies as well, to stack on top of it hes the reason Robin was suffering, Aokiji is loved because he helped Robin. People who Love Robin and Most do, Don’t like Akainu for his past being a reason as he destroyed the ship and the island sending Robin into the horrible backstory she had to face at 9 years old. We seen her backstory multiple times and it doesn’t EVER make us think, oh maybe Akainu is in the right about this. We seen him kill ace after everything luffy went through to rescue him and we don’t think maybe he should win and kill luffy too, or when he was gonna kill Coby who most people love for many reasons and be like oh maybe he should’ve been able to kill him. We love shanks more because he stopped it. We love Marco because he stopped him, Akainu has done NOTHING to get on the viewers good graces let alone tug at their heartstrings to feel bad for him like they did with Kuma. When Oda does that’s a different story but u can’t make that claim when he has down NOTHING to counteract the terrible things we seen him do. This goes for most people who watched the entire show/ read the manga, he is the villain and until he’s shown in a different light by Oda and not against characters we’ve grown to love then until then people will respect his power because he did beat Kuzan however they won’t feel sympathy for him. Like if Oda wrote he died in a terrible way we would cry because he built no sympathy for the character yet… keyword, Yet. Oda story is still going. U wouldn’t tell people the HAVE to love Kuma before his backstory came out because u didn’t care about him either way. He was a robot with no mind now till we found out he was still fighting even after he was forced to become a lab rat experiment for the worlds government to save his Daughter from her illness. Akainu has none of that yet. He tried to kill Robin, Luffy he killed Ace, and even his own people. After that he hasn’t had no screen time. Not even him vs Kuzan to make us like him for his power like we do for Kaido, until he shows us power that’s unimaginable or a backstory to make us feel for him we won’t.

Akainu hate on the power-scaling side being egregious is not crazy to say, but saying all the hate needs to stop for a character than brutally murdered Luffy’s brother, and was part of the reason Robin’s life was a living hell(they blamed the ships getting sunk on her), is overdoing it. He is hated justifiably, for Robin and for Ace. Did we forget he also kills innocent marines just for “failing to do their job right”!? I think a vital point you missed out is that unlike Frieza and Pain, both of which were written as villains, Akainu is supposed to be a Marine, the "good" of the series. But Akainu still goes out of his way to kill regular marines, an island full of non-pirates. Akainu is objectively hateable.
