Looking so damn good. Dahlias are not doing so well in NZ this summer. Lots of passion hoppers and moths rolling in New growth. I'd recommend irrigation asap....less mildew and plant disease. The moonwalker dwarf sunflower might be easier to grow and sell. Love the zinnias....great colours. Good to see you culling plants that don't last in a vase....like California poppies and sweet peas. Congrats on receiving a scholarship and regular sales. Brilliant work!!!!😊 That first dahlia of the season is called "fancy pants"....waiting for mine to flower. Cheers, Jo.

Flower farm looking good ❤. I sell $20 or $35 bouquet options. So I'm with you on the cheaper price. Definitely found affordable $20 sells a lot more which means more income and less waste than expensive ones.

Thanks again Amber. Straw or cane mulch (as we use in northern NSW) has so many benefits - moisture retention, weed control and when it rots down it feeds the soil increasing the fertility. I mulch my whole garden in Spring (only on half an acre) weeds are annoying as they take nutrients from the soil to grow which should be there for the plants. Now that you have straw on your beds it will be way easier to keep the weeds down and replenishing it in 6-12 months will also be easier. Good luck with the extra market.
@bloomsonthehill620712 күн бұрын
Yes hopefully it all works well. I have definitely noticed better moisture retention

As a country girl, your videos feel like dropping around to the neighbours for a coffee and the inevitable 'nip down the paddock' because land-owners never sit still for long! It's so nice to have seasonal content for the Australian climate.

adit: i've never made a youtube video in my life, but i often find myself going back trying to find a video where someone mentioned something interesting about eg. pinching dahlias... but then i can't find it. Is it practical / useful for people to add keywords like that for us to go back and find later?

The impatient gardener has some great tools. Erin has done a video about them. Most are Dutch or American made and pricey but worth a look. Jo.

Hi Amber, Weed mat ain't good as it kills the good bacteria and worms in the soil. Soil needs light to live. Also, you might find the dwarf lemon sunflower "moonwalker" as great addition to your flower garden. The biggies are just too much and take over any bouquet and cutting them down is a mission when they've done. Chocolate cosmos is an easy, hardy cosmos. Comes back like scabiosa. Dahlias look great😊

Always lots of weeds and in my little patch, loads of tea trees and baby gums. Your farm is looking great. Are you noticing hundreds of ladybugs in the flowers, mine are full of them. 💐🐞💐🐞💐

Thanks for the video....Lovely to see flowers and sunshine....The only gardening I will be doing here in Scotland is a foraged Christmas Wreath...😅
@bloomsonthehill620720 күн бұрын
You’re welcome Susan. But you might have a white Christmas!!! I’ve never had one of those! It must be magical in Scotland at Christmas. A summer Christmas is a bit understated, although you can play backyard cricket and go swimming!
@dal893921 күн бұрын
The big plus of using a Dutch hoe is the weed roots are left in the ground which is great for soil structure and therefore fertility.
@bloomsonthehill620720 күн бұрын
Ah brilliant! Never thought of that.

Oh come on 4 more subs 🤞 Amber. Lovely of the kids to help with weeding. Summer is definitely a busy time. I put straw on my peonies and the squirrels and birds scatter it everywhere 🤦♀️. Have a great day, Ali 🥶🌞🇨🇦

You're so brave to do wedding flowers, I'm so not ready to do a wedding yet😂 I recently got a text from a couple saying "we're popping down next weekend for flowers for our wedding, do you think you'll have any?!" This was during the 'drought' after spring flowers are gone and before the summer things. 🤪

All of these extras need to be listed and charged for, unless they want droopy flowers. Maybe as a particular column on your quote, you could write reasons for extra costs like whether the wedding is outside or inside. Maybe getting more information about the environment, so you can let them know ahead. Also weather wise, you can approach them with the forecast, ask if they have refrigeration at the wedding, and would you be able to use it for the main bouquets...otherwise tell them you will need to use your own car air con and gas to maintain their freshness...something like that. Just a few ideas....otherwise they might be questioning you post wedding and who really wants that.😊 Hope this helps, Jo. People that have overcharged me without any reason aren't called back. A couple of landscapers were trying to rip me off, but I kept the original quote agreed on and took down the hours they worked and petrol...etc They had zero comeback and we just went in circles as I had read out all inclusive costs like petrol and distance travelled. Best to be honest and upfront.

Very pretty and I hope the weather held out. My daughter had her wedding overseas on an island and at high peak pricing. She was assured the weather was good in that month but of course if wasn't. She became the bride from hell and later a teary mess but I told her that bad weather was a sign of good luck. then as she made her entrance with her husband she got caught up on part of the tent and was drowned with the collected rain water. She totally lost it and threw the plate she was holding across the room. I said to my husband yay a Greek wedding. So her planned outdoor wedding by the sea became an indoor wedding, her collection of blue vases that she took over in her luggage, finally stayed upright. She had a wedding planner who stupidly allowed her beautiful flowers be thrown out and weren't taken to their room that was just meters away. My daughter and son in law are happy and now have 4 lovely kids but living in Cairns since last feb.😥

Love what you put together. Thanks for showing us the farm❤. Looking at those rose thorns... I've got into the habit of using two fingers and quickly pulling the thorns to the side to snap off. Dont even ask why 🤪, but it's fast and gets the whole thorns out. Thankfully no pricks yet 😊

Amber, you can pull off the outer open petals of the roses to make them look smaller. Putting them in a dark cool room is definitely the right thing to do.
