Just found your channel and immediately subscribed. I'm a retired Marine who owns a 40 acre farm in WV which is pitch black at night. I do not hunt. My concern is more about 2 legged predators than the 4 legged varieties breaching my property. Because I'm on a fixed budget I was considering the AGM 256 clip on thermal, now I'm not so sure. I need to identify and eliminate threats out to at least 300 yards. My Son has PVS-30 NVG's and IR that illuminate everything but I can't afford those. What you recommend as a viable solution, NV or Thermal?

That’s pretty standard for the competition. The Thermion XL60 is about 7 hours and the Infiray RH50R is about 5.5hrs and it’s been the #1 selling scope in this price range for a year. Sure doesn’t sound bad to us.

I dont understand how an occular zoom doesnt pixelate the image. You are zooming in on pixels.
@feelsgooddoit3 күн бұрын
Also you could video it with a shot cam
@TheLateNightVisionShow3 күн бұрын
A 640x512 sensor has 327,000 pixels. So When you double the base mag with digital zoom you cut that in half to about 164,000 pixels. A 2560x2560 display has 6,553,000 pixels. Thats 20x more pixels to zoom in on than the sensor. So yes it pixelates a little but nothing like digital zoom. Hope that helps.

@@TheLateNightVisionShow I think this is wrong but I’m hoping you correct me if I’m wrong. If you go from 3x to 6x on a 640x512 scope it wouldn’t cut it in half, it would quarter it. It would go to a 320x256 which is 81,920. Not 164,000 pixels like you said

@TheLateNightVisionShow8 күн бұрын
With a good IR light the effective range is as far as you can safely/accurately shoot. With a good Sniper Hog Light you can easily see and ID at 450-500 yards but we don’t generally suggest shooting that far at night.

The truth is the image quality on all thermals at max digital zoom is bad. Period. On the XP60 it’s going to look great at the base of 3x, decent at 6x, grainy and bad at 12x and horrible and virtually unusable at 24x. Insert any other name brand and model and the digital zoom progression will be the same. You want to be using your base mag and/or one step up the vast majority of the time. If you aren’t then you need a higher base mag scope. I hope that helps! Thanks for watching
@5dc6110 күн бұрын
The big screen size is a serious upgrade, the main upgrade I’ve been waiting for. Hopefully all the 640 scopes from all the manufacturers go this route moving forward. But now iRay introduced the lens integrated LRF and it made the rest look like crap with the LRF block sticking out. Right now, the ACE is looking like the all around best bang for my buck.
@andrewedington728310 күн бұрын
Curious how this scope compares in image quality versus the Thermion 2 LRF XG50 3-24x, which I currently have. Does the XP60 pixelate faster at higher magnification with the 17 micron sensor? As a coyote hunter, I like the 3x base and always have PIP on 12x or 24x.
